 I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of the Border Union Championship Dog Show for inviting me to judge. My sincere thanks also go to my stewards, Mr and Miss Mark and Joyce Collins, for their assistance throughout the day.

I would also like to thank all the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to assess their dogs. I was presented with a number of quality exhibits, with 53 dogs making an entry of 62. While a few exhibits were carrying a little excess weight, overall. I was pleased with the quality on display. I was particularly satisfied with my final line-up and was delighted to find some top-quality examples of the breed.

Minor Puppy Dog. (5) Abs: 1 

1st Lee – Ridgehawk Stroller

Fawn sable, 8 months old. A very promising puppy with a lovely head, large round expressive eyes, and well-set ears. He has an elegant arched neck, a well-constructed body, sound hindquarters, a good tail set, and a well-turned stifle. Moved soundly and was presented in excellent condition. I hope he has now completed his growth, as he has much to admire.

2nd Heap & Palmer – Maciendas Akeru God 

White, 7 months old. A very neat and attractive puppy with a pleasing head, large round eyes, well-carried ears, and the correct length of muzzle. He has a straight front, and a balanced outline. Moved well, just conceding to the winner on movement. Presented in lovely condition.

3rd Maclachlan & McDonald – Athos The Noble

Puppy Dog. (5) 

1st Todd-McCoid – Rubyanlo Mr Majestic 

Red sable, 11 months old. A well-balanced and typy youngster with a lovely temperament. He possesses a masculine head, a medium neck flowing into a level topline, and a well-carried tail. His coat is of correct texture, and he showed and moved perfectly to take this class. A little dog to be proud of, presented in superb condition. Best Puppy Dog. 

2nd Sangster – Kirlasidh Speed Bonnie Boat

Fawn sable, 11 months old. Well coated and of similar size to the winner. He has a lovely masculine head and is a very appealing youngster. Unfortunately, he was not moving as well as 1 today and seemed somewhat unsettled by the windy conditions. Presented in beautiful condition.

Junior Dog. (6) Abs: 1 

1st Coulter – Starceylon Foinavon At Collooney 

Cream Tan, 13 months old. A promising young exhibit with a good head, pleasing eyes and mouth, and a nice medium reach of neck. He has a level topline and an attractive overall body shape, with good ear placement and well-laid shoulders. His front movement was good, and he moved soundly throughout. A bright, keen youngster with a lovely body and excellent presentation, shown in very good condition.

2nd Lynch – Chirolin Magic Strike At Garnox 

Fawn & White, 13 months old. A pleasing young exhibit with a lovely head, attractive eyes, and correct mouth. He has a correct ear set, a nice apple dome, and good pigmentation. His neck and topline are good, and he moved soundly around the ring. Presented in good condition. On the day, I preferred the overall proportions of the winner.

2nd Fellone – French Connection Right Royal Of Emarachis (IMP CZE)   

Sable, 10½ months old. Reserve in a good-quality Puppy Class. A pleasing youngster with a nice head and good mouth. He moved better in this class and was much more settled in his performance. He has the correct coat and was presented in good condition. At this stage, he would benefit from gaining a little more body and maturity.

Graduate Dog. (2)

1st Heap & Palmer – Chirouxe Major Tom  

Red Sable, 2 years old. Presented in excellent coat and condition. He has lovely, expressive eyes, correct ears, and a good mouth. Nicely balanced throughout, he moved soundly and showed well for his handler at all times.

Post Graduate Dog. (2)   

1st Heap & Palmer – Little Wonder At Lemaritz Chirouxe 

Red, 2 years old. An attractive young dog with a masculine head, good stop, and pleasing expression. Nice size and well-proportioned throughout. Presented in excellent body condition with a pleasing coat texture and shown in super condition. Although a little anxious at times, he moved soundly and made a very pleasing overall picture.

2nd Gilling – Rubyanlo Tommy Hilfiger of Talocan JW

Sable, 2½ years old. A lovely dog with a beautiful apple head, great expression, and a correct scissor bite. Good medium reach of neck with a slight arch. Lovely type with a nice coat, presented in super condition. Unfortunately, he was not coping well with the ground surface of the ring on the day, but overall, he made a very pleasing picture.

Limit Dog. (3) 

1st Lee – Tidos Treat Or Treat 

Red, 4 years old. A masculine dog with a pleasing head, large, round, eyes, and correctly placed ears. Scissor bite with excellent pigmentation and a correct textured coat. Straight forelegs, well-laid shoulders, and a muscular, well-angulated rear contributed to his balanced outline. Maintained a level topline both standing and on the move. Although slightly out of coat, he had nothing to hide and was presented in lovely condition throughout.

