Firstly, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who entered, it was a great pleasure to judge all of your lovely boys and girls, and I really appreciate all the time, effort and cost that you spent just entering and getting to the show. I was greatly heartened by the good-natured camaraderie that existed around the ringside, with exhibitors just stepping in and giving a helping hand to anyone who needed a dog running etc, and the sporting way that my decisions were accepted throughout. Thank you also to my capable and efficient stewards, who managed to keep me on track.

Overall, I felt the bitches had more depth of quality than the dogs in this entry, but the higher classes for both sexes were lovely, and I was literally spoilt for choice, especially in the Open classes. I really enjoyed this appointment, and it was wonderful to see our beautiful breed doing so well in the Group competitions.

I will finish my ramblings as I aways do, (because it happens to be true), win or lose, you always return home with the best girls and boys.

1ST 4468 - Sh Ch Lynwood Hocus Pocus at Settesoli JW (Mrs J P Russell)

Some Irish just get better with age and here is one of them. I really loved this boy for his quality, balance and type. In my opinion he had one of the best male heads here today, masculine, refined, and so beautifully chiselled, with correctly raised brows, dark eye and gentle, appealing expression. At just over 9 years old he is now showing some grey, but these dustings only seemed to enhance the work that is in his head, giving him a regal and distinguished air. Well presented in lovely coat and condition, he retains a lovely racy outline, good true front showing good prosternum and ample bone, depth and substance throughout. Balanced angulation fore and aft, nothing exaggerated, and a correct, gently sloping topline which was held so beautifully on the move. It was this and his true, efficient and flowing movement that just gave him the edge today over some very worthy boys. Pleased to award him the RCC.

2ND 4406 - Astleyview Coming Home to Penclippin (Mrs H G Bentley) Another boy that showed good balance and type, who really appealed to me. Although he didn’t have the work of head of 1, he was handsome, with a lovely kindly expression and correct eye and good finish to muzzle. I found him quite old fashioned in style and outline, which is a plus point for me, and he had the correct amount of bone and substance, with nothing overdone. He has a good neck, clean over shoulder with a good topline. His hindquarters are unexaggerated, well-muscled and with a good width of thigh. He moved OK, enjoying his day out.

1ST 4409 - Forfarian The Uncloaked (Mrs B & Mrs L Berry & Morris)

Almost 8 months and typical of his age, this young man is a tad leggy at this stage in his development, but he has all the essentials, with good bone and substance, a rich chestnut coat and lovely breed type. His head is masculine, correctly proportioned, with a good eye shape and appealing expression. He has a good front, straight and true, with a good layback of shoulder and depth of brisket. I liked his slightly arched neck and clean outline, with gently sloping topline and good finish over his croup. He moved happily and soundly but was a little more erratic than his sister in the challenge for Best Puppy in Breed. Best Puppy Dog.

1ST 4455 - Covarney Mighty Quinn with Stourford (Mr W G & Mrs A C Needs)

Just out of Puppy, this young lad took naughty to another level as initially he attempted to make his way around the ring attempting to defy gravity, without his feet touching the ground. I loved his exuberant character, (although I suspect his owner didn’t at the time), and his well balanced and racy outline with moderation all through. His head very much appealed to me, masculine, with a good brow and nice finish to his muzzle. His dark eyes contained more than just a hint of wickedness, adding to his true Irish expression. He has a good front assembly and forechest, muscular neck and is clean over his shoulders, running smoothy into a strong and correct topline with a good tailset. He has moderate, correct angles in front and behind, good depth of chest and he moved positively when he eventually settled down.

2ND 4445 - Gwendariff Little White Lie (IKC) (Mrs G Hyslop)

A mature, quality boy, with an abundance of coat, presented in lovely condition. Longer cast than 1, he has a pleasant, balanced head with good chiselling, low set ears and a soft, gentle expression. Another boy with a strong, well-proportioned neck and a good front and forechest. He is well muscled and has a good depth of chest, with good angles for and aft. I just found him a little long in body which affected his overall balance and topline. He moved happily on good feet.

1ST 4431 - Ixia Boys Don't Cry at Shanoah JW (Mr N & Mrs S Foster) A lovely young lad, compact and well put together, with a racy and balanced outline. I liked his handsome head, masculine and refined, with a good, raised brow, kindly expression and good square finish to his muzzle. Solidly built, he has well laid shoulders, a straight front with a prominent forechest. He has good body properties, well ribbed back and good depth of chest. He has moderate angulation front and behind, with no exaggeration, I liked his strong hindquarters, correct topline and croup, and beautiful, neat feet. He gave a good account of himself on the move, steady and flowing with drive, but he was a tad proud of tail today, which detracted a little from his lovely outline when moving.

