My sincere thanks to the officers and committee for the invitation to judge Lancashire Heelers. We were faced with exceptionally warm conditions throughout the day, but both exhibitors and dogs coped admirably and maintained their enthusiasm and happy outlook. My decisions were accepted in an excellent sporting manner, something I have always found within this breed. Lancashire Heelers have a wonderful community spirit and it made for a thoroughly enjoyable appointment. Overall, I found good breed type with several quality exhibits and was particularly pleased to see sound, workmanlike dogs that demonstrated the breed’s ability to remain truly fit for function.
Puppy Dog (3, 0)
A tough class of puppies at varying stages of development.
1st Grant-Parkes’ Parabar Popgun’s Podolkhi.
8 months. Just a little more together than his classmates at present. Well balanced throughout with pleasing proportions, correct head and skull, and carrying the longer outer coat expected at this age. Moved with an easy, positive profile gait and showed plenty of promise. Best Puppy Dog.
2nd Fairest’s Skipest Last Of The Mojitos. 8 months. Another promising youngster with an attractive masculine head and keen expression. Pleasing outline and profile. Still needs to tighten through his pasterns and develop in front, but time is very much on his side and he has the potential to become an outstanding adult.
3rd Ellis & Ellis’ Melle Meindert Se Distinguer. 6 months. Liver and tan youngster with a lovely make and shape and certainly worthy of a critique. Like the second, still developing through the front, which should improve with maturity. One to watch.
Junior Dog (1, 0)
1st Dawes’ Ribblespride Don Pedro Of Daweslean. 17 months. Stood alone but fully deserved his placing. Lovely disposition with pleasing make and shape, keen expression and tidy feet. Well balanced overall and covered the ground well, particularly in profile, moving steadily coming and going.
Post Graduate Dog (2, 0)
1st Jones’ Mea Miracles Beorn Ragnar Of Barleydust (Imp Fin).
18 months. Well balanced dog with pleasing proportions. A little ‘10 to 2’ in front when standing naturally, but nicely angulated behind, carrying good muscle tone and presented in a harsh jacket. Moved freely in profile to win the class.
2nd Homer’s Barleydust Noel Fox. 2½ years. More masculine than 1 but just a touch straighter in stifle. Pleasing overall make and shape with many virtues, although not quite as tidy behind as the winner on the day.
Limit Dog (3, 0)
1st Webb’s Foveaux Magic Dance JW. 21 months.
Super little dog who immediately appealed for his balance, proportions and breed type. Masculine head with a keen expression, dark eye, good muzzle and dentition. Correct shoulders, topline and coat texture, presented in excellent muscular condition. Moved soundly both in profile and coming and going, giving a definite impression of being completely fit for function. A worthy DCC & BOB.
2nd Hancocks & Bailey’s Parabar Pistachio.
23 months. Liver and tan. Another quality dog with good bone, well muscled body and masculine head and expression. Well bodied and moved freely in profile. A pleasing exhibit with much to admire.
3rd Thomas & Thomas’ Skipest Winter Blues.
Open Dog (5, 2)
1st Thwaite & Thwaite’s Ch Ribblespride Crakemoor.
6½ years. Balanced throughout with attractive head, ears and keen expression. Well bodied with good shoulders, rib and topline, correct front and rear angulation and positive drive. Moved particularly well in profile. RDCC.
2nd Grant-Parkes’ Parabar Posy’s Pawnee JW.
2½ years. Not quite the front assembly or shoulder placement of 1, but there was much to like. Lovely head and expression, pleasing outline both standing and on the move, making this a close decision.
3rd Dawes’ Leyeside Mister Wilds At Daweslean.
Veteran Dog (1, 0)
Merrells’ Taigwynion Ewart James.
9½ years. Masculine head with a keen expression. Pleasing overall balance, maintaining good muscle tone for his age with good bone and a harsh jacket. Moved with an easy profile gait.
Puppy Bitch (1, 0)
1st Jones’ Barleydust Dare To Dream.
8 months. Feminine head with a lovely expression, smart outline and pleasing balance throughout. Moved well in profile and just needs to strengthen behind as she matures. A promising youngster and pleased to award BPIB.
Junior Bitch (2, 0)
Two promising youngsters who could easily change places on another day.
1st Felstead’s Oreiphos Ease My Heart At Foveaux.
16 months. Feminine, balanced head with lovely expression and ears. Pleasing make and shape with good muscle tone and easy movement in profile, holding her topline well. Still maturing but has plenty of potential.
2nd Ellis’ Fragarialea Little Scarlet.
13 months. Many of the winner’s virtues but just a touch finer in bone and didn’t always use her ears to best advantage. Moved well when concentrating and has a promising future.
Post Graduate Bitch (3, 0)
1st Felstead’s Oreiphos Ease My Heart At Foveaux.
Previously critiqued.
2nd Grant-Parkes’ Parabar Pelatory’s Pichu.
19 months. Attractive feminine head and expression. Didn’t quite hold her topline as well as the winner today but has pleasing overall balance and moved with an easy profile gait.
3rd Cutler’s Lankeela Fly Me To The Moon.
Limit Bitch (7, 0)
A quality class. Unfortunately, a few exhibits made life difficult for their handlers today and were unable to show themselves to best advantage, which inevitably influenced the final placings.
1st Felstead’s Oreiphos Ease My Heart At Foveaux.
Previously critiqued.
2nd Fairest’s Skipest Summer Breeze.
3½ years. Feminine head and expression with pleasing balance and proportions. Excellent harsh coat and moved freely, and soundly in profile.
3rd Jones’ Mahogany Dawn Of Barleydust.
Open Bitch (2, 0)
A lovely class headed by two quality bitches who could easily have changed places on another day.
1st Felstead’s Ch Foveaux Queens Gambit JW.
3½ years. Balanced, feminine head with lovely expression. Excellent neck, shoulders and topline, good feet and bone, well ribbed with a pleasing croup. Totally fit for function, moving freely both in profile and coming and going. Presented in first-class condition with a harsh weather-resistant jacket. Delighted to award her the BCC.
2nd Jones’ Ch Barleydust Fancy Foxtrot.
2 years. Another quality bitch and much of the winner’s critique applies. Lovely in profile with the correct easy gait and clean movement coming and going. Pushed hard for top honours and pleased to award her the RBCC.
Veteran Bitch (2, 0)
1st Felstead’s Ch Selestar Salix Lutea With Foveaux.
7 years. Pleasing overall balance although I would prefer a little more forechest. Good topline and croup, keen expression and well muscled throughout. Moved well in profile and cleanly away. BVIB.
2nd Thwaite & Thwaite’s Ch Ribblespride Ladytron
9 years and, as a little aside, shared my birthday today! Lovely head and expression, holding her topline well with an easy profile gait. Just preferred the winner’s accuracy coming and going today.