2nd Rushton, Chang & Robson – Yensha’s Supersonic With Tidos 

Cream, 2 years old. Lovely head, although I slightly preferred the pigmentation of the winner. A good type with a level topline, good depth of brisket, and well-sprung ribs. Strong hindquarters with a nice bend of stifle, enabling him to move with plenty of energy and enthusiasm. He has a great expression, a nice coat, and was presented in excellent condition.

3rd Grace, Twaddle & O’Neil – Chirolin Here I Come To Sasilasy  

Open Dog. (7) Abs: 1

 A quality class of champions, with excellent breed type and presentation throughout, making for a highly competitive class.

1st Day, Bisson & Beaumont – Ch Monicachi Money Talks At Beaulamey  

Light Red, 18 months old. There was something very special about this impressive young dog. He has a strong masculine head with the large, round eyes and large flaring ears, creating a very attractive expression. His arched neck flows beautifully into well-laid shoulders, with well-sprung ribs and good depth of brisket. He has straight forelegs set well under the body, muscular hindquarters, and a good turn of stifle. His coat is of the correct soft texture and was presented in pristine condition.

A quality young dog who just edged the Bitch CC, with maturity giving him the advantage on the day. I felt he was the more finished exhibit to send into the group, and I was delighted to award him Dog CC & Best of Breed.

2nd Heap & Palmer – Ch Maciendas Ra 

Cream Sable, 2½ years old. A smart little dog with good overall balance and an impressive head. He has a firm, solid body with strong hindquarters, good legs and feet, and is very sound on the move. He moved stylishly and confidently, showing good quality throughout. Presented in excellent condition, and I was pleased to award him Reserve Dog CC.

1st Symon – Bramerita Here’s Trouble At Charabri VW 

Tricolour Dog, 8½ years old. A very typical specimen with a lovely head, beautiful ears, and large, round eyes that give him a most appealing expression. He has a well-arched neck flowing into a nicely balanced body, with a correctly set tail and good proportions throughout. Presented in excellent coat and condition, he moved soundly and confidently, showing himself to advantage at all times. The first of five class winners from this kennel, all handled by different handlers, which was a credit to the team. A quality veteran, and I was pleased to award him Best Veteran Dog and Best Veteran in Breed.

Minor Puppy Bitch. (3) Abs: 1 

1st Magri – Bramerita Im A Faithful Rozamie 

Tricolour, 8 months old. A beautiful puppy, smart and very well put together, with a lovely showy presence and delightful temperament. She has a typical head with a well-rounded apple-domed skull, definite stop, and a short, slightly pointed muzzle, all complemented by a saucy expression. Her large, expressive eyes and flaring ears, which she used to great advantage, enhance her overall appeal. She has a pleasing arch of neck flowing into a level topline, with good overall conformation and balance. Her coat is of correct texture and was presented in sparkling condition. On the move, she was ultra-sound in both directions, displaying confidence and excellent carriage throughout. Presented in excellent condition and a very promising youngster.

2nd Lynch – Garnox Gold Dust Woman 

Red & White, 6 months old. A very promising baby puppy with a pretty, feminine head, large round eyes, and excellent pigmentation. She has much to admire and gives the impression of great potential for the future. On this occasion, she was not fully cooperating and needs a little more ring experience to settle and show herself to advantage, but she is still very much a baby. Despite her youthful exuberance, there is plenty to like about her, and with further practice and maturity she should develop well. Presented in good condition.

Puppy. (2) Abs: 1

1st Hornby – Bramerita Priceless  

Sable Cream, 10 months old. I was very impressed with this delightful youngster. She possesses the sweetest of heads combined with a saucy expression, large lustrous eyes, and a good medium length neck. She moved well with a true “look at me” attitude, displaying a brisk, forceful action and excellent balance throughout. She has pleasing bone and substance for her age, a correct front, and moved soundly in both directions. Her tail was carried correctly and wagged nonstop, reflecting her happy temperament. Presented in immaculate condition. I was delighted to awarded her the Bitch CC, Best Opposite Sex, and Best Puppy in Breed. I was then thrilled to see her go on to win the Toy Puppy Group and ultimately Best Puppy in Show under Stephen Bardwell.

Junior Bitch (6) Abs: 2 

1st Silverstein – Bramerita Posy Of Violets At Silverchi 

Fawn Sable, 10 months old. Two very promising youngsters who made this a difficult class to judge, as both have great potential for the future. The winner's ultra-sound movement ultimately won the day. She is a very feminine young bitch with a classic head, good stop, and large flaring ears that she used to great advantage. She moved true in both directions, maintaining a firm topline and correct tailset throughout. Her happy, confident temperament ultimately clinched the class. A quality youngster with much to admire, presented in lovely condition.

