My sincere thanks to the Officers and Committee for their kind invitation to officiate here. My two stewards were a great support and kept things flowing nicely, and thanks also to the catering ladies who had been able to provide me with food to suit my dietary needs. For once I was not going home hungry after a show.
I have never made any secret that I have a special place in my heart for this breed. Few breeds have as much personality and presence packed into such a small body with all the personality traits of the Oriental breeds, and then some. This is a breed which talks to you, sometimes very loudly, with their eyes, and frequently makes me smile. It’s the ‘Independence’ factor at play for sure, which gets me every time.
I last judge the breed in 2017 at Crufts but give the size of that entry, and today’s which was excellent by current standards, it difficult to make a comparison of how the breed has changed in that time, if at all. There are with this breed, as there are in other breeds, that breeders having slightly different interpretations of the breed standard, but thankfully none of those interpretations were wildly exaggerated or lacking. I felt that there was a better depth of quality in the females overall. One issue I do feel that I need to comment on is there is a need to keep an eye on the is the set of the hock, a few could be much lower set.
Re depth of chest, we are looking for a good spring of rib but the chest needs to have depth too. This is a breed which evolved in the rarified atmosphere of Tibet. If there is insufficient depth to the chest, then the ribcage become barrelled, and would not necessarily allow room for good lung function. Although I only found two with this issue, it is not something the breed either wants or needs to become common place.

1st Thompson’s Susu Prince Charming ShEx VW
Tidy and balanced male, with a masculine head without any sign of coarseness. Head spot in for shape, ears well set and carried correctly, nicely cushioned muzzle. Short strong neck, pleasing shoulders with matching rear angles. Decent depth to the chest and well ribbed. Moved correctly and handled well. Looking very good for his age.
2nd. Tollan’s New Idea New Start Lucy’s Secret (Imp CZE)
Slightly younger than the winner, but also in very good condition. Head not so well balanced but still acceptable. Good neck and chest which had a decent depth to it, and adequate ribbing. Sound top line on both table and floor, slightly untidy on the move but when he concentrates on the job in hand, present as the breed standard calls for. Obviously enjoying his day out.

1st Lemon’s Oldcharm in Love Again
Very sweet head and beautiful expression, presents as if butter wouldn’t melt. Good muzzle and underjaw, very expressive eyes, nicely set ears although he did fly one at times. Decent neck, nicely placed shoulders, shape of chest good for his age. Quite good on the move but given his age I wouldn’t expect him to be perfect. He has fluidity in his movement, just not quite the precision as yet but it should come with time. No reason to doubt that he won’t have a bright future.
2nd Gilling’s Talocan Amazing Wizard
Similar comments as apply to the winner but perhaps a shade less confident at times. Pleasing head and expression, dark eyes, quite watchful and observant. Moderate neck, runs into well placed shoulders, neat top line, chest and ribs as appropriate to his age. Liked his overall balance, shade untidy at the rear, just needs to coordinate front and rear better.
3rd Bailey’s Oldcharm Deep In Love with Sagrael

1st Osbourne’s Glenbrook Brisca De Jardine at Thistletib (IKC)
Good overall make and shape, present a pleasing outline. Good shape to his head masculine enough, dark eyes and good muzzle. Surprisingly well muscled for his age, which showed in his movement, great control of shoulders and rear. Firm top line, good set to his tail which he carried with pride. Confident little chap. BPD
2nd McDonald’s Balgay Phyungba
Going over this one I thought that he may well win the class has he has so many assets to recommend him. Lovely head and expression, dark eyes and nicely set ears. Moderate neck and well placed shoulders, firm top line, rear angles compliment the front, but he just lacked that extra bit of confidence, especially on the move, therefore his movement was a shade erratic, moving perfectly at one stage, but less controlled at the next. He just needs a bit more self-belief.

1st Lemon’s Parloueve Love Explosion at Oldcharm
I don’t think this one needs anymore self-confidence than he already has. If he could have, he would have shouted look at me, he would have done. Decent head piece on him with correct balance of height to body ratio. Firm top line. However he is at an in between stage and needs to fill out bit more in body and muscle, maturity would allow him to present a better picture of himself. Typical teenager.
