I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the Officers and Committee of the Midlands Coun Sties Canine Society for inviting me to judge .This was my first Championship appointment awarding CCs in my favourite breed .It was an exceptionally friendly show and thanks to my excellent stewards ,John Greenwood and Graham Underwood for keeping the ring flowing and the humour.
Having been actively involved in this breed for over 28 years, I've had the privilege of observing many outstanding dogs and bitches throughout the years, many of which form the foundation of the gene pool behind the exhibits presented today.Overall the entry presented was composed of good specimens of the breed. It was pleasing to observe correct straight fronts and straight movement across the entries . However, I must note that in recent years I have observed some exhibits with poor front construction and galloping front movement issues slowly creeping into the breed. This trend is concerning, and breeders must remain vigilant in preserving quality. Deeply moved by the wonderful support, applause, and sportsmanship from the ringside—it made the milestone exceptionally memorable and emotional for me.
The exhibits presented today did not show worrying front or hindquarter concerns and bites were generally good too.
My thanks to all the exhibitors for entrusting me with their dogs and allowing me the pleasure of judging them.

Black 11 months old , nearly out of puppy, but what an awesome dog to go over, his last puppy class, the owner informed me .A good will sized puppy beautifully balanced ,and not overdone in any way. Correct, substantial muzzle with no flews matching a nicely typical field spaniel head with raised brows ,chiselling and defined occiput bone . Strong, long neck leading into a beautiful and correct lay of shoulders .
His shoulder and upper-arm angles replicate his hindquarters, showing symmetry throughout . Level topline with correct ratio of deep ribs along through the back (two-thirds being ribs) Flat wellboned legs ,good pastern to his tight large padded feet. His elbows could be a little tighter to his ribs, which showed slightly both when stacked .However, he is a substantial sized puppy who just needs time to mature and tighten up. Moving fore and aft, his movement was driven, and with purpose.Using his tail to the max which was low set not carried high The overall bone on this boy is exceptional without being exaggerated. It was a pleasure to judge him as such an outgoing happy dog . I will watch his future progress with great interest as he matures, and I was delighted to award his place and BEST PUPPY IN BREED

1ST - Sonnetend Brothers in Arms JW (Mr O Stone)
Black 18 months old .A large, outstanding boy who presents a highly promising outline. He has an ample muzzle that beautifully matches his well-chiselled head . A lovely melting expression and a correct ear set, complete with long, well-feathered ears. Moving down, he has a long strong neck into correct shoulder placement, demonstrating his lay of shoulder and upper arm. His front legs are of flat, straight bone. He exhibits the correct length of rib and loin, all while maintaining a good, firm top line. On the move, his gait was good both fore and aft, moving with true purpose and drive. His back quarters are equally pleasing ,a good bend of stifle and well let down.hocks. His tail set is correctly set low and he used it nicely throughout the ring taking it all in his stride
He is a happy boy with an excellent temperament. I believe he was not with his usual handler today, but the handler did a great job and the dog thoroughly enjoyed his day out. He is in great condition and showing excellent muscle, even if he did leave his jacket at home today. I will be very interested to see this boy progress in the show ring as he matures.

1ST - Fecimus Joyful Story of Lunakatris (Mrs K & Mr C Morris)
Liver and tan 23 months old. A dog who presents a lovely, balanced profile when stacked and moved . He possesses a masculine head featuring a deeper muzzle . While his back skull is slightly strong, he still retains a clearly visible occiput. Up on the side profile the skull remains flat and free from doming. His ears are excellently low-set and carry enough feathering.
His muscular neck is of correct length, leading down into clean, well laid-back shoulders. He stands on flat well boned legs with tight, compact feet. He maintains a good length of rib with a shorter loin , he lacks a tad of depth in the rib compared to 2nd
His hindquarters are impressively strong and muscular, boasting a great bend of stifle and well let-down hocks that power and drive from the rear. The tail set is correct, never carried too high. On the move, he tracked effortlessly ,being picky his front feet were slightly turned in but didn't default to his enthusiasm and drive . A very happy dog presented in a hard condition. His coat is dense and waterproof , showing sparse feathering. A fit functional male .
2ND - Elgert Bling Bling (Mr & Mrs R Crow)
Liver 2 years old , of excellent overall proportion, presenting the same balance of height to length as 1st .Displays a little more work and refinement in the head than 1st . The head shape is larger but not overdone .Correct muzzle length paired with large nostrils. Well-chiseled head with no fill under the eyes, as desired, complimented by prominent brows and a moderate stop. The long neck flows into a superb lay of shoulders. Stands on flat-boned legs. Pasterns are a fraction weak, though this did not prevent him from maintaining straight front movement and a good topline. Presented with deeper ribs compared to 1st.. The hindquarters assembly is sound and well-angulated and good bend if stifle . A coat of great liver color with ample silk feathering.Adequate muscle and was beautifully turned out .He performed with quiet unexpectation , and behaved willingly when being assessed .This dog has a lot of virtues to give to the breed and I will watch his journey with keen interest.

