Gundog Society Of Wales

Breed: Retriever (Golden)
Golden Retriever Bitches Gundog Society Of Wales Wednesday, 14th October 2026 It was a tremendous honour to award CC’s for the first time in my own breed, which has been such an important part of my life for many years. My sincere thanks to everyone who entered. I was delighted with all my principal winners and with the overall depth of quality today. However, I was surprised by the number of very tight bites in the lower classes, also there were several exhibits with incorrectly shaped feet and some with a lighter eye. The spacious ring had a concrete floor that proved ideal for assessing movement. Several classes were strong, with a special mention to the Mid Limit class which was especially strong. My final shortlist of four came from the Post Graduate, Mid Limit, Open and Champion classes. Special thanks to my two highly professional stewards, Maz Stokes and Marion Sargent. Minor Puppy Bitch Entries: 9 Absentees: 2 1st Rosinante Mamma Mia (Mrs S E Russell-Bond): An impressive clean outline with a good length of neck. I liked her size and balance. She has a very attractive sweet head with a dark-brown eye, straight forelegs with good bone. Well angulated throughout, with plenty of dog in front of the elbows, she held a firm topline standing and moving. She moved steadily, carrying her constantly wagging tail correctly. 2nd Altindan Xantara (Miss A E Taggart): Currently not as together as the winner, but full of breed type. A pleasing size, with another attractive head, correctly shaped and coloured eye, strong clean neck. A well-angled front and moderate rear angulation. She moved well and carried a light-gold coat. 3rd Solwynhart Nanjizalbay of Warrentor (Miss K Clunie) RES Linirgor Mon Amie avec Millanza (Ms B Angell) VHC Strettonhills Tickled Pink (Miss C & Mr M Taylor & Tenn) Puppy Bitch Entries: 11 Absentees: 2 1st Amilone You’re Still The One (Mrs R Woolley): Her movement set her apart in this class. Although not in her best coat, she was a comfortable winner, a quality bitch full of breed type, should have a bright future. Symmetrical in profile, with excellent front angulation balanced by the rear angulation, very good bone and cat-like feet. Has an attractive well-worked head with a broad, deep muzzle and correctly shaped and coloured eye. Best Puppy Bitch. 2nd Maddouse Just Trouble (Mrs S & Mr I Phipps-Baker & Baker): A very appealing bitch who ticked a lot of boxes. Well-presented cream coat, she had a pleasing shape, though her profile is not currently as free flowing as the winner’s. A gorgeous, balanced and well-chiselled head, broad deep muzzle, dark-brown eye and kindly expression. Well-boned straight forelegs, cat-like feet, a strong clean neck, well-laid shoulders and elbows well under the body, balanced rear angulation and steady movement. 3rd Double Willow Miramar in Siagar (Mrs G Gargan) RES 629 - Wemcrest Hocus Pocus (Mrs J & Mr R Chan) VHC 633 - Solwynhart Nanjizalbay of Warrentor (Miss K Clunie) Junior Bitch Entries: 15 Absentees: 3 A strong class, although several exhibits that impressed when stacked lost out on movement. 1st Laurenley Lady Sybil (Mrs Ward): She caught my eye on the first circuit and did not disappoint on closer examination. A quality bitch with a promising future and winner of three classes today. At times she was hard work for her handler, but her quality was clear to see. Presented in a light-gold coat, full of substance and breed type. An attractive balanced head, correctly shaped and coloured eye, strong clean neck, well-developed chest and elbows well under the body. A level topline, broad second thigh, good bend of stifle and straight rear pasterns. She moved with reach and drive, carrying her tail level. I shall watch her future with interest. 2nd Siatham Esmerelda (Mrs A E Falconer): Another lovely clean outline, though I preferred the winner’s substance and expression. Feminine head, straight forelegs with good bone, balanced front and rear angulation, good bend of stifle and straight hocks. A steady mover. 3rd Bluebraes Voyager JW (Mrs W & Miss K Mcfarlane) RES Saffdales Countess Cora (Mrs R Mccammick) VHC Haydengold Moments of Magic at Alfiro (Mrs F Smithies) Yearling Bitch Entries: 9 Absentees: 1 1st Thornywait Yu Had Me at Hello (Mrs S M Zubair): An eye-catching clean outline with pleasing size and substance, presented in a cream coat. A beautifully balanced profile with a very sweet head, correctly shaped and coloured eye. Straight, well-boned forelegs, round cat-like feet, good neck length and balanced front and rear angulation. Her steady movement showed good reach and drive. Liked her a lot. 2nd Haydengold Latest Gossip JW (Ms L List): Another quality bitch with much to admire, though less settled than the winner, gave her handler a hard time especially on the move. I loved her balanced profile, attractive cream coat. A well-moulded head, broad deep muzzle and correctly shaped and coloured eye. Excellent front construction, with a good neck flowing into well-laid shoulders and a matching upper arm that placed the elbows well under the body, balanced by a broad second thigh and good bend of stifle, but too unsettled today. 3rd Saffdales Countess Cora (Mrs R Mccammick) RES Genvamor Penny to My Name (Mrs T Garbitt) VHC Sunnyoak String of Pearls (Mrs J M & Mr M P Clarke) Graduate Bitch Entries: 7 Absentees: 3 1st Olvinglay Charisma (Mr G Monteverde): Her balanced profile and well-presented cream coat impressed immediately. Balanced in profile but appeared less mature in body. A textbook front when viewed straight on, lovely balanced head, broad deep muzzle and correctly shaped and coloured eye. A very steady mover. 3rd Rosinante Here We Go Again JW (Mrs S E Russell-Bond) RES Shearstone Hasta La Vista JW (Mrs M A & Miss S Porter) Post Graduate Bitch Entries: 14 Absentees: 5 Movement was disappointing in several exhibits in this class. 1st Linirgor Adeline at Treeveville JW (Mrs D A Youngson): A highly impressive exhibit. She stood naturally fore-square and had a gorgeous balanced head, powerful muzzle, correctly shaped eye. A textbook front with good bone, well-sprung ribs, short coupling and excellent balance between front and rear angulation. Her level topline remained firm as she flowed around the ring with reach & drive with correct tail carriage. A top-quality bitch. 2nd Rooksbury Aurora (Mrs L P Cole): An appealing outline, though not as clean in profile as the winner. An exhibit where you need hands on to fully appreciate her quality. CC Winner. 2nd Balsamina Bellini JW (Miss A & Mrs T Ives): A favourite of mine and, to me, displays the perfect example of a kindly expression. Not the biggest but balanced throughout with a good body-to-leg ratio. Her free movement reflected her sound construction and angulation.