2nd Bailey’s Oldcharm Love Potion at Trevlabean
Another with a lovely head piece, good balance and expression, nicely cushioned muzzle. Carries slightly more body to him than the winner, but it needs to firm up all round. Lacks firm muscle on the shoulders as this shows in the front movement, which was quite loose at times, rear movement was far better. Like the winner maturity should do him well. As they are half brothers, I guess they are both going to be slow developers
3rd Tollan’s Souska My Head Goes Oooh to Anasmas
YD 4ent/0abs
1st Duncan’s Susu Appley Ever After JW
Very pleasing head, good dark eye and nicely set ears. Lovely neck and shoulders. Good depth of chest and spring of rib, top line very sound at all times. Front and rear angles match well and it shows so well in the movement. Is he finished yet, no, but when he is going to be a contender for top honours.
2nd McDonald’s Balgay Thangka.
I struggled to split these two. On construction they could be mistaken for full litter brothers, but they’re not, but do share similar heritage and from that they have both taken on excellent assets. Like the winner the good points shine easily, but he too needs to finish. I expect they will often be up against each other for top spot. Let the games begin.
3rd Kerr’s Vonvue Warrior Chief
PGD 4ent/0abs
1st Tollan’s Rosanley Tavernier to Anasmas
Slightly on the smaller side, but retains balance all round and still maintains masculinity Good shape to head, nice expression, very watchful eyes, misses nothing. Good neck and shoulders decent rear and sound top line. Movement is his superpower, light, fluid, free and clearly in his element
2nd Gilling’s Kentwone Epsilon of Talocan
Tidy male with good coat. Pleasing enough head and good expression, dark eye good muzzle. Moderate neck, sound top line moving and standing, good height to length ratio, pleasing angles fore and aft but he really needs to carry more body, looks quite adolescent at the moment.
3rd Abercrombie’s Souska Can We Talk to Tibwood
LD 8ent/0abs
1st McDonald’s Balgay Golden Ticket (AI) JW
Didn’t find anything I disliked on him at all, he just ticked all the boxes from start to finish. Added to that his presentation was top notch and his handler knew exactly how to get the best out of him. He has a very engaging expression, beautiful eyes with the duality of ‘butter wouldn’t melt’ and ‘mischief awaits you’. He left me in no doubt that he thought he owned the ring, and indeed he did DCC and BIS
2nd Smith’s Torfness Gamekeepers Vigil
I was equally smitten with this lad too My only negative with his was I would have liked to see a shade more coat and fringes, but as that is top dressing I forgave him. I really appreciated his overall construction and his foot perfect movement. Lovely body and muscle tone, head and expression spot on. Happily awarded him RDCC & RBIS
3rd Osbourne’s Parloueve Like A Prayer at Impycelyn
OD 6ent/1abs
Quite a mixed class on type and interpretation of the breed standard
1st Morton’s Linsdown Gibran
Honest as the day is long in fitting the breed standard for construction, lovely head and eyes, good ear set, quite an aloof expression, dismissed me with no more than a glance. Great shoulders with matching angles at rear. Excellent body and muscle, but just lacked a shade animation on the move,
2nd Cooper’s Ned Ch Dedicated to Legend Is Born Susu (Imp Ned)
Very good looking male, masculine without coarseness in both head and body, lovely height to length ratio. Nicely laid shoulders, firm top line nicely set on tail, good rear construction but needs far more body that he was carrying on the day.
3rd Juvonen Norsk, Nord, Int, Fin, Est Dnk, Lat, Lit Ch Skaidikurun

1st McDonald’s Ch Balgay Dru Ma
Quality male that has nothing about him to dislike. Pleasing head in all respects and possesses quite an aloof expressing, almost bordering on distain. Nicely proportioned body, firm top line, front and rear angle correct. I did consider him for the CC at one stage, but in the challenge, he decided he would prefer more of a stroll, unlike the quick and free movement he showed in the class. Nonetheless a worthy champion.
Sp Not Bred by Exh D 1ent/0abs
1st Tollan’s Rosanley Mcgregor to Anasmas
Pleasing head, nice eyes and well set ears, but he needs to learn that he does not need is tongue out at all times. Lacked a shade in underjaw. Good shoulders and rear, decent depth to chest, firm top line. Very solid and reliable on the move. Nicely coated and presented.
