Manchester Dog Show Society

Breed: Yorkshire Terrier

I was pleased to be invited to judge Yorkshire Terriers at the Manchester Championship Show; however, the day was marred by negative and unnecessary comments from some exhibitors. This was particularly disappointing given the current decline in breed numbers, when the Yorkshire Terrier needs support rather than division. While the breed remains generally sound, there are clearly several differing types now being presented, some of which, in my opinion, are moving away from the Yorkshire Terrier as defined by the UK Breed Standard. This trend is concerning and should not be ignored. I was, however, very pleased with my eventual winners and would like to thank those exhibitors who entered under me and accepted my decisions with courtesy and sportsmanship.
