Norfolk Terrier

I would like to thank the Officers and Committee for their kind invitation, and my steward, Mrs Jill Massingham, who ensured the day ran so smoothly.

Most importantly, I would like to thank the exhibitors for allowing me the privilege of judging such a lovely, quality entry of 27 dogs from an entry of 30.

This was my first appointment awarding Challenge Certificates in this beautiful breed, and I was honoured to assess such a worthy entry. Overall, I found the quality to be very pleasing. However, several exhibits lacked the alert, fearless attitude that is so characteristic of the breed, and this ultimately put them out of contention for the Challenge Certificates.

1st: Thompson-Morgan – Belleville Turn The Tables

Red, 11 months old. A handsome young dog with a beautifully masculine-shaped head. Good medium-sized, V-shaped ears and medium-sized, dark, oval-shaped eyes with excellent pigmentation. Correct scissor bite. Strong neck leading into a straight front. Well-sprung ribs, level topline and a good turn of stifle. Moved soundly with good drive, carrying himself well on good round feet with nice thick pads. Hard, wiry coat and presented in lovely condition. A very promising youngster with an exciting future. Delighted to award him the Reserve CC, Best Dog Puppy and Best Puppy in Breed.

Class YD (2 Entries)

1st: Jenkins – Kinsridge Dark Moon

Black & Tan, 17 months old, with a beautiful masculine-shaped head. Well built, with good bone and size, extremely well presented, and moving very well. Excellent pigmentation, good scissor bite, a moderately strong neck, straight front, and moderately angulated rear. Good ribcage, level topline, and moved briskly with good drive on excellent feet. Harsh, wiry coat of good quality. Stood alone and was a worthy winner, pushing hard for the Reserve CC.

Class PGD (2 Entries)

1st: Thompson & Pope – Belleville In A Word

Red, 3 years old, with pleasing head proportions, excellent pigmentation, and an oval-shaped, obliquely set eye. Complete scissor bite. Moderately sloping shoulders, correct coat texture, and a good tail carried jauntily. Moved well, with a lovely outline, and was presented in superb condition.

2nd: Ponta – Tinkave In The Groove With Belleville

Pale Red, 2 years old, with a very nice head and expression. Pleasing body shape and presented in good condition. I just preferred the movement of the winner, who was playing his handler up on the day.

Class LD (4 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: Owens – Brickin A Wish Away

Red, 2 years old, stood out for quality and breed type. Such a lovely dog to go over, with a good masculine broad skull, wedge-shaped muzzle, well-defined stop, and medium-sized oval eyes. Moderately strong neck, well-sprung ribs, and level topline. Gave his handler a hard time on the day, but moves so soundly. Presented in superb condition.

2nd: Toms & Daws – Jaeva Party Boy

Red, 2 years old, another attractive dog with a coat of the correct texture. Pleasing head and eye, strong neck, compact body, and correct ear carriage. Showed and moved well, although not moving quite as well as the winner today. Very well presented.

3rd: Ward – Littlemount Celyn Y Mor

Class OD (4 Entries)

1st: Thompson-Morgan – Ch Layhefields Great Ridge By Belleville

Red, nearly 2 years old, absolutely stood out for quality and breed type. Such a lovely dog to go over, with an excellent masculine broad skull and wedge-shaped muzzle, well-defined stop, and medium-sized oval eyes. Moderately strong neck, well-sprung ribs, level topline, and compact body. He has such ring presence and moves so soundly, making him difficult to fault when he is on this form. He also has a great temperament, being alert and fearless. His presentation was immaculate. Delighted to award him the Dog CC and Best Opposite Sex.

2nd: Smith – Javidel Repeat If I May

Black & Tan, 2 years old, another attractive dog with a hard, wiry coat of the correct texture. Pleasing head and eye, nice neck, and a compact body. Unfortunately, today he did not want to fully cooperate with his handler. Presented in good condition.

3rd: Davis – Watercroft Cosmic Dust

See Post Graduate Winner

2nd: Ward – Littlemount Celyn Y Mor

Red, 4½ years old, previously placed 3rd in Limit Dog. Nice quality head with broad skull, compact body, and level topline. Moved soundly, but unfortunately was not fully cooperating with his handler when moving today. Shown in good condition.

