My thanks to the City of Birmingham show committee for giving me the opportunity to judge my first Utility Group. At this level. And my congratulations to them and their helpers for such a well-organized and enjoyable show. An extremely strong group was sent into me from the breed judges and my decisions had to be made on the finest of margins.

I arrived at a short list of 8 dogs which, in addition to my four top winners included the Boston Terrier Ch Ivyjewel Cast A Spell JW (ROULSTON, Miss H), the French Bulldog Ch Olijah Going In Deep JW (TIMMS, Miss Olivia), the Standard Poodle Ch Afterglow Kill For Candy (LYNN, Mr Jason B & DE CIABATTI, Mrs Ilaria Biondi) and the Tibetan Terrier It World Ch Waterley Heart Breaker JW (DAVIES, Mr G ).

My eventual winner was the wonderful Toy Poodle Ch Dream High Kai Kennel Afterglow Adrenaline (ISHERWOOD, Mr T & LYNN, Mr Jason) who took ownership of the ring as soon as she started to move, covering the ground in great style. Short backed with excellent ribs, immaculately presented coat, refined head and intense arrogant expression. In 2nd place was the Tibetan Spaniel Castafiore Sevastyan (PROUVE, Mr L & MORAN, Mr A) with his lovely balanced head and warm quizzical expression, impressively proportioned outline, proud carriage and free flowing action on the move. In 3rd place was the Japanese Shiba Inu Ch Vormund Vivienne Westwood (DUNHILL-HALL, Miss M) who commands attention with her lovely proportioned outline, great profile on the move and super head and expression. Making up the final four, in 4th place was the Akita

Am Ch Stylesign Gunshot At Stecal (Imp) (BEVIS, Ms F & BEVIS, C & CORR, R & VENEZIA, K) still a young dog but very athletic with great substance, powerful action on the move and impressive head and expression.