2ND 4413 - Riverbrue Gives You Hell (Miss C Clarke)

A quality young man, just out of Junior, this boy was presented in beautiful coat and condition. He has a balanced, handsome head, with good stop and finish to foreface and a soft expression. Nicely constructed overall with good depth of chest, he has good angulation, in front and behind. He has a decent width of thigh, is short from hock to heel and has and lovely, neat feet. A little longer in loin than the winner, I would have preferred a stronger topline. He moved OK but was not as steady as 1 today.

1ST 4471 - Bardonhill That's All Right at Delsanto (Mrs C A Sheldon)

I really fell for this quality, well-presented boy and think him a beautiful example of the breed, just so correct all through. Racy, balanced and elegant with substance, he ticked all the boxes for me. So well put together, the sum of his parts result in a beautiful, unexaggerated outline, full of old-fashioned honesty that we don’t often see now. His head is handsome and refined with a soft, melt your heart expression and good raised brow. He has a good straight front and a lovely neck and shoulders, with correct angulation throughout. He has good bone and depth to his chest, with well sprung ribs. His topline is excellent, and he has a good muscular loin, a pleasing finish to his croup and a good tailset. His strong hindquarters enabled him to move fluently around the ring with real drive. I had him in mind for higher honours, but I felt that he just lacked maturity in the company he shared today. Full of potential, he is just shy of 3 years old, so time is most definitely on his side. One thing is for sure; I am certain he will be worth the wait.

2ND 4464 - Rionore Bewitching Memory (Ms S J Randle)

A nice, typey boy with much to like. His head is not as refined as the winner, with not quite as much work, but it is pleasant and masculine, with a kind eye and his muzzle is nicely finished. He has good body properties and is well balanced and solidly built, while retaining a racy appearance. I liked his muscular neck, clean over his shoulders, and his correctly sloping topline. Presented in good coat, he has strong, well angulated hindquarters with a good width of thigh and strong rear pasterns, although I would prefer tighter feet. He moved happily, if a little erratically, today.

1ST 4415 - Riverbrue Ophelia Bobby (Mrs S Cole)

This lad was presented in lovely bloom and has a handsome head, with a dark eye and soft expression, although I would prefer to see a little more chiselling to his foreface. He has good bone and a good front, with prominent forechest. He has ample spring of rib and depth to his brisket. He is good over neck and shoulders and possesses strong, well-muscled hindquarters, showing good angulation, and a nice finish over his croup. I would prefer to see a stronger topline, as it was sometimes lost when he was standing today. He moved out steadily and true.

2ND 4422 - Swiftlark Invincible JW (Mrs S S Corless)

An upstanding and solidly built young man who is nicely made all through and who was close up to the winner today. Although his head is pleasant enough, it is a little strong for me if I’m honest, and I would have preferred to see a softer expression. He has balanced angulation fore and aft and he is well ribbed up, strong over loin and with good hindquarters. I preferred his topline to 1, and he moved soundly with good tail action.

1ST 4425 - Gwendariff Bobby Dazzler (IKC) (Mrs L J Dewar)

Living up to his name, I really liked this young man’s striking, balanced outline. I was surprised to find he was still relatively young, and looked quite mature with his well-presented, abundant coat. A quality dog, he is honest all through and strongly made, with good bone and substance, while retaining his elegance and raciness. He has a good, well-balanced head with an appealing, kindly expression. I really liked his neck, muscular, well proportioned and with a lovely crest. He has an excellent front assembly with ample forechest and good depth of chest. His topline is strong and correctly sloping, and I liked his robust hindquarters, nicely angulated and well-muscled. He moved stylishly with drive, on lovely feet, and I sure he has a bright future ahead of him.

2ND 4470 - Bardonhill A Million Ways to Delsanto (Mrs C A Sheldon)

On first look I thought this dog was my class winner. He has super breed type and the most handsome and appealing head with such a lovely, gentle expression. His outline is racy and balanced without a hint of exaggeration, and it flows beautifully from his head to his tail, encompassing his nicely arched neck and excellent topline and croup. He has ample bone, a good straight front with prominent forechest, and his shoulders are well laid back. His chest is deep and he has correct, moderate angulation both in front and behind and is well muscled. He moved well, if a little close behind, but I just preferred the rear drive of the winner today.