Class MPB (2 Entries)

1st: Ward – Littlemount Raspberry Leaf

Red, 8 months old, with a quality head and feminine expression. Showed herself very well for such a youngster. Good scissor bite, oval-shaped dark eyes, well-placed ears, and a strong neck. She has an excellent temperament, moved so soundly, and was totally at one with her handler.

Good coat with a wiry texture. She went around the ring with such style and confidence. I was delighted to award her the Reserve CC Bitch and Best Puppy Bitch.

2nd: Mullan – Watercroft Tittle Tattle At Tamodan

Red, 8 months old, another nice Minor Puppy. Slightly finer in head, with excellent pigmentation and a level topline. Just not as mature as the winner today, but she has plenty of time to develop in body. Lovely breed type. Moved soundly and was shown in good condition.

Class JB (2 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: Jenkins – Kinsridge Strawberry Moon

Red, 15 months old, my star of the day. Entered the ring with great presence, this ultra-feminine girl showing excellent size and maturity. Moved with drive and presence, so very stylish and sound. Lovely to go over on the table, with typical head proportions, lovely neck and shoulders, good rear quarters, and a nicely coupled body. Moving extremely well and showing herself off beautifully. Good quality coat and my ideal size. Superbly turned out today. Excellent temperament, alert and fearless.

Hard to fault this elegant, well-balanced, and proportioned youngster. I was thrilled to award her the Bitch CC and Best of Breed. I was later told this was her third CC — congratulations.

Class YB (2 Entries)

1st: Dragon & Tate – Jaeva Poker Face

Black & Tan, 16 months old, quality type with a good bite, broad skull, well-placed ears, dark oval-shaped eyes, and good pigmentation. Straight front, compact body, and level topline. Her handler needs to be more at one with her and watch her more closely in the class. She took her time to settle but did enough to win. A quality bitch who was very sound on the move. Presented in good condition.

2nd: MacArtney – Nordalset Storming In To Ivrig

Black & Tan, 20 months old, with a pleasing head and ears. Not the body shape of the winner and was out of coat today; her coat was just starting to come back. Presented in nice condition and moved soundly.

Class PGB (3 Entries) Abs: 2

1st: Philip – Nordalset Brite N’shiny

Red, 18 months old, good size with typical head proportions, good bite, and excellent pigmentation. Nice neck and shoulders, with good rear quarters. Very unsettled today, but she came together when it mattered and did enough to win the class. Needs a little more body to complete the picture.

Class LB (1 Entries)

1st: Jones – Jaeva Raising Hell

Red, 3 years old, with a nice head, oval-shaped dark eyes, and good scissor bite. Her overall construction is sound, and when she moved correctly, she was sound. Unfortunately, she needed to pay more attention on the move, as she kept sniffing the grass, making it difficult to assess her outline when her head was down. She did enough to win this class. Presented in lovely condition.

Class OB (3 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: Thompson-Morgan – Belleville Counting Stars

Red, 2 years old, absolutely stood out for quality and breed type. Such a lovely bitch to go over, with an excellent broad skull and wedge-shaped muzzle, well-defined stop, and medium-sized oval eyes. Moderately strong neck, well-sprung ribs, level topline, and a compact body.

Unfortunately, today she let herself down, as it was clear she was not happy with her handler. The standard asks for temperament to be alert and fearless, and I was disappointed that this affected her performance and put her out of contention for the CC. Such a shame, as I liked her a lot.

2nd: Gee – Watercroft Over The Moon

Black & Tan, 19 months old, another of lovely quality. She showed and moved so soundly, never putting a foot wrong. Lovely head with correct bite and oval-shaped eyes. Sadly, today she was slightly lacking in body; when she fills out, this will help to make her look more compact. Well-made body and presented in excellent condition.

Class VB (1 Entries)

1st: MacArtney – Ivrig Dancing In The Sun

Red, 8½ years old, with a pleasing head and good scissor bite. Her overall construction is sound, and this is reflected in her movement. Lovely outgoing, happy temperament; she clearly enjoys the ring. I admired her qualities, and she was relishing the outing. Presented in good condition. I was thrilled to award her Best Veteran Bitch and Best Veteran in Breed.
