Breed: Bedlington Terrier

My thanks to the officers and committee for the invitation to judge Bedlington Terriers and to the exhibitors for their sporting acceptance of my decisions. Also, many thanks to my efficient ring stewards today. Overall, I found a pleasing depth of quality throughout the entry, with many exhibits displaying correct breed type, excellent temperaments and the characteristic outline of the breed. Coat texture was generally softer than I would ideally like in a number of exhibits, but presentation standards were high and judging these classes was an enjoyable experience.

MPD:1. Janmark Born of Bjorn at Kiltdale (Mrs G, Miss G & Miss H De'Lara)

Blue male, mature enough for six months but doesn’t want to grow on. Possesses a strong, well-balanced head with a clean scissor bite and dark, correctly shaped eye. Thin ears and a good overall outline. Well angulated both fore and aft with a promising body shape. Still somewhat loose in movement, as expected at this age, and would benefit from a little more time to develop and settle.

PD: 1. Terriwest Shaken An Stirred (Miss S L Westwood)

Blue male of good size and overall balance. Well-shaped head with strong foreface and correct bite. Good eye and thin ears. Nicely carried neck flowing into well-laid shoulders. Soundly angulated throughout and maintained his topline on the move. Moved steadily to take the class.

2. Bizzibeddies Joyeux Noel (Mrs E & Mr R Jackson)

Attractive dog with a good quality coat and much to admire overall. Close decision, but lost out today to the winner on movement and maintenance of topline when moving.

JD: 1. Bizzibeddies Joyeux Noel (Mrs E & Mr R Jackson)

2. Mickleview Fly High at Yarbach (Mrs L Butler)

Nicely sized blue male with a coat of good colour and texture. On examination he possesses many of the attributes required and there is much promise here. Unfortunately, he was unsettled both standing and on the move, making it difficult to fully assess his movement. One to watch as he matures and gains confidence.

PGD:1. Mickleview Fly High at Yarbach (Mrs L Butler)

LD:1. Amifidele Hashtag Hipster (Mrs H A Scott)

Blue male of good size and balance. Pleasing head with correct bite and good length of neck. Well laid shoulders and a deep, flat chest. Moved soundly enough but carried his tail rather high on the move, which detracted from his otherwise pleasing outline.

2. Rhicullen Blue Knight JW (Mr N & Mrs N A Jackson)

Slightly larger blue male than the winner. Good textured coat and a well-developed, deep chest. Lost ground in the class as he flattened somewhat in topline while moving, allowing the winner to take the class.

OD:. 1. Ch Sharnor Sultan of Spica JW (Mrs J & Mrs C Fletcher)

This dog really impressed me on the day. Blue male who perhaps does not initially catch the eye to the extent of the second-placed dog, but on closer examination has so much breed quality. Excellent head with strong foreface, deep-set eye and well-shaped filbert ears. Good length of neck leading into well-angulated shoulders. Correct proportions with ideal length-to-height ratio and the graceful outline characteristic of the breed. What secured the class and ultimately the CC was his true, steady movement, maintaining shape and topline whilst moving with sufficient drive and purpose. Nicely presented and handled. DCC

2. Ch Conekesheved Out of The Blue JW (Mr J & Mrs L McNally)

When this dog entered the ring, I genuinely thought he might be my eventual winner. A dog of tremendous quality throughout. Excellent head properties with clean bite, thin ears and a superb length of neck flowing into beautifully constructed shoulders. Coat texture and colour were first-class and presentation was immaculate. Unfortunately, on this occasion he did not move with drive or purpose. He improved in the challenge but not sufficiently to overturn my decision for top honours. Nevertheless, a dog of considerable merit. RCC

VD:. 1. Ch/Ir Ch Rhicullen Rennie Mac (Mrs J Gillies)

Seven-year-old blue male who continues to display excellent breed quality. Good head and strong bite, well angulated front and rear, and a pleasing deep, flat chest. Moved soundly and maintained a good topline. A credit to his owner.

2. Honeymist Posh Peanuts at Chancete (Mr J D Neville)

Nicely sized dog of a lighter build than the winner. Today tended to stand rather tucked-up, which affected his overall picture, although he moved better than he stood.

SB:. 1. Janmark Born of Bjorn at Kiltdale (Mrs G, Miss G & Miss H De'Lara)

2. Rhicullen Twinkling Star at Kiltdale (Ms G, Miss G & Miss H De'Lara)

Liver bitch of good size with a lovely feminine expression and beautiful hazel eyes. Nice length of neck flowing into well-angulated shoulders. Deep, flat chest and pleasing body shape. Coat somewhat soft in texture, although this was a trait seen in a number of exhibits today. Nicely handled and should continue to improve with maturity.