1ST 4433 - Int/bel/nld/ger/lux Ch Riverwood Unbelievable Mr Moonlight Nld/bel Jch Ejw 22 (Miss C Godart)

I loved this boy. In summing him up my notes say ‘power, quality and balance’. This is a dog in his prime and I was blown away by the strength, power and presence of him, both moving and standing. A ‘proper dog,’ there is nothing androgenous about this boy. He has that all important combination of substance and refinement, with strong bone and a balanced racy outline. His head is handsome and masculine without coarseness. He has a lovely, intelligent expression and dark eye with prominent brows creating a well-defined stop. His foreface is nicely chiselled, and he has a good square finish to his muzzle. His gently arched, muscular neck is well proportioned, flowing cleanly into his shoulders and fabulous topline. He has a great front assembly with prominent pro-sternum, a good depth of chest and spring of rib. His shoulders are well laid back, and he has lovely angles in front and behind with nothing overdone. Wide over his croup, his hindquarters are powerful and well-muscled with a good width of thigh, and strong and short from hock to heel. His rich, gleaming coat completed this impressive picture. I loved him on the move, he has such power, reach and drive, covering the ground effortlessly and using his tail to good effect. I was delighted to award him the CC, (his second I believe - let’s hope that his third isn’t too far away), and BOB. His winning streak didn’t stop there, and I was thrilled to see him go on to win Group 1. What a star! Congratulations to his breeder/owner.

2ND 4429 - Sh Ch/ir Sh Ch/int/fin Ch Gwendariff Absolutely Marwe'llus (IKC) Cw24 Ww24/25 (Miss R Ellrich)

Another impressive boy with great quality and strength all through, he has lovely breed type and a racy, striking outline. His head really appealed to me, masculine and refined in skull with lovely, raised brows, dark, well-shaped eyes with a wistful expression. He has a good finish to his muzzle and plenty of work to his foreface. I liked his strong, gently arched neck, complete with a lovely crest. He has a good lay of shoulder and super front assembly with strong bone and good depth to his chest. His topline is gently sloping, and he is great over his croup with a good tailset. He is strong over loin and has good, balanced angulation fore and aft. Like the winner he has super, well-muscled hindquarters with short and strong rear pasterns. He moved very well, fluent and true, with drive, on beautiful compact feet. Beautifully presented in full coat and excellent condition, he was very close up for the RCC today.

An upstanding boy, he presented a nice balanced picture overall. He has a pleasant head, with a kindly expression. He is well off for bone and has a good, straight front, pronounced forechest and depth to his chest. I liked his well angulated hindquarters and firm, sloping topline. He moved out soundly and positively today.

2ND 4430 - Clonageera Honey Honey at Blodaugoch (Miss G & Mr A Evans & Lloyd-Jones)

Close up to the winner, this young lady is a nice, well-proportioned girl, with a balanced and unexaggerated outline. Her head is pretty with a soft, appealing expression. She has a good spring of rib, pleasing angulation fore and aft, and a nice topline and tailset. She moved soundly on good feet, enjoying her day out today.

1ST 4476 - Sh Ch Forfarian Soo Lush JW (Mrs S & Miss J, Mrs N Sturrock & Watt)

This lady is a real favourite of mine. I have done her well before, and I recall awarding her BP Bitch at my first appointment when she was a minor puppy. My thoughts about her have not changed, she is still a beauty, but I just can’t believe she is almost 8 and a half years old! She certainly doesn’t look or act her age, and she shows wonderful attitude when moving around the ring, demanding everyone’s attention. She owns the prettiest of heads and has a lovely expression that contains a hint of devilment and sparkle, which I love. Her outline is racy and balanced, and she has moderation in all things, apart from quality and breed type, which she has in spades. She has a good front assembly and well laid shoulders, with a nice spring of rib. Clean over her neck and shoulders, I love her topline, with correct gentle slope and excellent finish to her croup. Her beautifully constructed hindquarters are well muscled, with strong rear pasterns. She is still a strong and sound mover, wonderfully animated, with drive and a slashing tail. It was a pleasure to award her the RCC and BVB today. She continued her winning ways and was placed 2nd in the Veteran Group. Congratulations to her breeder/owners!

