SCOTTISH KENNEL CLUB – GENERAL CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

SUNDAY 17TH MAY 2026

Judge: Mikaela Short (Zakaytia)

Samoyeds

Firstly, I would like to thank the committee of the Scottish Kennel Club for inviting me to judge at their Championship Show and thanks to my Steward on the day for running everything so well on her own. Also huge thanks to all the exhibitors for their entries and allowing me to go over your beautiful dogs and accepting my decisions so gracefully.

Overall, I found excellent quality in the bitches, which was reflected in the stronger entry on the day. I could easily have awarded four or five tickets out in the bitches, making my final decisions extremely difficult; unfortunately, I could present only one.

In general, I felt that movement remains a concern in some exhibits due to issues that need to be addressed within our breeding programmes.

Despite this, I thoroughly enjoyed my appointment and would be delighted to judge many of these same dogs again at some point in the future.

Puppy Dog (2, 0 Abs)

1st – Mann’s – Vandreem Imperial Linken

8-month-old boy, presented so well with correct dark pigment, correct eye shape, attractive head giving him a lovely expression, well furred neat ears, well balanced and a lovely plumed tail set well. Good angulation and coat of correct texture and in lovely jacket well presented. Handled so well for one so young. He moved well with purpose, good reach and drive which won him the class today. A promising youngster. BPIB

2nd – Ashbourne’s – Angelicus Furnando

Male of 10 months. Correct dark pigment, well furred ears, and correct texture to coat with a lovely, plumed tail slightly shorter in length. Larger type to 1. Good angulation but still to develop. Just did not move as well as 1 today.

Junior Dog (1, 0 Abs)

1st - Forster’s – Artsam Shining Future Hiro for Hakumichi

14 month old male, lovely in outline and very well balanced. Very attractive head and expression, correct eye shape with lovely dark pigmentation, well furred neat ears, chest developing well, lovely featherings to feet, nice tuck up and strong loins. In good coat of correct texture and a profuse tail. Moved very well out and back, when not moving too fast. Has a promising future I am sure.

Post Graduate Dog (5, 0 Abs)

Quite a few in this class were moving pretty close at the rear.

1st - Collinson’s – Vandreem Imperial Mario at Norjack JW

Very attractive male with a lovely shape and outline. Strong wedge shaped head with correct eye shape, correct dark pigment, neat well furred ears and well arched neck. Correct coat groomed to perfection. Good bone. Very well balanced male. Nice featherings, nice thick plumed tail. Moved well around the ring, to win him the class today. Will watch him with interest as he matures.

2nd - Dent’s – Bondsmoor Wolfman into Snowsense

Another nice male but at the larger end of the scale. Again with a nice strong wedge shaped head with correct eye, lovely biscuit tipped ears, and good pigmentation, well balanced with a good outline, in correct coat, with a lovely profuse tail. Strong loins, and good rear muscle tone. Moved well but not as well as 1.

3rd – Miles & Cameron’s - Lumistarr I Predict A Riot at Serrenus

Res – McIntyre’s - Bondsmoor Moon Dancer for Thistlebe

VHC – Wilson’s – Croftdouglas Brave Bundle

Limit Dog ( 0, 0 Abs)

Open Dog (2, 0 Abs)

1st – Jebson’s – Ch Vandreem Imperial Ripasso JW

Lovely male who stood out in profile, great angulation giving him a lovely outline, strong and very well balanced, nice broad skull with correct wedge head and a strong muzzle, correct eye shape and neat well furred ears. Good pigment, correct bite. In super plush coat of correct texture and beautifully groomed. Well placed shoulders, straight front, strong loins and excellent muscle tone. Well set profuse tail. Moved the best in this class today with plenty of rear drive. DCC & BOB and pleased to see him get shortlisted in the Group.

2nd – Jebson’s – Ch Lovely Snow Diamond Kristoph to Vandreem (Imp Hun)

Another lovely male who stands out for me, I actually prefer the head of this male to 1, and was splitting hairs between the two, 1 just moved better in the class today and stood out more in overall picture as 2 was quite out of coat today. Whilst coat is not the ultimate reason, what he had was of the correct texture with lovely featherings. Good angulation at the front. Strong loins. Correct eye shape, good pigment, correct bite, and a nice broad skull with correct wedge head and a nice strong muzzle with lovely head coat, tail not quite as nicely set as 1. Moved ok but lacked the drive of 1 today. RDCC

Veteran Dog (3, 2 Abs)

1st – Jones & Kirkwood’s 0 Ch/Ir/Nld/Dk/Bl/Ger Ch Vandreem Imperial Kazhiya JW

8 year old male with a lovely biscuit shaded coat and a great profile and outline. Got a lot to say for himself today. Nice dark pigment and correct wedge shaped head with neat well furred ears. Coat of correct texture and lovely featherings to his feet. Groomed to perfection. Lovely profuse well set tail. Moved well.

Puppy Bitch (1, 0 Abs)

1st – Webb & Bates – Angelicus Chiquitta at Rosskaja

10 month old bitch with a lovely plush cream coloured coat, well off for bone, lovely dark pigment, correct eye shape, neat well furred ears, lovely Sammie smile. Nice shape but carrying a little bit of weight today, or just a super thick coat on her body. Lovely profuse well set tail. Moved ok but needs to tighten up which may come with age.

