Scottish Kennel Club, Saturday 16th May 2026 Critiques.
I would like to thank Scottish Kennel Club for their kind invitation to judge at their show, also a big thank you to my two stewards who helped keep the ring moving so efficiently. My first ticket appointment and I thoroughly enjoyed my day and had some lovely dogs to judge, so a big thank you to all exhibitors allowing me to judge their dogs; being second in the ring I appreciate it can be a long day so I was very pleased with my entry. I did notice there were a few incorrect bites and these did reflect in my placings.

1ST Lamesbella Maine of Daicheil (Mr A & Mrs A Laird) 11 months old, he was up to size but all was in proportion. Masculine head with good length of muzzle and a gradual stop into flat skull, dark almond shaped eye and well set on ears. Moderate angulation both fore and aft with correct length of rib and short couplings. Moved well at a steady pace with straight and true movement which won him the class.
2ND Flatcharm Hobgoblin at Tarnmillcrag (Mr J & Mrs R Pierce) Another lovely youngster, typical one piece head with dark eye and small neat ears. Well laid back shoulder and correct length of rib with gradual spring and short square loin, just needing to strengthen in the rear but will come with time, correct bone and small neat feet. Presented in lovely coat and condition.

Moderate angulation fore and aft, pronounced forechest with correct depth and gradual spring of rib and short couplings. Muscled rear quarters with good width of second thigh and well let down hocks. Not in his best coat today but didn’t detract from his overall moderation and balanced outline.
2ND Thurwhitt Black Jack at Torrweaving (Mrs A & Mr Jr Mcconnell) Masculine head with blunt muzzle which was of the correct depth, dark eye and well set on ears, correct length of neck leading into a strong top line. 1ST Gemswin Innocent Man JW (Mrs S, Mrs G & Mr M Knight & Jacobs) I judged this boy as a puppy and I am pleased to see he is reaching his potential. His body is well ribbed up with good depth and gradual spring into a short loin. Well muscled moderate rear angulation with good width of thigh. Super bone and standing on well arched neat feet. This was a lovely trio of young ladies, and it was very hard to choose between them.
1ST Hototo’s Edge of Glory (Miss C J Chambers) What a super puppy this girl was, she had the look at me attitude and flowed around the ring with such presence, balanced all through, pretty feminine one piece head with kind dark eye, well laid back shoulder with equal return of upper arm, correct gradual spring of rib and short square loin, moderate rear quarters with good width of second thigh, which helped to power her around the ring, will watch her with interest. BP and pleased to see her shortlisted in a lovely puppy group.
2ND Levliann Tit for Tat (Mrs L Varty-Lindsay) Another lovely puppy with many of the same attributes of the winner, sweetest of feminine heads, small well set on ears, moderate angulation both fore and aft, correct length through the body and short couplings, well let down hocks and small round feet, held a level topline on the move. 1ST Hototo Pretty Ballerina JW (Miss C J Chambers) I loved this bitches size and moderation, there is no exaggeration and everything is in proportion, a real showgirl who owned the ring. Feminine moulded head, with correct filling and dark almond shaped eye with twinkling expression, clean through the neck into shoulders that were well laid back and equal return of upper arm, elbows were tight to her foreribs which were flat leading into the correct gradual spring of rib which gave her her length of body and a short square loin, rear angulation was correct with equal lengths from hip bone, to stifle, to top of the hock, well let down hocks and neat round feet, she was in lovely coat and condition and she moved effortlessly, pleased to award her the BCC.
2ND Rydanah Devils in The Detail (Mrs J Holmes) Another typical bitch of medium size, beautiful moulded one piece head with dark eye and small well set on ears, moderate front and rear angulation, with correct depth and length of rib and short square loin, well let down hocks, good feet and adequate bone. 1ST Hameldowntor Music of The Night VW (Mr A J Wilson) At nearly 10 years old this girl belies her age, she was fit and presented in lovely condition. Typical feminine head with kind dark eye, small neat ears which were well set on. Flowed through her neck into well laid back shoulder and equal return of upper arm, pronounced forecest and good breadth of chest, with gradual spring of rib and correct couplings, a strong backend with good width of thigh helped her to move straight and true and she did not stop showing. Thrilled to watch her take Veteran Group 2.
2ND Westoncruive Black Aurora (Mrs J Grant) Another lovely young lady with many of the same attributes of the class winner. Pretty head with dark almond shaped eye and well set on ear, well laid back shoulder although carrying a bit of extra weight across her shoulders, lovely length and depth of rib, moderate rear angulation and well let down hocks, would prefer tighter feet. Good coat and condition, moved well.

2ND Thrillerbark Dalbeg (Miss C Riach) 19 month old bitch, well moulded head with dark eye and neat ears, correct length of neck into moderate front angulation, needs to develop in her chest but this will come with age, slightly longer in stifle and well let down hocks, good coat and condition, I just preferred the movement of the winner today.