2ND 4438 - Sixoaks Leading Lady (Mr & Mrs J E Heather)

Another quality lady of lovely type, with a balanced, elegant outline. White frostings adorn her pretty, feminine head, adding contrast to her kindly, dark eyes and giving an indication of her years. I liked her neck that ran smoothly into her firm, gently sloping topline, and her correctly angulated hindquarters, with good width of thigh. I would have preferred a little more angulation in front, but she moved soundly and happily today, doing her owners proud.

1ST 4477 - Forfarian The Seduced (Mrs S & Miss J, Mrs N Sturrock & Watt)

At almost 8 months, this little poppet presents a very nice picture standing with her sumptuous puppy coat. She has an elegant and balanced outline and a very pretty head with a sweet expression, long and lean with raised brows. Her front is good and straight, and she has a good depth of chest and ample bone. She has a good layback of shoulder and correct, moderate angulation fore and aft. I really liked her flowing topline which she held as she moved around the ring in a happy, steady fashion, slashing her tail all the way. Best Puppy in Breed.

1ST 4472 - Sametsuz So to Speak (Mrs L Sketchley)

This young lady is lovely to go over and so correct all through. Not flashy, but elegant, unexaggerated, with good bone and substance, she presents a lovely image both moving and standing. Her head is feminine and appealing, with a kind expression and a nice square finish to her muzzle. She has a good straight front, great neck and shoulders and is well ribbed up. Her outline is balanced and flowing, especially when she moves, using her strong, well-constructed hindquarters to drive her along.

2ND 4412 - Gwendariff Grace Kelly TAF (Miss J & Miss R Childs & Longbottom)

I really liked this girl standing, and on my initial look I thought she would be my winner. She is full of quality and breed type, and her outline is racy, stylish and balanced. She has a very pretty head with a nicely raised brow and soft expression. I liked her clean, strong and correctly sloping topline, balanced, unexaggerated angulation. She had good depth of chest, is well ribbed up and strong over her loin. She was quite unsettled on the move and could not match the winner’s accurate, driving movement today.

1ST 4434 - Riverwood X’si Bitsy Teenie Weenie Jch (Miss C Godart)

What a beautiful young lady she is, with her striking, racy outline, total balance and sound confirmation throughout. I thought her head was lovely, domed with raised brows, nicely chiselled foreface, dark eyes and a sweet, heart melting expression. She has good bone and substance, good front assembly with ample fore- chest, deep, well sprung ribs, carried well back and strong correctly arched loin. Her neck is strong with a good reach, clean over her shoulders and her topline is excellent, with a good finish to her croup and correct tailset. She is well angulated in front and behind without being overdone and she has a good width of thigh, strong rear pasterns and good, neat feet. She moved freely and efficiently around the ring, with reach and drive. Beautifully presented and full of potential, I would love to take her home!

2ND 4411 - Ixia The Lovecats (H K & J A Bouttell & Burbridge)

‘So wonderfully, wonderfully, wonderfully, wonderfully pretty’….is the refrain that comes to mind and sums her up perfectly too! Close up to the winner, this young lady is slightly smaller and a little more compact than 1, but with similar sound construction, elegance, balance and great breed type. She is so very feminine with a beautiful head, refined with plenty of work, and a lovely gentle expression. She has a good straight front, prominent forechest and good, well laid shoulders, flowing into a correct, gently sloping topline. She has good angulation in front and behind, free from exaggeration, and strong hindquarters. To be critical I would prefer slightly neater feet. My notes say, ‘lovely, happy mover’ and she most certainly was, showing good drive and animation.

I really liked this girl, she is so elegant, graceful and well made, without exaggeration, and has a classic balanced outline. She has good bone and substance, with a straight front and good and ample depth of brisket. Her head is very pretty, refined with a dark eye and a wistful expression and good raised brows. Her well-proportioned neck runs neatly into nicely laid shoulders and a good, gently sloping topline and croup. I loved her well-muscled hindquarters showing good angulation, and she moved steady with good drive today.

Close up to the winner, this is another girl with much to like about her, she is a very smart and stylish young lady with a lovely racy outline. Her head is well balanced and feminine with an attractive, quizzical expression. She has good body properties, unexaggerated with ample bone, lovely depth and spring of rib, with a good forechest. I liked the slight arch of her neck and firm and correctly sloping topline held on the move. She had good angulation in front and behind, with strong hindquarters, and was presented in lovely bloom. She moved out well today, fluent and true.