Sp Colour “A” Particolour D 1ent/0abs
1st Irvine’s Susu Life Of The Parti
Liked his head and expression, correct set to both eyes and ears, slightly mischievous expression which made me smile, but he behaved himself very well. Overall construction was good and moved soundly. Muscle tone good; coat I felt to be a little lacking in furnishings

1st Cooper & O’Brien’s Ch Susu Princess Spice Parti JW VW WW17
10 years old and other than she is a shade on the matronly side, one wouldn’t know it, she certainly doesn’t. What’s not to like about that head and expression, can look through and at you at the same time. Overall construction is as it should be and she can move, does so with the aim of catching the judge’s eye, and it worked. Worthy Champion.
2nd Coughtrie’s Tulibell Star Struck with Jazpiper JW ShCM VW
12 years old, but again, another one who isn’t aware of her age. Pleasing head, sound body and construction. She was clearly enjoying herself, even gave me a flutter of her eye lashes. Good presentation and moved well.
Veteran B 3ent/1abs
1st Adams’ Ch Balgay Okurimono ShEx
Very feminine head, but not at all weak, and knows how to carry it with nobility, could give deportment lessons. Good angles fore and aft, balanced in proportions all round, sound top line both on floor and table. Well-furnished ears and tail, and despite her light, quick fluid movement, managed to look like she was floating around the ring. Worthy Champion
2nd Thomson’s Tamrae Back To Rhedd
Lovely head and if one was ever to look the most typical expression this is your girl; She can look at you, and through you, and back again. Lovely dark eyes which are well set, as are her ears. Feminine all through, nicely muscled and bodied and proportioned so well, gives such a good outline. Front is sound but she was just a little stiff on the rear movement. Nonetheless, lots to like about her.
MPB 2ent/0abs
1st Lemon’s Parloueve Genuine Love
Don’t think this one had fully read the standard, ‘Aloof with strangers’ went out of the window and she doubled down on ‘Active and alert’. Very pretty feminine head, and her body and balance were spot on for her age. Her expression was a joy and a delight, very much the showgirl and I hope she doesn’t change. Once she gained full control of her movement, she was a pleasure to watch. Would have happily taken her home if allowed RBP in S
2nd Gilling’s Talocan All Eyes On Me
Appropriate kennel name, she certainly has lots of appeal. Nice head and expression, a shade more restrained than the winner in character. Not greatly happy on the table, however, on the floor she regained her confidence a showed her attributes. Nicely constructed and can move correctly
PB 4ent/1abs
1st Gilling’s Tallocan This Is Me
Litter sister to the 2nd in the MPB class but with far more confidence at all times. She has lots about her to like too, pretty and feminine head, balance is as it should be, nicely bodied for age and moves with purpose and confidence. If she stays on track should have a bright future
2nd Lemon’s Parloueve Mystical Magical
Black and tan girl, pleasing enough head and expression, although she did appear to scowl at times, more at her handler than she did at me. Liked her overall construction which is commensurate with her age. She is more than capable of moving perfectly, but needs to realise is should be for the full duration, rather than when she feels like it.
3rd Abercrombie’s Tibwood It Means Beautiful
JB 5ent/0abs A really lovely and interesting class
1st Cooper’s Susu The Show Must Go On
Head is timeless, expression had something quite old fashioned about it which really chimed with me, took me back to one of the kennels of years ago. She clearly understands how to carry herself, her movement was faultless. She is nicely muscled and bodied and nothing about her I would want to change. Surely she must have a bright future. RBCC
2nd O’Brien’s Mullagh Grainne Mhaol
Slightly larger frame that winner, but her balance was commensurate with size. Pleasing head, typical expression, shoulders well placed, firm top line both moving and standing and didn’t put a foot wrong. Lovely brisk and fluid movement
3rd Smith’s Torfness Spirit In The Sky
YB 1ent/0abs
1st Lemon& Horton’s Oldcharm My Kinda Love at Dixpat
I think this one would almost be able to show herself without a handler, knows what to do and how to do it, except she did seem to get distracted by something on occasions going around, but she was much better on the up and back. Good head, typical expression, understands how to be aloof when examined, is very outgoing when on the floor. Seems to want to put her mark how she is shown. Overall a quality bitch
PGB 6ent/2abs
1st Smith’s Torfness White Witches Kiss
Very business-like in her attitude, she knows she is quality and with a bit more maturity will likely trouble the best. Liked her head and expression, decent depth to chest, nicely ribbed back, sound top line. Moves exactly like she supposed to. Won the class easily
2nd Gilling’s Ya Asia Ilharess of Talocan
Not quite sure what was going on with this one, pleasing enough head and expression, outline was very pleasant, top line was firm both standing and moving, shoulders felt fine, but coming towards she was very erratic, rear movement was better. Think she may have been having an off day.