1ST - Fecimus Son of A Gun JW (Miss A & Ms D Macbain & Brewer
Liver 3 years old .A handsome, underrated, and balanced dog whose profile, when stacked, fills the eye with breed type. While he may ‘appear ‘slightly smaller compared to some field males he is of correct height and fits all the criteria .He possesses a sculpted head featuring prominent brows, a distinct crease between the eyes, eyes correct shape and colour ,required chiseling, and a correct ear set.His neck is muscular, long and and has is exceptionally well-put-together . He has a strong back and loins, which are well-filled-in at both ends with correct angulation in front and back assembly ,ribs deep, elbows snugly into pleasing spring of rib . His low ,let down hocks stand on tight, well-padded feet. True on the move with plenty of drive . His movement was a little hurried at first as he moved away and then settled into his stride . His mindset today was elsewhere ,on the bitches .Towards the end of going over him , he lost a bit of focus , likely because he didn't read today's agenda and left his brains and his jacket at home! The judging ended fittingly with a sloppy kiss, making for a wonderful conclusion. Though he stood alone, structurally this dog is so sound that it was a true happiness to award him his placing.

1ST - Sh Ch Gadhelic Rum Tum Tugger to Benbreac (Mr J & Mrs P Davies) DOG C.C
Liver 7 years old at his prime and didn't disappoint. Chiseled head and body of great quality, he has it all. Today this handsome boy showed well and moved excellently. In superb condition and a beautifully presented groomed coat. A head of fine quality and substance ,long lean muzzle, subtle brows, plenty of work in the skull, chiselled , proportioned and breed correct. A beautiful tender expression I couldn't ignore. A long muscular neck into a lovely lay of shoulder and upper arm of equal length held close to the well sprung ribs.Legs flat and well boned, and straight Loin is strong, thus aiding to keep his top line level . Correct length of back . Well-muscled hindquarters, low let down hocks, feet well padded and tight. His runner ran him well today with his movement being effortless and steady with drive from the rear and unhurried. He fit the breed standard perfectly and filled the criteria.I was so happy to award him first, then later the dog CC to a much shocked owner. It's clear to see why this dog wins top honors.
2ND - Gadhelic Jack Frost (Mrs L J Moss)
Liver roan dog 3 years old with plenty of qualities . Unlucky to meet 1st placing ,4 yrs younger but still quality . Sculptured head of excellent quality chisselled ,lean under the eye and well pronounced occiput.Dark liver pigmentation on his well developed nose and tight eye rims. Eyes the colour of dark hazel. Ears beautifully long and well feathered, not held above his eye level framing his head beautifully Muzzle long and lean. Perfect regular scissor bite. A little finer appearance than 1st but no way underestimated. Clean long neck with beautiful lay of shoulders into moderate length of leg, flat bone and straight. His body at 3 years old is coming into his own and would love to judge him again in a few years. His gait was long and unhurried but would have just liked a bit more enthusiasm. He did what was asked and didn't put a foot wrong. He has ample muscling and sturdy hindquarters. A dense body coat with flat and glossy adequate featherings. Knowledge that some roan coats can be different to the full livers and black field spaniels is useful . He has a lovely distribution of ticking (spots) throughout his coat and is presented in great condition( I have no concerns regarding this dog's coat .) He has moderate bend of stifle and well padded large feet . He has an ample amount of bone and structure but still feels this dog has a little more left in the tank when he matures fully.I look forward to watching his show career develop.

1ST - Sh Ch Jesham Baronet (Mr D A & Mrs J Bennett) RESERVE C.C AND BEST VETERAN IN BREED
Liver 9 year old whom i have judged before. One of the high end field spaniel dogs in the ring today. Seeing him stack his profile fills the eye of what a true field is. He has a superb field head and muzzle which portrays finesse, sculptured and gently strong but not exaggerated . Chiselled with leanness under eye with pronounced brows and occiput . Eyes wide but almond and dark hazel aiding his kind melting expression .For a veteran he is in great shape. A clean, long ,muscular neck showing no sagginess or ageing present . When you have the pleasure to judge this calm dog ,in superb condition. His front assembly is straight and with a flatbone on tight well padded feet . His ribs have got a great spring and are deep with no undesired width to his chest .Shoulders well laid back with correct turn of upper arm. Powerful, correct, muscular hindquarters with complimentary drive from his hocks His loin is a fraction longer than the dog cc and I think it cost him his top honors . He didn't hold his top line as well today. It bounced a little on the move .Apart from that his owner turned him out in perfect condition and he has an amazing silky long coat. His tail set is breed standard correct , set low with a lively action, and he used it well. A joy to award him reserve c.c..