MPB: 1. Notice Snowanna Rainbeau by Tessarion (Imp Swe) (Mrs J & Mr R Lowe)

Bitch of correct size displaying much promise. Lovely head with a soft expression, correct bite, deep-set eyes and thin ears. Nicely balanced with a good length of neck, sound angulation fore and aft, and pleasing length of loin. Standing topline was excellent, though she lost a little of it on the move. Coat slightly soft at present. One that should improve considerably with maturity.

PB: A particularly pleasing class.

1. Maevani Huntress of Spica (Ms J Fletcher)

Blue bitch with considerable quality throughout. Excellent size and proportions with correct length-to-height ratio. Good bite, pleasing head length and well-carried ears. Strong neck flowing into well-angulated shoulders, deep flat chest and lovely length of loin. Coat slightly soft in texture but moved with confidence, purpose and balance, showing herself extremely well. Presented and handled beautifully. Worthy Best Puppy and very close consideration for the Reserve CC.

2. Notice Queen's Gambit at Conekesheved (Imp Swe) (Mr J & Mrs L McNally)

Attractive blue bitch of correct size with much to admire. Coat texture better than the winner on the day, but the positive, purposeful movement of the first-placed bitch ultimately proved decisive. Another that should have a bright future.

JB: 1. Rhicullen Twinkling Star at Kiltdale (Ms G, Miss G & Miss H De'Lara)

Attractive liver bitch of pleasing size and overall balance. Feminine throughout with a lovely soft expression and beautiful hazel eyes. Good length of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, with a deep, flat chest and pleasing body shape. Moved soundly and carried herself well, showing enough quality and breed type to head the class. Nicely handled and presented and should continue to improve as she matures.

PGB: 1. Silverkinn Time for Tea Rose (Mrs H A Scott)

Blue bitch of acceptable size with a clean, well-balanced head and strong, correct bite. Good length of neck flowing into well-constructed shoulders. Deep, flat chest and sound angulation throughout. Moved freely and efficiently, maintaining her topline well on the move. A balanced and honest exhibit that made the most of her virtues.

LB: 1. Rocabec Sparks Fly (Mr & Mrs P Cumming)

A blue bitch who immediately commanded attention on entering the ring and never put a foot wrong. Excellent for size and possessing the correct length-to-height ratio so essential to the breed. Super clean head with a strong, correct bite and lovely expression. Long, elegant neck flowing into well-laid, sloping shoulders and a deep, flat chest. Well-arched loin of good length leading to a strong, well-angulated rear assembly. She stood beautifully, displaying the graceful outline called for in the standard, and moved with drive, purpose and excellent balance, maintaining her shape throughout. Presented and handled to perfection. A very worthy CC winner and Best of Breed.

2. Devleigh Four Leaf (Mrs C R & Mr M W Moore & Chudleigh)

Blue bitch of good size with an exceptionally good coat for both texture and colour, arguably among the best coats in the entry on the day. A bitch of considerable merit with much to admire in overall construction and breed type. However, she could not match the ring presence, style and graceful carriage of the winner, which ultimately decided the class.

OB: 1. Ch Fralex Culibre Jacquetta JW (Mr P & Mrs L Ellis)

Blue bitch of pleasing size and balance. Clean head with correct bite, deep-set eye and thin, well-carried ears. Good length of neck flowing into well-angulated shoulders, with a deep, flat chest and sound construction throughout. Well angulated both fore and aft and moved freely while maintaining her overall shape. Nicely presented and shown to advantage.

2. Ch Honeymist Dazzle Me (Miss L Martin)

An attractive blue bitch who presented an impressive picture when standing in the lineup. Possesses much breed quality and was expertly presented. Unfortunately, she was not fully settled on the move today and, as with a few exhibits in the entry, this affected her performance and ultimately cost her the class.

VB: 1. Ch Chaselyne About Thyme (Mrs P J Bishop)

Although alone in the class, she fully deserved her placing and subsequent Reserve CC. A lovely blue bitch of excellent size, displaying so many of the hallmarks of the breed. Clean, well-proportioned head with a correct bite and good dark eye. Elegant neck flowing into nicely sloping shoulders, with sound angulation throughout. Moved well with the characteristic light, springy Bedlington gait and maintained her outline throughout. Beautifully handled and presented in excellent condition, a real credit to her owner and a worthy Reserve CC winner.