3rd Tollan’s Betranna Ara Minta
LB 10ent/0abs A strong class
1st Lemon’s Parloueve Love Me Better
This girl just put everything out there, she had strong competition in the class and bitch challenge, but pulled everything out of the bag, put it out on show as and when she need to, and dared me not to. Nothing I would change about her at all. BCC
2nd McDonald & O’Brien’s Balgay Gold Digga
Unfortunate to meet the winner and the junior bitch but I am sure her day will come. She exudes quality all round, the most typical expression one could wish to see. Super outline, lovely coat, so nice to see a defined shawl, and moves as she is supposed to do.
3rd Cooper & O’Brien’s Susu Party Like A Rockstar
OB 7ent/0abs
1st Smith’s Torfness Fire and Blood
She is a very typical example of the breed nothing about her overdone or exaggerated. Pleasing head and neck, shoulders nicely laid, decent depth to chest and a firm top line. Well-muscled throughout and foot perfect, which what won her the class
2nd Thomson’s Ch Tamrae Parti With The Stars
Very sweet bitch who understands her own importance, those eyes say it all. Lovely head, correct neck and shoulder, good top line, correct angles at the rear. The only thing which split her from the winner was she was marginally less animated on the move, but still a worthy champion nonetheless.
3rd Tollan’s Anasmas Godiva
Sp Bred by Exh B 4ent/0abs
1st Smith’s Torfness Phancy Kisses
Half-sister to the winner of open but so very much out of the same mould, every that I said about her assets, applies to this one too. Definitely a consistency to the breeding plan. She carries marginally more weight and that showed slightly in her movement
2nd Abercrombie’s Tibwood She Tells Our Story
Nice enough head and expression, decent front firm top line, and a good rib cage but at the moment she needs to be carrying more body to her. That said she has a lean muscle and she knows how to move
3rd Coughtrie, Hendry & Paterson’s Jazpiper Blue Eyed Girl
Sp Not Bred by Exh B 1ent/0abs
1st Thomson’s Crockerne Love To Talk with Tamrae
Very typical bitch, nicely constructed all round, has a certain presence which she conveys with those eyes. Pleasing head, one of the better muzzles over the day, has a really good underjaw. Decent depth to chest, good ribcage sound topline and moves well.
Sp Colour “A” Particolour B 3ent/1abs
1st Susu Parti Like A Rockstar
She place 3rd in a strong limit class and was determined she was going to win this one, never stopped showing for a moment, and at one with her handler. Presents a good outline, balanced throughout. Sweet head and expression, correct construction of front and rear angles, which shows in her positive movement.
2nd McDonald’s Balgay Rtsod Pa Ngar Po Zhig
Pleasing head and expression, although she did give me the impression she was not entirely happy with something at times. There was a shade too much of her for me and she was a little solid in her build. She was somewhat distracted on the move, but when no so, she moves well.
Sp Colour “B” Black and Tan B 2ent/1abs
1st Bruce’s Betranna At-Lanta
She has a relatively profuse coat yet still managed to present a good outline. Her head is her nicely shaped, and under that coat she has a good body. Deep chest and well ribbed. She has white feathering on her feet which distracts the eye when coming toward, and would benefit a little attention. One has to watch the footfall carefully to see that she has good front movement
Ch B 3ent/0abs
1st O’Brien’s Ir Ch Mullagh Susie Sue
Construction-wise on this one there was nothing I felt that needed to be changed, other than her size. For my taste she did have enough femininity. Head is balanced, neck strong, firm top line, good angle fore and aft and movement foot perfect. It was on the basis of her excellent movement and construction she took the class.
2nd Morton’s Ch Linsdown Jodha
Nicely made bitch all round, no disputing this, nothing to dislike but I found her to be a little staid on the move, lack the brisk, movement I was looking for.
