BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG

The ring was a challenge for all of us on the day in question - not only for the significant and rising slope throughout its length but the ruts and holes did not help either. So finding a flat area was a challenge for all of us but with a wonderful breed like this the ability to assess ‘free movement’ on the out and back, and in profile, followed by a ‘free stand’ is for me fundamental.

Two 8 year old veteran dogs
1. Bird’s Ch. Cullumbern Milano JW ShCEx OSW VW. Well proportioned dog and it was this that took the class for him, good head and expression, nice balance and correct length to height ratio, sound in profile but moved wide in front on the out and back.

2. Cotton’s Ch. Kernow Billy No Mates at Jukesbern. Very well handled and presented but overall proportions rather too long in the loin for me compared to the height at the withers, however sound on the move.

1. Copeland’s Oakbern Vali of Gold at Maxjabar. 14 month old male, good proportions when viewed in profile but on the stand tended to stand at 10 to 2 and was a touch ‘hocky’ on the out and back, shown in good coat and condition.

1. Howard’s Etterbern Essex Boy. 3 year old male, good head proportions, excellent balanced angulation, strong top-line, nice feet and pasterns, absolutely sound on the move, shown to advantage, RDCC.

2. Cotton’s Etterbern Buz Vegas at Jukesbern. Nicely balanced dog, just a little untidy in front on the stand but good head, strong top-line, nice croup and tail set, absolutely sound on the move.

3. Meakin’s Angelrain Dark Prince.

1. Austen’s Kernow Blue Mist. A difficult class but on balance this first exhibit showed the better balance of angulation fore and aft, correct head and expression, good shoulders, nice turn of stifle and sound on the move.

2. Ganko’s Haribo Kielo Cud at Ninnilove. I like this exhibit but for his front on the stand was at 10 to 2, good overall proportions and moved as well as anyone in the class, excellent head and expression.

3. Jones’ Collansues Abracadabra.

1. Weatherbed’s Harvestbank King Creole. Very nice 3 year old male, good head, excellent overall proportions, sound on the move and was absolutely rock solid on the free stand and it was this that took the class, DCC.

2. Cotton’s Ch. Shirdees Greatest Showman at Jukesbern. Quite a strong head with as much stop as I would like but good angulation and moved to advantage, a touch untidy in front on the stand.

3. Dybdall/Lydon’s Ch. Rodiveco King of Hearts.

1. Wright/Kirk’s Ch Uk Int Ch Fr Ir Rom Objet D’Art du Hameau De Baika avec Roesilbern. Very nice 8 year old bitch, lovely feminine head and expression, excellent angulation fore and aft, strong top-line, absolutely sound on the move and shown in good coat and condition, BCC, BV & BOB.

1. Copeland’s Kernow Prize at Maxjabar. 8 month old bitch, charming head and expression, well angulated but constantly in search of reward on the out and back which spoilt her front movement but nice overall balance with a typical feminine head and expression, BP.

1. Spalding’s Kinelarty Rambling Rose. 9 month old bitch, lovely feminine head, plenty of leg length, balanced angulation, a little narrow throughout at this stage however this will improve with maturity, sound on the move and a nice prospect.

1. Oliver Bridges’ Liskarn Love Me Like You Do. Very nice 17 month old feminine bitch, good head and expression, as much back length as I would like, shown in good coat and condition, very well handled and presented, RBCC.

2. Carman’s Iberia Z Cvanovho Dvora. Nice head and expression, good bone, correct feet, good pasterns, moderate angulation fore and aft, sound on the move.

3. Spalding’s Tulipanpos Berni Quintina Quinta at Tickbern.

1. Wright/Kirk’s Roesilbern Fors Fortuna JW. Feminine head and expression, correct length of neck, balanced angulation, strong top-line, good croup and tail set, correct bone, easy on the move.

1. King/Green’s Arvella Busy Bea JW. Just took the class on overall better balance when viewed in profile, feminine head, good overall proportions, excellent bone, correct feet and sound on the move.

2. Meakin’s Bellatrix Do Monte Dos Ursos (imp PRT). Another nice bitch but with as much length of loin as I would like but again foot perfect on the out and back.

1. Evans’ Etterbern Made In Essex for Evansly. Very well proportioned bitch also shown in good hard condition, feminine head, correct strong top-line, moved well in profile, tended to flick her pasterns on the out and back.

1. Oliver Bridges’ Ch. Rodiveco Tatiana Arette to Liskarn. Took the class on her movement, nice head and expression, correct neck and set of shoulder, good bone, nice feet, strong top-line, again as much back length as I would like but absolutely sound on the move.

2. English/Green’s Ch. Waldershelf Gin and Tonic. Very well handled and presented carrying as much condition as I would like on the day, a little loose in the front on the out and back.

3. Sutton/Davenport-Willis’ Ch. Nelstephbern Dior by Design.

1. Smee/Coleman’s Int Ch/Ir Ch. Balthazar Pumida avec Schnaubern (imp CZE). 11½ year old male, outstanding example of the breed, correct head proportions, balanced in profile, good length of leg, level top-line, easy parallel gait, shown in good hard muscular condition, BV.

Sibling rivalry dominated these 2 exhibits on the day unfortunately!

