I would like to thank the Officers and Committee for their kind invitation to judge, and my steward, Mr Bob Potts, whose efficiency and support ensured the day ran so smoothly.

Most importantly, I would like to thank the exhibitors for giving me the privilege of judging such a lovely quality entry. Although the overall entry was 34, with 32 exhibits, this was a good turnout for a show so far north, and the quality more than compensated for the numbers. While not the largest entry, it was certainly an entry of considerable merit, and I felt honoured to assess such a worthy group of dogs.

Overall, I found the standard throughout to be very pleasing, with many quality exhibits making for an enjoyable and rewarding day of judging.

Class SBD (1 Entries) 

1st: McAlpine – Divinity On The Rocks

Orange sable, 17 months old. A most attractive dog of pleasing size and balance, with fine bone and a pleasing head complemented by a nice expression. Moved well with a brisk, sound action and was shown in good coat and excellent condition. Presented to a high standard throughout. Pleased to award him Best Special Beginners Dog and Best Special Beginners in Breed.

Class VD (1 Entries) 

1st: Slough – Special Edition Of Persimoone JW VW (IMP UKR) 

Orange, 8½ years old. A masculine dog throughout, but certainly not overdone. Short-backed with a good short neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, he has excellent bone and substance, together with strong hindquarters. A very balanced and sound exhibit, he moved with a brisk, positive action. Presented in excellent condition. In the challenge for Best Veteran, he did not quite give his all on the move and had to concede on this occasion. Pleased to award him Best Veteran Dog. 

Class MPD (1 Entries) 

1st: French & Burnett – Bincombefarm The Hippogrif 

Orange sable, 7 months old. A lovely youngster with a masculine head, medium-sized, slightly oval dark eyes, and a sweet expression. Well coated and of compact construction, with correct ear placement and a high-set tail. Moved and showed well throughout and was presented in excellent condition. Stood alone in the class but was a very worthy winner, going on to take Best Dog Puppy.

Class JD (4 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: French – Norvanik Shout Out At Bincombefarm 

Orange sable, 14 months old. A small, compact youngster with a short neck well set into good shoulders and fine bone. I liked his masculine head, eye and expression, with small well-placed ears. A bright showman who moved nicely, carrying himself well, with a good compact outline and a coat of correct texture. Presented in excellent condition. A very promising youngster with an exciting future ahead.

2nd: Ogilvie – Yoshe Best Buddy  

Orange sable, 15 months old. Another attractive dog with a coat of the correct texture. He has a pleasing head and eye, a short neck, compact body and correct ear carriage. Showed and moved well with a brisk, positive action, displaying lovely breed type. Good rib, legs and feet, and he gave a very good account of himself. Presented, as always from this exhibitor, to an excellent standard.

3rd: McAlpine – Divinity On The Rocks    

Class LD (2 Entries)  

1st: Boyes – Poshdonpoms Touch Of Class JW 

Orange sable, 2 years old. A dog who stood out for his quality and excellent breed type. Such a lovely dog to go over, with a good brisk movement and plenty of style. He has a lovely coat of correct texture and was presented in excellent condition. Short neck, well-sprung ribs and a short, compact body all contributed to his very attractive overall picture. Presented in immaculate condition. Pleased to award him the Reserve Dog CC. A very close decision, and I am sure these two will change places many times in the future.

2nd: Slough – Lilrosa’s Ride Of Your Life  

Cream, 3 years old. Another attractive dog with a coat of the correct texture. He has a pleasing head and eye, compact body and correct ear carriage. Showed well and was presented in excellent condition. Unfortunately, he was not moving quite as well as the winner on the day, but remains a quality exhibit.

Class OD (4 Entries) 

1st: Smith – Ch Sueacres Catch A Dream JW  

Orange sable, 2 years old. My star of the day, a dog who absolutely stood out for his outstanding quality and breed type. Teeming with quality and a true showman, he is short-backed with a high-set tail, a pleasing head, small well-set ears, and excellent facial features, giving the desired breed expression. He handled beautifully and, although slightly out of coat, what coat he had was of harsh, correct texture. His immaculate presentation left nothing to hide and allowed his excellent outline to be fully appreciated. Standing four-square, he presented an impressive overall picture, carrying himself with confidence and style. He moved soundly and effortlessly around the ring, demanding my attention from the moment he entered. A truly worthy winner, and I was delighted to award him the Dog CC and Best of Breed. I was later informed that it was his 15th CC.

2nd: Boyes – Poshdonpoms Shooting Stars  

Orange sable, 2 years old. Another attractive dog of nice size, well put together and displaying plenty of good breed type. He carried a harsh, of the correct texture and had a pleasing head with a good eye. Nice short neck flowing into a compact body, with a high-set tail and the desired shortness of back, giving him an attractive overall outline. Unfortunately, he just lost out on his front movement today, but he is a quality dog nonetheless. Presented in good condition throughout.

1st: McAlpine – Altina Wouldn’t It Be Lovely   

Orange, 2 years old, most attractive size and balance, fine bone, small feminine and dainty, pretty head, small ears, alert and outgoing, moved soundly, presented in lovely condition. Best Special Beginners Bitch. 

