Memorial Open Stakes

Always an honour to be invited to judge at a breed specialist show. Sincere thanks to the NNC committee and my very able steward Mrs Rose Evans and to all the exhibitors who chose to support this new class in memory of those judges and dogs that are no longer with us. I must say overall I found the large mixed class of varying ages was full of quality.    

1st Pallet’s Yulla for Sheenmarie (IMP DU) JW    

Fully mature Brown 5-year female, well up for size and one who stands out for balance, depth and shape with no obvious exaggerations. A melting feminine expression with super skull to muzzle ratio tight flews & a correctly shaped tight dark eye that complements her coat colour, excellent detention.

Correct lay of shoulder to a close-fitting elbow and well boned legs of a good length, strong pasterns and deep padded feet. Good length of neck, depth of chest to the elbow, good length and spring of rib to a short loin, this is complemented with a well-muscled rear with balanced angulation to short firm hocks and rear pasterns. Gently sloping croup with correct tail set and length. 

On the move she was foot perfect, her excellent conformation all comes together so well in an unhurried extended gait almost as light as air and very impressive, parallel coming towards and going away showing a clean pair of pads, holds a level topline throughout with correct tail carriage.            

Excellently handled and presented so well. One who I feel could wear her crown with ease.

2nd Hosie’s Lux Ch King of Helluland Jungle Book at Shadowrise JW (IMP SVK)  

Last judged this super Black male as teenager, now 3 yrs he is maturing into a fabulous example of the breed with great size, bone and depth all through. 

He presents with such super static balance and a great profile, a handsome male, but not quite the skull to muzzle ratio of the winner with a slightly deeper lip, dark, well-fitting eye, good ear and excellent detention. 

Strong neck, well set on to a good lay back of shoulder, well boned parallel front, close fitting elbows. Deep chest with plenty of heart room, good spring of rib to a short loin, broad backed with level topline. Correct croup and tail set to medium rear angulation and strong short firm hocks. At times he just tended to a little proud of his tail today.

His well-muscled inner thigh shows as he powered around the ring with great extension and rear drive, clean coming and going. Beautifully presented and so well handled. Still more to come from this lovely boy.
