WEST HIGHLAND WHITE TERRIER

Judge: Mr Paul Eardley

I really enjoyed the Westies and thank you very much for the entry which was ok by today’s standards. I think that we would all like a few more dogs in the ring and yearn for the days when the ring was knee deep in Westies. However we have to deal with the here and now. Overall I thought the quality was acceptable. I was very pleased with my principal winners and they could hold their own in much bigger entries. The dogs were generally well presented and sympathetically handled and temperaments were good as were most mouths. I observed no concerns on the health front which is reassuring.

A big thank you to my stewards Sue Joyce and Megan Roberts whose quiet confidence kept everything moving like clockwork.

What a pleasant way to spend the morning.

MPD (2 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: 2055 BRUEN, Ms Cathy Cocapri Dream Chaser-nice one to start the day with, good size, in good body, decent tailset and carriage, good fronted boy, would prefer a bit more angulation behind. Head will need to develop as currently he is a bit long in foreface.

PD (3 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: 2083 THOMSON, Mrs S Ashgate Falkirk-good moving boy this one, lovely proportions, held himself well in profile, very active, head still needs a bit of development, promising youngster. Best puppy dog.

1st: BRITTEN, Mrs D Bellevue Lucky Devil At Krisma – I loved the outline on this boy in stance, correct proportions, lovely neck and head carriage, super headed boy and he looked at you right. Moved well in all directions and finished off in good coat of correct texture and well presented and handled. A quality youngster and a well- deserved RCC. One for the upper house I would think.

2nd: GILLOTT, Mrs J E & CARLIN, Mrs J E Nossimp Fine Beacon Of Hope-lovely temperament, pleasing head, a bit lower to the ground than the winner and softer in coat, moved ok.

PGD (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: DALE, Miss M Lynnsto Kingsman-good type, lovely size, in super coat and well presented, attractive expression, is a better dog than he thinks as when he did set himself he was well proportioned and angulated. Hopefully he will regain his confidence.

LD (4 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: MURANO, Signorina Simona Vincent – this boy is an eyecatcher, outgoing temperament which draws the eye, carries himself really well on the move, well proportioned body, plenty of neck, super masculine head and excellent topline. He was so animated in the challenge that I could not overlook him. CC

2nd STANKIENE, Mrs Edita & STANKUS, Mr Tomas Forest Sprite Whisper Dusk Via Vivolunar ( Imp Pol)-this boy ticked a lot of boxes, decent proportions, moved quite well with tail on top, just not as outgoing as the winner.

OD (3 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: FRYER, Mrs S A Ch Oh Karol Vixan Into Hopecharm ( Imp Pol )-strong dog, unmistakeably a male, lovely head, good coat and texture, assertive mover, really good rear movement, holds his topline well, just a bit big for me but he is quality.

2nd: BRUEN, Ms Cathy Ir Ch Zackshine Sinner In Silk-compact and ok in outline, would prefer this one a bit more masculine, decent skull, a bit short of coat today.

VD (1 Entries) Abs: 1

SBB (4 Entries) Abs: 2

1st: MEHEE, Madame Sylvette All The Best Precious Girl De Biguinine-pretty 9 month old puppy, head developing ok, good temperament, would prefer a slightly better layback of shoulder.

2nd: TRAHER, Mrs Ann Braxquin Remember Me-really should have won the class on maturity, started off well and then decided to put a stop in. She is a good sort and hopefully will get out of this habit.

1st: BRUEN, Ms Cathy Cocapri Dream Girl

Just 6 months old and was just charming, super temperament, very showy, lovely outline, tail on top, sound movement, obviously needs to develop in body and head but I thought her very promising for one so young. Best puppy

2nd: STANKIENE, Mrs Edita & STANKUS, Mr Tomas Vivolunar Devil In A Dress-7 months so a month older, another delightful temperament, head not quite as attractive as the winner and she was a touch narrow behind but has promise.

PB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: MEHEE, Madame Sylvette All The Best Precious Girl De Biguinine-winner of special beginners

2nd: DISLEY, Mr D R Ashgate Fala-promising youngster with a decent head and outline, was just a bit “in-between” at the moment and a bit untidy on the move.

JB (3 Entries) Abs: 2

1st: MEHEE, Madame Sylvette All The Best Precious Girl De Biguinine

PGB (3 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: FRYER, Mrs S A Hopecharm La Vie En Rose-stood alone and could have coped with competition, lovely type, correct proportions, pleasing head, good rear, pinning a bit in front. When she settles a little more she should do well.

LB (6 Entries) Abs: 0

I enjoyed sorting these 6 out.

1st: COLEY, Mrs J Karamynd Hot Foot To Kingsview-this is the one that caught my eye when she came into the class and continued to do so. A lovely outline when standing and held it equally well on the move, ok up and back, tail in the right place. In lovely coat and condition. Could perhaps have a little more head for balance but she is quality and one that is knocking on the door.

2nd: BRADBURY, Mrs Samantha Fourastay Flower Power-this was the other one that caught my eye on first look, lovely head, good proportions, super rear, paddled a bit in front today.

OB (4 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: BRITTEN, Mrs D Ch Krisma Winter Sun-this girl was in tremendous form, just looked so good from all angles, super type of Westie. In stance she was eye-catching and unmistakeably feminine, she was in great condition and presented so well. On the move she was so sound in all directions holding a perfect topline with correct head carriage. Handled to perfection. I was delighted to award her CC and BOB and thrilled to hear that she went on to place 2nd in a strong terrier group.

2nd: FRYER, Mrs S A Ch Hopecharm Bright Angel-another of lovely type from this exhibitor. This girl provided good competition for the winner. She too is unmistakeably a bitch, super outline both standing and moving, lovely headpiece, strong rear. She is clearly well deserving of her title. Res CC.
