SOUTHERN COUNTIES CH SHOW

Bull Terriers

Entries may not be huge at the moment but the overall standard seems pretty good. As usual nowadays it’s pleasing to see how much hindquarters have generally improved in terms of angles & muscling, though tail sets are sometimes rather high, often in the better overall dogs. Several really good movers today. Almost all have at least decent heads & the majority had OK dentition. A few could be calmer in the ring; it’s not very helpful when you have to struggle to see the teeth & need the handler’s help to do so.

JD (1) 1 Karta-Williams & Williams’ Karmara’s Super Duper, huge white boy with tremendous bone & substance, well made all through with balanced angles, reachy neck into excellent topline with slight arch over the loin, moved true when settled, looked well going round, powerful head with wicked eye & OK ears, could have a shade more profile & fill. PGD (1) 1 Mathison’s Blazinbullys Heartbreaker, shapely typy white with an eyecatching outline, very short back, well angulated, well boned, feet could be a shade tighter, strong masculine head with super profile, excellent eyes, ears & expression, good profile, enough fill. Moved jauntily, a shade wide in front & needs to firm up in rear movement. LD (1) 1 RCC, Roberts’ Teirwgwyn Gunsman, very handsome b/br who makes quite an impression, super shape with a long neck through clean shoulders into an excellent topline, masses of bone & substance, straight front into tight feet. His lovely male head, completely filled & with a super profile, reminded me immediately of Top Gun who I see is his grandsire, small correct shape eyes, well carried ears, once settled moved well in front & smartly going round. Just felt CC winner was a shade more compact & slightly truer behind, but this is a very handsome chap who I hope should make up soon. OD (2) 1 CC & BOB, Foster’s Ch Buster Hill Bilboen, superb white with so many virtues & so little to quibble with, loved his overall type, short back & the way he holds himself together going round, beautiful head with strength, fill & profile, top class eye & expression, neck in proportion, smooth shoulders plus corresponding upper arm, straight front with plenty of bone, matching hind angulation. On top of all this he’s an exceptional mover, absolutely true both ways & with great style going round. Pity he couldn’t stay for the group - it’s dogs like this we need in the big ring to prove the breed can move as well as any; 2 Bunce & Holkham’s Ch Rougebull Fragile Silence at Dougherty, lovely red whose great attributes are his clean lines & general air of quality, very good head with small dark eye & super profile, 1 had a shade more fill. Excellent topline, well made hindquarters, enough bone, winner slightly firmer in pastern, free active mover with plenty of style, another very worthy champion & strong contender for the RCC.

BB (1) 1 Melia’s Nevernight Pursuit, pretty feminine white with a shapely outline, excellent topline, OK bone & front, good neck & shoulder, well carried ears, good eye, could have a shade more strength in muzzle. Moved smartly, true in front, slightly close behind, tail carriage slightly high but certainly not the only one you could say that about today. PB (1) 1 CC & BP, Karta-Williams & Williams’ Karmara’s Little Witch, beautiful 10 months white full of type & style & certainly not little! Excellent head with a lovely profile, plenty of fill & a wicked expression, superb reach of neck into smooth topline, the right angles, plenty of bone, straight front with tight feet, mature in body, free sound mover. In the challenge she used that lovely neck to best advantage & I couldn’t resist her even though the competition was intense. JB (3) 1 Stanley’s Aricon Blink Of A Eye, short compact red with the conformation this kennel is renowned for & which has done so much to improve shapeliness & movement in the breed. Super front & feet, well laid back shoulder, reachy neck, excellent hindquarters with good tail set, moved accordingly, true both ways & with real reach & drive. Her feminine head has good profile, eyes & ears & just needs time to mature & develop a shade more strength. Strong challenger for the top spots, sure her time will come; 2 Dyson’s Bullwizz Star Attraction Tawnbarr, lovely white with plenty of substance, excellent head, super eye & expression, powerful muzzle, ears could be slightly smaller, excellent neck & shoulder, powerful well made hindquarters, winner a bit more compact & held her topline better today; 3 N Pursuit. PGB (4) 1 Hird’s Blazinbullys Golden Girl at Loidisrose, smart upstanding richly marked brindle, quality head with excellent profile & strong muzzle, OK reach of neck, good topline, enough substance, super bone into neat feet, moved true with good drive behind, could just have a touch more front angulation; 2 Villensia’s Kirkville Bushido Villensia, feminine white with a classy look, super profile, good eye & expression, reachy neck, OK bone, feet could be tighter. Close decision here between these two quality girls, winner a bit truer coming & going today; 3 Shippam’s Kencostaff Fire Starter. LB (2) 1 Mountain’s Bilboen Wanderlust Opal, quality white with the lovely head type this affix so often produces, feminine yet powerful with an unbroken profile, excellent eyes & ears, super front with enough bone & good feet, clean neck & shoulder, strong hindquarters, perhaps could be slightly more compact, moved true without quite the sheer enthusiasm of today’s stars; 2 Urry’s Sif The Goddess at Furrybeans, smart red with a good head & expression, not quite the fill of 1, excellent front & feet, OK neck, strong hindquarters, winner scored on front assembly & movement. OB (2) 1 RCC, Caprino’s Satyricon’s Ice Coated, gorgeous white with a real quality look, ‘smooth’ is the word that sums her up, pretty feminine unexaggerated head, super neck, just the right angles, super bone & feet, shapely body, neatly made hindquarters, moved true if not quite with the sheer style of the puppy. Funny how a ‘look’ reappears down the pedigree, reminded me so much of my Crufts winner quite a few years & generations ago; 2 Mathison’s Blazinbullys Black Widow, very smart upstanding b/br of a different type, excellent head with super expression & good profile & fill, short back, enough substance, well made hindquarters, just preferred winner’s shoulder & upper arm. Certainly has plenty of spirit!