Junior Bitch (2, 0 Abs)

1st – Mc-Greade’s – Vandreem Imperial Ocean for Frostia

Lovely 12 month old who caught my eye as she entered the ring, very pretty and feminine with alert expression, correct wedge shaped head, lovely dark pigment, slightly smaller eye shape, neat well furred ears set well apart, proudly arched neck, well laid shoulders, plenty of bone, and good angulation, giving a lovely profile. Lovely plush coat groomed to perfection and a lovely profuse tail that was correctly set. Moved freely showing drive but also elegance. She was certainly a contender in the challenge and I look forward to seeing how she matures in the future.

2nd – Jebson’s – Vandreem Imperial Malari

Very pretty bitch similar in head to 1, just with a shorter coat and ever so slightly longer in body. Lovely dark pigment, correct almond eyes, neat ears, correct wedge shaped skull, and well arched neck, correct coat and well feathered feet. Another well off for bone. Moved ok but a little close at the rear, and a little loose coming towards, which could tighten up as she matures.

Post Graduate Bitch (4, 0 Abs)

1st – McGreade’s – Vandreem Imperial Ocean for Frostia

As per previous class

2nd – Scott-May’s - Croftdouglas Dileas Anam

Very pretty bitch in good coat, correct dark pigment, nice broad muzzle on a correct wedge shaped head, with correct eye shape and neat well furred ears. Correct texture to coat, good angulation making a lovely outline, although she tended to lower her head at times giving the impression of a shorter neck. Correct feet with lovely featherings and lovely profuse well set tail. Moved well to give her 2nd in this class.

3rd – Kirkwood & Carruthers - Nirvana Prie Svetlicos to Vandreem (Imp Ltu)

Res – Dodd’s - Bondsmoor Moonlight Kiss JW

Limit Bitch (5, 0 Abs)

1st – Brandenberg, Smith & Jackson - Novaskaya Yva Lefay by Taronakits JW

Another lovely feminine bitch who stood out in this class, again a contender in the final challenge of a beautiful bitch line up. Lovely dark pigment, correct eye shape, and well furred ears. Good expression and she demonstrated the typical Sammie smile well. Well arched neck, and good front shoulder placement. Lovely featherings to correct shaped feet. Correct coat of good texture, clearly showing her lovely silver tips. Strong loins and very well muscled at the rear, and a lovely profuse tail over her back. Moved the best to win this class today.

2nd – Dodd’s - Bondsmoor Kiss Me Kate JW

Pretty bitch in good coat, strong muzzle on a correct wedge shaped head, with good pigment and correct eye shape, neat well furred ears when she used them. Well sprung ribs with plenty of heart room but just carrying a tad too much weight today. Correct feet with nice featherings and a lovely profuse well set tail. She moved well when not pacing, once settled she showed good free action.

3rd – King & Jenning’s - Original Beauty Lady Orleansnow JW (Imp Cze)

Res – Jones & Kirkwood’s - Vandreem Imperial Bellini

VHC – Webb & Bates - Rosskaja Ginato Clementino

Open Bitch (5, 3 Abs)

1st – Johnson’s - Ch Nikara Sweet Dreams for Kimeekasams

A bitch that I have admired from the ringside and judged once before when much younger. Making my decision in the challenge so tough. Such a feminine and pretty bitch with lovely head coat. Correct eye shape and lovely dark pigment, showing that typical Sammie smile. Correct wedge shaped head and neat well furred ears. Well arched neck, leading into well laid shoulders, well sprung ribs and strong loins, very well muscled at the rear. This girl could certainly do a days work. Lovely shape and outline with lovely featherings to correct feet. Well angled at the rear and a super well set profuse tail. Moved the best in the class today with strong agile powerful drive with good reach yet looking so elegant. RBCC

2nd – Jebson’s - Vandreem Imperial Amore

Very pretty bitch, slightly larger build than 1, and a tad longer in body, and showing slightly out of coat today. Good pigment, correct eye and neat ears. Good front angulation. Nice featherings to correct feet. Well set profuse tail. Just didn’t have the drive of 1 on the move, and didn’t move as well coming towards.

Veteran Bitch (3, 1 Abs)

1st – Collinson’s – Ch Nikara Secret Love By Norjack JW

Another two beautiful bitches in this class, both who I have admired from the ringside.

Lovely biscuit shaded bitch, 8 years young, definitely not showing her age. Lovely outline and shape, very pretty and feminine with correct dark pigment, correct eye shape and neat well furred ears set on a good wedge shaped head. Well arched neck, good shoulder placement, well sprung ribs and nice tuck. Lovely featherings to feet. Well muscled at the rear and certainly fit for purpose. Moved effortlessly and elegantly but yet powerfully round the ring with good reach and drive winning her this class and the BCC & BVIB

2nd – Brandenberg & Smith’s – Ch Taronakits Its Kwest JW

Tough class between these two lovely veterans, very pretty feminine bitch, lovely outline and shape, correct coat with lovely silver tips, lovely featherings to feet, and a lovely profuse tail. She moved well but tended to look up at her handler and didn’t have as much drive as 1 on the day. But these two could change places on another day.

Special Beginners Bitch (2, 0 Abs)

1st – Lukkonen’s – Mishka Na Severe Kiss of the Rose (Imp Cze)

Nice slightly larger biscuit bitch with pretty biscuit freckling to her face. Correct eye shape and good pigment, with a correct wedge shaped head. Good featherings to correct feet. In good coat with correct texture and tail well set carried over the back. Good outline a tad longer in body. Moved the best in this class today. BSpBeg

2nd – Walton’s – Brilantico Cloudy Dreams

This young girl was very out of coat today, and got a bit spooked by someone pushing a very noisy trolley past the ring. Longer set in body. Good pigment and correct coat what she did have, and nice featherings. She moved quite erratic today but could have been due to being quite unsettled in the class.
