I would like to thank the officers and committee of Birmingham National Dog Show Society for the kind invitation to judge, and for their warm hospitality throughout the day. My thanks also go to my hard-working stewards who kept everything running smoothly and efficiently. Finally, thank you to the exhibitors for their excellent entry and for accepting my decisions in such a sporting manner. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable appointment with many quality dogs to go over.

Minor Puppy Dog, a very promising youngster of lovely type. Good head with correct expression and dark eye, well proportioned with good length to height ratio, already showing a pleasing long and low outline. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders, with developing forechest. Body of good length with correct topline and ribbing for his age. Moved out well with a free, easy action. In excellent condition and shown to advantage. A promising puppy for the future.

Puppy Dog, a well made youngster of good type and balance. Masculine head with correct expression and dark eye. Good length of neck into well laid shoulders, giving a clean, flowing outline. Well proportioned with good length to height ratio, already showing a pleasing long and low profile. Good forechest developing and good ribbing for his age and a firm topline. Moved out well with a free, easy action, covering the ground with purpose. In good condition and shown to advantage. A promising puppy.

2nd, litter brother to the winner and many similar qualities. Another of good type with a pleasing outline, masculine head and correct expression. Good length of neck flowing into well laid shoulders, giving a balanced front assembly. Well bodied for age with good ribbing and a firm topline, presenting a typical long and low profile. Moved out well with a free, steady action. Promising and should have a bright future.

1st presenting a balanced and pleasing outline. Good head and expression, with correct length of neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Well ribbed with a firm topline and good underline, showing the desired length without losing strength. Moved out with purpose, holding his shape well on the move.

Longmel Cointreau Truffle

2nd another very nice dog of similar type, with much to admire. Good head and expression, with a nice reach of neck into sound forequarters. Well constructed overall and presenting a good outline, just preferred the overall finish and balance of the winner today. Moved well and could change places on another day.

1st a well presented red dog of good type and balance. Pleasing head and expression, with good length of neck flowing cleanly into well laid shoulders. Well bodied with good ribbing and a firm, level topline, holding a typical long and low outline. Good underline and overall proportions giving a balanced picture. Moved out soundly with a steady, purposeful action, covering the ground well. A nice honest dog who deserved his place.

1st just had the edge in overall balance and finish. Good head and expression, with a nice length of neck flowing into well laid shoulders and a sound front. Well ribbed with a firm topline and good underline, presenting the desired long, low outline. Moved out with purpose, covering the ground well and holding his shape on the move.

2nd a quality dog in his own right, with much to like. Good head and expression, with a pleasing outline and sound construction throughout. Perhaps just lacking a little of the winner’s overall balance today, but still a very worthy exhibit. Moved well and should have his day.

1st a quality red dog who appealed for his overall balance and breed type. Lovely head and expression, with good length of neck flowing into well laid shoulders and a sound front assembly. Well ribbed with good depth and a firm, level topline, holding a correct long and low outline with a pleasing underline. Good hindquarters completing a well constructed picture. Moved out well with a free, purposeful stride, maintaining his topline on the move. A very typical dog who was well deserving of his place. CC & BOB

2nd a smart black and tan dog of good type, presenting a pleasing outline and overall balance. Attractive head and expression, with good length of neck flowing into well placed shoulders. Well bodied with good ribbing and a firm topline, maintaining a correct long and low profile. Sound in construction throughout, with good hindquarters completing the picture. Moved out well with a free, steady action. Just preferred the overall finish and presence of the winner on the day, but a quality exhibit in his own right. RCC

Moved out soundly with a free, easy action, clearly enjoying his day. A credit to his owner and the breed.

Moved out well with a free, easy action, covering the ground confidently. A quality bitch who should continue to do well.

2nd Another pleasing red bitch of good type, slightly finer all through than the winner but still presenting a balanced outline. Feminine head with a kind expression and good reach of neck. Well laid shoulders and a neat front, with adequate ribbing and a firm topline. Perhaps just a shade longer in loin than ideal at this stage, but still maintaining a typical long and low silhouette. Moved soundly with a steady action, just not quite the same drive or overall finish as the first today. A promising bitch who should strengthen and improve with maturity.

A very smart black and tan bitch presenting an excellent outline, long, low and well balanced throughout. Particularly pleasing in head, with good length of muzzle and a clean, feminine expression. Lovely reach of neck flowing into well laid shoulders, with a firm topline and correct underline. Good length of body with well sprung ribs carried well back, giving that desirable overall shape. Strong hindquarters with good muscle tone, standing on neat, well placed feet. Moved soundly with purpose, covering the ground well and maintaining her outline on the move.

2nd A rich red bitch of good type, presenting a pleasing long and low outline. Nicely balanced overall with a smooth, well-coated appearance and good depth of colour. Feminine head with adequate length and a kind expression, leading into a clean neck and well laid shoulders. Good body length with well sprung ribs, Stood on sound legs with adequate bone, and moved steadily, maintaining her shape, a worthy second in good company, with much to like and should continue to do well.

Lovely feminine head with good length and clean lines, well carried on a nicely arched neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Excellent front assembly, with good depth and forechest. Body is a real strength,long without exaggeration, with well sprung ribs carried well back, firm topline and correct underline. Strong, well muscled hindquarters giving her power and drive. Stands on good legs and neat feet, and moves with purpose, maintaining her shape and showing good reach and drive. A quality bitch with much to admire, pushing hard for top honours and well deserving of her Reserve CC.

2nd Another quality red bitch, presenting a very pleasing outline and good overall balance. Feminine head with nice length and carried on a clean, well set neck. Good shoulder placement and a neat front, with adequate depth and well ribbed body. Maintains a firm topline and correct underline. Sound hindquarters with good muscle tone, standing on tidy feet. Moved steadily and true, holding her shape well on the move, just lacking a touch of the drive and presence of first. A very honest bitch with much to commend her, and pushed hard in a strong class.

A red bitch of excellent breed type, presenting a beautifully balanced and classic outline. Long, low and well proportioned, with a real ring presence that immediately draws the eye. Superb feminine head with good length and clean lines, showing a lovely expression. Excellent reach of neck flowing seamlessly into well laid shoulders and a correct front assembly. Body is a real strength, good length without exaggeration, well sprung ribs carried well back, firm topline and correct underline, all contributing to a very typical silhouette. Strong, well muscled hindquarters providing power and stability. Stands true on good legs and feet, and moves with purpose and drive, maintaining her shape throughout. Sound, balanced and true coming and going. A quality bitch who combines type, construction and movement in a very pleasing package. Well deserving of the CC and top honours today.

Good shoulder placement and a neat front, with a well proportioned body showing adequate length and ribbing. Maintains a firm topline and correct underline. Sound hindquarters with good muscle tone, standing on tidy feet. Moved steadily and true, holding her shape on the move, a quality bitch in her own right, and well deserving of her placing in strong company.

A lovely red veteran bitch who belies her age, presenting a very typical and well balanced outline. Still very much long and low, with good proportions and a pleasing overall picture. Feminine head with a gentle, kind expression, showing good length and clean lines. Nicely carried on a clean neck flowing into well placed shoulders and a neat front. Good length with well sprung ribs and a firm topline, holding her shape well. Particularly pleasing to see her condition and muscle tone at this stage of life. Sound hindquarters and stands on good legs and feet. Moved steadily and true, maintaining her outline and showing herself to advantage. A credit to her owner, presented in excellent condition and well deserving of Best Veteran in Breed.