1. Morgan’s Alepenkye Gabs The Defender.  Preferred the overall structure of 1 with good overall proportions and a sound parallel gait.

2. Cooper’s Alepenkye Kia A Bit Forward. Somewhat impossible to handle but when on the stand has the potential to make significant improvements in the ring without the presence of competition, in much need of practise!

1. Forrest/Lucas’s Schnaubern Gienah Star over Philandros. A nice male, good head, nice dark eye, level top-line, balanced moderate angulation and sound on the move, good prospect at 23 months, RBD.

2. Cooper’s Pumiden White Said Fred. 5 year old male, well proportioned, good bone but not quite the rear angulation of 1, I would prefer a little more length of leg.

1. Sarantos and Smee’s Ir Ch/Bel Ch. Blacktide Bolts Son among Schnaubern. Very nice head and expression, correct ears and ear set, nice eye, good overall balance, nice length of leg, good coat, shown in good hard condition, BD & BOB.

2. Kirkwood’s Lux Ch Bel Ch Schnaubern Draco Star at Yolstek.  Not quite the balance of 1 when viewed in profile but shown in good coat and hard condition, would prefer more length of leg.

3. Pike/Carter’s Bel NL Ch Lux Ch It Ir Ch. Breezelyn Ear Sumut Special.

1. Johns’ Alepenkye Raya Mykeeper. Very well balanced bitch and a good prospect at 6 months old, shown in full coat and good condition, still with some knuckle which hopefully will deliver a little more leg length but balanced and absolutely sound on the move, BP.

1. Sarantos’ Blacktide Another Star. Just preferred the overall balance of 1, moderate angulation, strong top-line, correct bone, absolutely sound parallel gait, BB.

2. Johns’ Breezelyn Ears A Top Tip at Alepenkye. Nice feminine head, balanced angulation, sound on the move, I would prefer a little more length of leg.

3. Wolf’s Arkosligeti Kocos Hajnal.

1. Johns’ Int Ch It/Lux/Bel/Ned/Ir Ch. Breezelyn Ears A Break. Not a strong class but this particular bitch took it on her sound movement, good head, keen dark eye, a little bit short in leg but in profile absolutely sound on the move, RBB.

2. Sarantos’ Schnauben Capella Star with Blacktide. Nice head and expression, sound on the move but slack in top-line on the day but shown in good coat and well handled and presented.

3. Smee/Coleman’s Ir Ch. Ceridwen Pumida Schnaubern (imp CZE).

1. Taylor’s Ch. Bymil Back To Blue. 10 year old veteran bitch, feminine head and expression, correct head proportions, well set neck on powerful shoulders, level top-line, good feet, absolutely sound on the move, BV.

1. Irving’s Twinan Dragon Rider. Masculine head and expression, lovely dark eye, correct stop, well set ears, correct front, good underjaw, strong top-line, good bone, correct feet, absolutely sound on the move, lovely example of the breed, BD, BP & BOB.

2. Pike/Carter’s Tamlin Double Dunked at Breezelyn. 8 month old male who needs a little more in leg but good balanced angulation, correct neck, powerful shoulders, good feet, strong top-line, correct tail set and carriage, could well mature to advantage, RBD.

3. Taylor’s Tamlin The Big Easy.

1. Jordan’s Gowerston Gunsmoke with Jakovall. 8 month old male, strong head, correct ears, nice feet, good ground clearance but very close behind at this stage on the out and back and also on the stand, more condition could help this.

1. Lee’s Analog CC I Like It Like That for Amenbury (imp NOR). Correct head, well set large ears, good stop, powerful shoulders, well angulated, level top-line but viewed from behind a somewhat stilted movement.

OD 2(0)

1. Irving’s Twinan True Grit JW. Lovely head and expression, plenty of ground clearance, quite long in the back but I preferred his rear movement when viewed from behind, good bone, good feet and correct pasterns, 

2. Taylor/Michal’s Pol Ch Ch Dom Corgi Easy Boost (imp POL). Lovely male, strong head, well set ears, good top-line, correct bone but somewhat untidy behind on the out and back.

1. Lee’s Analog CC Tootsie Roll for Amenbury (imp NOR).  I preferred the overall balance of 1 on the day but at 6 months it is very early! Good overall balance and proportions, absolutely sound on the move particularly on the out and back and impressive in profile, nice prospect. 

2. Taylor’s Tamlin Easy Choice. A lovely feminine head and expression, moderate angulation fore and aft but struggled a little to hold the extra length in back on the day.

1. Taylor’s Tamlin Mom’s Rum Cake. Very nice 8 month old bitch and when the remaining ‘knuckle’ ‘delivers’ she will have even better balance fore and aft, nice feminine head and expression, well angulated, good forechest, level top-line, sound on the move.

1. Loken/Sonberg’s Analog CC I See Fire. Lovely head and expression, nice dark eye, good forechest, excellent angulation and moved to advantage in profile, strong top-line, correct croup, tail set and carriage, BB.

2. Down’s Elessar Eclipse The Stars JW. Another nice bitch, also balanced fore and aft, I preferred the head of 1 but this bitch has much to commend her and is absolutely sound on the move, RBB.

3. Taylor’s Coriend Went Blue for Bymil.