Class VB (2 Entries) Abs: 1 

1st: Ritchie – Abbeyleigh Pixie Magic In Hollibell 

Black, 8 years old. A most attractive bitch of excellent type and quality. Very feminine head with small ears, well balanced throughout and carrying a coat of correct texture. She moved and showed to great effect, presented in excellent condition. Still so sound, with a lovely brisk movement that gave her the edge on the day. Delighted to award her Best Veteran Bitch and Best Veteran in Breed.

Class MPB (3 Entries) Abs: 1 

1st: Van De Burgt & Strange – Norvanik Got Me Tipsy 

Orange sable, 8 months old. A quality youngster with a lovely head and feminine expression. She showed herself very well for one so young, with a good scissor bite, short neck, good legs and feet, and a coat of pleasing quality. Moved soundly and showed with style and confidence. I hope she has finished her growing, as she presents a very promising picture. Presented in lovely condition.

2nd: Cawthera-Purdy – Lireva’s Going To The Ball  

Orange sable, 6½ months old. Another nice Minor Puppy, slightly finer in head but with excellent pigmentation. Not quite as mature as the winner today, but she has plenty of time to develop in body and substance. She has lovely breed type, moved soundly and was shown in good condition. A promising youngster with plenty to look forward to.

Class PB (2 Entries) 

1st: Carrigan – Energy Surge Crystal Edition At Carripom (IMP UKR)  

Orange sable, 9 months old. A superb quality young lady with a lovely ultra-feminine head, well-placed ears and nice dark slightly oval-shaped eyes, with excellent pigmentation and mouth. Short and compact in body, she was in good coat for her age, with the correct texture. Moved freely around the ring on neat, cat-like feet and showed with confidence and style. A very promising youngster enjoying a successful start to her career. I was thrilled to award her Best Bitch Puppy and Best Puppy in Breed.

2nd: Black – Klassna One In A Million Mit Zaandam 

Orange sable, 11 months old. A pleasing head with tiny ears, good eyes and a lovely expression. Short and compact in body, with good rib and a correct mouth. Moved confidently around the ring and was shown in good coat. She just needs to tighten slightly in front, but was presented in excellent condition throughout.

Class JB (4 Entries) Abs: 3 

1st: Van De Burgt & Strange – Gillipom Northern Lites At Norvanik   

Orange sable, 14 months old. An outstanding quality youngster, presented in immaculate coat and condition. Dual purpose girl, She entered the ring with great presence, displaying excellent size and maturity for her age. Ultra-feminine throughout, with a lovely head, good eyes, well-set ears and a pleasing muzzle. Fine-boned with neat, small feet, she carried herself confidently with a high-set tail well over her back. A delight to examine on the table, she possessed a quality double coat with the correct soft undercoat and harsh outer coat texture. Outgoing, stylish and sound on the move, she presented an elegant, well-balanced and correctly proportioned picture that was difficult to fault. Superbly turned out and expertly presented. I was thrilled to award her the Bitch CC and Best Opposite Sex. I was later informed that this was her third CC—many congratulations to her owner and the breeder.

Class PGB (2 Entries) Abs: 1 

1st: McDowall – Altina’s Margarita For Carberry  

Cream, 18 months old. A quality youngster with a feminine, sweet head, a good scissor bite, and excellent pigmentation. She has well-placed, attractive eyes with dark rims, small ears, a well-ribbed body, and a high-set tail. She moved and showed well throughout. With a little more body, she would have been a strong contender in the final. A quality bitch who is very sound on the move and was presented in lovely condition.

Class LB (2 Entries) 

1st: Black – Verona Tai Lauras To Zaandam JW (IMP LTU) 

Orange Sable, 3 years old. I liked her size and overall balance. A well-coated bitch with a true foxy expression, nice legs and feet, and good tail carriage. Her well-textured coat enhanced her lovely outline. She has a pleasing head, oval-shaped dark eyes, and a good scissor bite. Soundly constructed throughout, she moved beautifully and showed well, scoring in outline and carrying herself smartly around the ring. Presented in lovely condition.

2nd: Ritchie – Klassna All That Glitters At Dykebar 

Orange Sable, 19 months old. A very good-quality bitch with a pretty, feminine head of lovely shape, complemented by small, well-set ears and a pleasing eye and muzzle. She is of good size and displays an excellent overall outline when standing, with a good coat and correct tailset. At times, she moved rather exuberantly, which tended to detract from her outline, but she has much to admire. Presented in immaculate condition.

Class OB (4 Entries) Abs: 1 

1st: Davey – Klassna Dream About Me JW

Red Sable, 21 months old. Another superb-quality exhibit who absolutely stood out for her quality and breed type. She has a lovely feminine head, good pigmentation, dark eyes with black rims, a good cobby body, and is well ribbed. Her correct-textured coat was in full bloom, and she stood four square on her cat-like feet. She moved and showed well throughout and was presented in excellent condition. I was delighted to award her the Reserve Bitch CC. I later learned that this was her fifth CC.

2nd: Cawthera-Purdy – Ch Lireva’s Just On A Daydream    

Orange Sable, 3 years old. Another lovely quality exhibit with a nice head, good pigmentation, correct eyes with dark rims, neat, small ears, a well-ribbed body, and a high-set tail. She has a good plume coming through. Sadly, today she was not as positive on the move as the winner. A well-made bitch who was presented in excellent condition.

3rd: Ogilvie – Altina’s hint Of Brooklyn
