Basset Fauve de Bretagne Club championship show

Saturday 28th February 2026

I would like to thank the officers & committee for the honour of judging their club show & thanks to the exhibitors for their entries.

Hand on heart, I cannot say it was one of the easiest judges’ appointments I have undertaken, type is very varied & movement on a lot of the hounds left a lot to be desired – perhaps the indoor venue did not help some hounds. I was amazed at the number of hounds that had very overgrown nails, I know some breeds can be a nightmare to cut nails (I’ve had PBGV!) but it really does spoil the picture when your hound has splayed feet through long nails.

Puppy Dog (1,0)

1ST Allenby’s – Revenite Sergeant Wilson for Rangali. Beautiful head, eye & expression on this 9-month-old boy. He has a good neck & clean shoulder, good front & feet, excellent topline, good depth of chest for age, strong loin & super quarters. He still needs to tighten all through, but his movement was good out & back & strode out well. RDCC, BPD & BPIS.

Junior Dog (2,1)

1ST Leech’s – Mochras Mahlord Rupert. 14 months old, good head with mischievous expression from well-shaped eye, good leathers. Excellent neck & shoulder, pleasing front with good bone & feet. Excellent topline, good depth of chest & ribbing, strong quarters with excellent muscletone. He moved freely with a good stride.

Post Graduate Dog (1,0)

1ST Thornton’s – Mochras Marmion. Lovely type, he has a super head, eye & expression, well set leathers with good curl. Good neck & shoulder, pleasing front, super topline, good depth & breadth. Strong loin & good quarters, he moved out well but didn’t have the reach of stride I was looking for. He was also carrying a little too much weight.

Open Dog (3,0)

1ST Robertson’s – Ch. Dyfrgi’s Explosion W with Soletrader. What a showman! This mature male has the most exquisite head & expression, super neck into clean well laid shoulder, straight well boned front, tight feet & short nails! Super topline, underline, depth of chest & spring of rib, he is well ribbed back to strong loin & he is of moderate length. His quarters were so well made & very well-muscled which allowed him to power round the ring with a sound & accurate stride. Shown in gleaming coat & conditioning, I was delighted to award him the DCC & BIS. I believe this award gave him the DCC record – many congratulations.

2ND Flemming’s – IrCh. Blevwil Zuma. Super dark eye giving a kind expression, good head shape & well-set leathers. He is good through the forehand, has good depth of chest & spring of rib, level topline & good loin. Excellent hindquarters allowed him to move out well with a good stride.

3RD Jones’ – Laserna’s Greatest Show Man.

Veteran Dog (2,0)

A super class!

1ST Allenby’s – Ch. Rangali Tigger. I judged this boy at one of his first shows & gave him BIS & BPIS, now at nearly 10 years old my opinion of him hasn’t changed. He has the most beautiful head, eye & expression, excellent neck & shoulder into straight well boned front with good feet. He has a super depth of chest with good spring, level topline, strong loin into excellent quarters. Good tailset, carried well on the move & boy can he move, perhaps a little too exuberant in the small hall he was sound & true & was shown in excellent fettle. BVD & BVIS.

2ND Leech’s – Ch/IrCh. Gavelkind Conquistador by Jamchala. Grand old man of 10.5, he has a beautiful eye & expression. Very best of fronts with lovely bone & tidy feet, super neck & shoulder & good through the body. Strong, level topline, excellent tailset & curvy quarters which were well-muscled. He moved soundly out & back with a good stride in profile, in excellent coat he was just carrying a little too much condition which edged the class in the winner’s favour.

Baby Puppy Dog or Bitch (3,1)

Litter brother & sister & what quality babies of 5 months old.

1ST Arrell’s – Blevwil Noah Lott for Heaphen. This boy stole my heart with his exquisite head & expression, he has a good neck, super front & well-made quarters. He is a little “bum high” at present, but he moved out well with a good stride & a little joie de vie.

2ND Blevins’ – Blevwil Kerry Oki. Pretty girl with a kind eye & expression, she too has a super forehand, is good through the body & has lovely quarters, she moved out very well.