2nd Todd-McCoid – Rubyanlo Caramia 

Fawn Sable, 14 months old. A lovely young girl of excellent type, displaying a pretty feminine head with dark, expressive eyes and well-placed large ears. She is well balanced throughout and moved soundly with a free and easy action. On this occasion, she appeared somewhat unsettled by the windy conditions and was not quite giving her best performance today. Nevertheless, her quality was evident, and she has much to admire.

3rd Gilling – Chantico Black Diamond Of Talocan (IKC) 

Yearling Bitch. (4) Abs: 1 

1st Todd-McCaid – Rubyanlo Knock Your Sox Off 

Fawn Sable, 18 months old. An ultra-feminine young bitch of excellent type. She has a lovely apple-domed skull, large expressive eyes, and well-placed ears, which she used to great advantage. Her body shape is excellent, with a pleasing outline and a level topline. A bright, keen exhibit, she showed herself well at all times. She has good shoulders and front construction, and moved stylishly and soundly with purpose. Her lovely body and overall balance complete a very attractive picture. Presented in immaculate condition, as were all exhibits from this kennel. A quality bitch deserving of her award of Reserve Bitch CC.

2nd Silverstein – Silverchi Name That Tune  

Fawn Sable, 13 months old. Another quality young bitch with much to admire. She moved well both coming and going, displaying soundness and good overall balance. She has many pleasing attributes and presents an attractive picture. On the day, I felt she was carrying slightly too much weight, which affected her outline when compared to those placed above her. She has a coat of correct texture and was presented in lovely condition. A promising exhibit with plenty of quality.

3rd Bain-Wyse – Ismirelle Teddy Bear Picnic   

Novice Bitch. (2) Abs: 1

1st Czyz – Flaming Lamborghini Right Royal (IMP CZE) 

Tricolour, 10 months old. I was pleased with this lovely young bitch. She has the sweetest of heads with a charming saucy expression. She is very well balanced, with good bone and substance for her age, and a correct front. She moved very soundly in both directions, carrying her tail correctly and wagging nonstop, showing her happy and confident temperament. Presented in good condition, she stood alone and was a very worthy winner.

1st Symon – Jotolemar Time Stands Still With Charabri 

Fawn Sable & White, 2 years old. A lovely bitch of good type with a pleasing overall balance. She has good spring of rib and firm, well-angulated hindquarters. She really comes into her own on the move, where she is very sound and shows herself well. At times she appeared a little apprehensive, but her quality was evident. Presented in lovely condition.

2nd Kerr – Silverchi Rhapsody In Blue From Rhinns 

Blue Fawn, 2 years old. A very attractive bitch with a lovely head and expression, large flaring ears, and good overall appeal. She is in good coat of the correct texture and was presented in nice condition. On this occasion, she was not moving as well as expected, possibly due to coming into season, which affected her performance in the ring. Nevertheless, she has many pleasing qualities and is a quality exhibit.

Fawn Sable, 2 years old. Another quality exhibit from this kennel. She has a very feminine head with large, expressive eyes, excellent pigmentation, and large ears which she used to good advantage. She is nicely made, with good size and body weight, pleasing shoulder angulation, a straight front, strong hindquarters, and a nice bend of stifle. She moved with positive front and hind action and showed herself well in the ring. On the day, she was carrying slightly more weight than ideal, but she was presented in lovely condition and remains a quality bitch with much to admire.

1st Titterrell & Bruce – Caballie Madame Blondie 

Cream, 3 years old. A very attractive bitch with a pretty feminine head and lovely expression. She has a good domed skull, large flaring eyes, and a pleasing balance of bone and substance. She has a firm, level topline, correct tailset, and is very sound on the move. She moved with confidence, showing that all-important sassy attitude, and never put a foot wrong. A quality exhibit who was presented in excellent condition, although on the day she was carrying slightly more weight than ideal.

2nd Kerr – Vanilla Sky Leo Valentina Of Kircyan (IMP SVK) 

Cream, 4 years old. A lovely bitch with a feminine head, correct apple-domed skull, and a definite stop. She has a good front and pleasing size, with excellent type throughout. She moved soundly and showed good balance, although I would have liked to see her moved a little quicker to show her movement to its best advantage. Another quality exhibit, presented in excellent condition.

Veteran Bitch (1)   

1st Sangster – Chirolin Whats It All About By Kirlasidh 

Cream & White, 7 years old. A very pretty veteran bitch with a well-shaped head, large expressive eyes, she is exceptionally well balanced and a pleasure to go over on the table, with everything fitting together nicely, good bloom to her coat, and was presented in nice condition. A quality veteran who thoroughly deserved her award of Best Veteran Bitch.
