Veteran Group

Judge Roger Perkins

This was a veteran group that was understandably full of quality and as a result, some super examples of the respective breeds did not make the short list let alone the final four. Included in my short list were the Labrador Retriever Sh Ch Carriegame Moonshine, Welsh Springer Spaniel Sh Ch Glenbrows Revolution, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Ir Sh Ch Eusanit Proper Job and the Chesapeake Bay Retriever Sh Ch/int/multi Ch Arnac Bay Hebe who all unfortunately missed out today on the top four, but on another day things could change.

My group winner was the Pointer, Sh Ch Chesterhope C'mon over to Carmandine (Imp Nzl) JW (Mrs M & Mrs C Gerrard & Bell) whom I have judged before and she has certainly matured well. Such a super type and shape and has the graceful curves required for this breed. Correct size, very feminine head with good length of foreface, well set on ears with thin leathers. Long clean neck into well angled front assembly. Standing on oval shaped feet, sloping pasterns, depth to her chest, ribs carried well back into a strong loin and correct tailset. Firm shapely hindquarters with well turned stifles. On the move she just flowed around the ring with a smooth action covering plenty of ground using her tail and true from all angles.

Group 2 went to the Gordon Setter Am/int Ch/Sh Ch Carnoustie Let The Game Begin (ai) (Imp Aus) (Mr J & Mrs R & Mrs S Newton & Cornum & Timmermann a dog full of breed type, masculine balanced head with kind expression, straight forelegs with strong pasterns, strong muscular neck onto well laid back shoulders. Back level and well muscled, good rear angulation with hocks well let down. Moved effortlessly around the ring covering the ground. Shown in excellent coat and condition.

Group 3 to the German Wirehaired Pointer Sh Ch/bel Ch Glenquin Athena, (Mr P, Mrs L & Miss N Johnston) – I liked the overall balance of this dog, masculine head with the required furnishings, straight forelegs with well laid back shoulders, good spring of ribs, broad hips, well muscled thighs and enough turn to his stifle. His coat was harsh in texture with the required dense undercoat. Moved true front and rear, using his hindquarters to cover plenty of ground.

Group 4 to Hungarian Vizsla Sh Ch Danton Obsession with Tantaraviz ShCEx, (Miss C M Ward)– Another I have had the pleasure of judging before and again today she did not disappoint. Loved her overall shape, feminine head with kind expression, well constructed front, standing on straight forelegs, neat cat like feet and strong pasterns, depth to her chest, well sprung ribs and level topline. Moved effortlessly with good reach and drive and true coming and going.