 Puppy Bitch (2,0)

1ST Stevenson-Bramley’s - Revenite Mrs Fox. 9-month-old girl, pretty head with kind dark eye, excellent neck & shoulder into super front with good bone & feet. Excellent topline, good depth of chest for age, good ribbing loin & quarters. In profile she moved with a good stride, pushed her brother close in the challenge for BP but she was just moving a little close behind.

2ND Horn’s - Mochras Mahqueen. Pretty girl, kind eye & expression. Good neck & forehand, good though the body & quarters, she is a little “bum high” at present, at 8 months old she has plenty of time to settle into herself. Shown in good coat & condition she moved out well.

Junior Bitch (1,0)

1ST Blevins’ - Blevwil Anita Hug. 13-month-old lady, pretty head & dark eye, good neck & shoulder into good front, neat feet, good depth of chest, good loin, level topline & excellent quarters. She moved out well, but I’d prefer more reach in front.

Post Graduate Bitch (2,0)

1ST Allenby’s – Rangali Heihei. Pleasing head, although I would prefer a darker eye, good forehand, well boned front, super topline & quarters. Her coat was good, but I would prefer a little more conditioning & shorter nails. She moved out well.

2ND Thornton’s – Mochras Marceline. Pretty head, eye & expression, good through the neck & shoulder, I would prefer her to be a little tidier in front. Excellent topline, body & quarters, she moved with a good stride.

Limit Bitch (3,1)

1ST Blevins’ - Blevwil Rose Again. Pretty head, with dark expressive eye, good neck & clean shoulder into straight well boned front with neat feet. Super topline, good depth of chest & spring of rib, well made & muscled quarters which she used to full advantage on the move. Shown in good jacket & conditioning, she pulled out the stops in the challenge to take the RBCC.

2ND Horn & Betty’s – Mochras Mahjesty. Pleasing head & expression, good neck & shoulder, pleasing front, feet a little splayed & she would benefit from a pedicure. Good topline, body & quarters, she moved out well in profile & was shown in good coat.

Open Bitch (2,0)

1ST Leech & Thornton’s – Ch. Mochras Mahgaux. Exquisite head & eye with a wicked glint to draw you in, she is well balanced all through & throws a lovely outline. Good neck into clean, well laid shoulder, straight well boned front, excellent topline, good depth of chest & well ribbed back to strong loin. Good set on of stern & curvy quarters with super muscletone, she is sound & true out & back with a free reaching stride in profile. Add to this a clean jacket of good texture & excellent conditioning she presented an eye-catching picture which ultimatly gave her the BCC & RBIS.

2ND Allenby’s – Ch. Rangali Pixie. Pretty girl with a kind eye & expression, well set leathers, excellent neck & shoulder into straight well boned front with neat feet. She has a good depth of chest, good ribbing & loin, level topline & well made & muscled quarters. She was sound out & back but did not like the flooring & would not move out to allow me to assess her profile movement. Such a shame as she really is a lovely girl, who was shown in super coat & conditioning by her clever breeder.

Veteran Bitch (3,1)

1ST Leech & Thornton’s – Ch. Mochras Mahcushla. Beautiful head, eye & expression on this 7.5-year-old lady, she has a super forehand, good body shape, holds her topline well, good tailset & has excellent hindquarters. On the move she is sound & true with a super profile stride, shown in excellent jacket & body conditioning.

2ND Humphrey’s – Blevwil Kept Me Secret for Gloynbyw. Kind dark eye on this 10-year-old lady, she has a good neck & shoulder into ok front, level topline, good underline & quarters. She moved out happily.

RKC Good Citizen Dog Scheme Bitch (2,0)

1ST Leech’s - Mochras Mahmalade by Jamchala. Another lovely girl from this clever breeder. She has a lovely, shaped head, with a kind eye & expression, low set leathers with gentle fold. Excellent neck & shoulder into good front, super topline, depth of chest & spring of rib. She is well ribbed back to strong loin & has super quarters. Shown in gleaming coat & conditioning, she moved very well in profile with an excellent stride but was a tad close behind.

2ND Blevwil Kept Me Secret for Gloynbyw.