A delightful young lady, I couldn’t quite believe that she is only 27 months old! Shown in lovely coat and condition, there is so much to like about her, both standing and on the move. She presented a beautifully balanced, flowing outline and she possesses a lovely head, refined, with correct eye shape and colour, with a beguiling expression. She is solidly built, while retaining elegance, I liked her bone and substance, spring of rib and depth of brisket. She has a good front assembly and layback of shoulders with correct, unexaggerated angulation in front and behind. Her topline is gently sloping and so beautifully maintained on the move, with a good tail set and action. My notes say she ‘moved her socks off’ and she certainly did, striding out with accuracy, reach and drive. She was a strong contender for the RCC today, and I am sure her time will come.

She has good neck and shoulders, clean, and flowing beautifully into a strong topline. She is well angulated fore and aft, with strong hindquarters, well-muscled, with a good width of thigh. 1ST 4424 - Alolfrana Electra (Ms R & Mrs J Danks & Kniveton)

Another surprisingly young, but very beautiful girl, who appealed greatly to me. At just shy of 3 years old, she has quality all through and is so lovely to go over. She is the complete package, with all the essentials, and everything as it should be. She has such an eye catching and racy outline, totally honest and unexaggerated, with excellent balance, proportions and substance. I think that she has a ‘workmanlike’ quality to her, which I mean as a great complement, and in large part to the excellent movement she demonstrated today. I found her head lovely, very feminine and pretty, with a good, raised brow and a well chiselled foreface. Her expression holds a hint of mischief, showing an inkling of her wonderful attitude and ring presence on the move. She possesses a good arched neck, straight front, a lovely front assembly and forechest, and is deep chested with well sprung ribs. She has strength over her loin, and good, balanced angulation in front and behind, with strong, well-muscled hindquarters and tight neat feet. Her topline is so correct and strong, and held beautifully when moving. Others may have preference for a little more coat, but she had enough for me, well-presented and in good condition. She managed to out move all the other girls here today, owning the ring and commanding attention, with her super front extension and rear drive, finished off beautifully with a slashing tail. I was very pleased to award her a well-deserved third CC. Congratulations to her owners/breeders.

2ND 4414 - Covarney Dream Time from Bronrians JW (Mr D & Miss C Clarke)

I found this girl sound and very nice to go over. She is longer cast than the winner and presented a smart, clean and balanced outline, and is racy with substance. Her head is attractive and well proportioned with a good stop, kind eye and excellent finish to her muzzle. Well angulated in front and behind, she has a good layback of shoulder, straight front and good bone. She has ample depth of brisket and spring of rib, and I liked her strong hindquarters, well-muscled with a nice width of thigh. Longer in loin than 1, she still retained a flowing and gently sloping topline and had a good tailset and finish to her croup. To be critical I would have preferred her feet to be a tad smaller. Presented in lovely bloom, she moved soundly today.

1ST 4454 - Sh Ch Lynwood Rather Scrumptious JW (Mrs J P Mugford)

This beautiful lady is very aptly named; she has such a lovely striking, clean outline and is so racy and well balanced throughout. Presented in tip top condition, with a dark, rich glossy coat, she looked a picture both moving and standing. Her head is feminine with a regal air, long and lean, with a lovely, raised brow and plenty of work. I loved her muscular, slightly arched neck which flows beautifully into her strong, firm topline. She has good bone, a great front assembly, good depth of chest and spring of rib. Her hindquarters have good muscle, well bent stifles and strong rear pasterns, short from hock joint to heel, although to be critical I would prefer neater feet. She moved out very positively and fluently, with strong drive, holding her lovely topline as she went.

2ND 4432 - Int Sh Ch/bel/nld/lux/ger Ch Riverwood The Devil Wears Prada Jch (Miss C Godart)

I struggled to separate this gorgeous bitch from the winner, and on a different day these girls could very easily change places. The old cliché of wishing for two first prizes to award seemed especially relevant for me on this occasion. I loved this girl’s head, beautiful, balanced and exquisitely sculpted, with dark, well-shaped eyes and a kind, melting expression. Her outline is well balanced and elegant, and she possesses ample bone, substance, being very well constructed throughout. Beautifully presented, in lovely coat and condition, she has a good straight front, prominent forechest, ribs well sprung with a good depth to her brisket. Her shoulders are well laid back and her angulation in front and behind is correct and well balanced. Like the winner she has well-muscled and robust hindquarters, and I loved her tight, neat feet. She moved very well, with animation and drive, I just preferred the winner’s topline in profile today.
