Judging Critique by Mark Boswell

Cocker Spaniels.

Firstly a few things I need to say here. Many associations go and put on a show each year without any thanks or praise. Well this committee all seemed to work hard and the weather was glorious. My 2 stewards Mark and Joyce are just amazing, they kept me hydrated and inline, absolutely brilliant stewards, thank you both.

Cockers in general are in a good state. Please watch tails, flying high or not wagging. Where is the ,” merry cocker.” Some exhibits with strange eyes and foreign heads. Lack of rib and body. Unfortunate presentation, lack of trimming (the cocker way) and certainly a few needing a bath.

Special Beginners Dog or Bitch

1st Brothwell’s Wilanorah Sat’day Nite Diva at Wissant. Well presented neat 2 year old bitch. Pretty head, eye and expression. Well presented, moved and showed well.

2nd Miller’s Eddeswarren Emerald City. 3 year old male, plenty of work in the head. Moved ok and well presented. 

Minor puppy dog

1st Norie-Miller’s Ryallcourt Rocket Man With Tanrini. Very smart, clean and well presented 8 month old minor puppy. Full of mischief and quality. Super head, eye and expression. Correct compact body, strong topline. Moved well, freely and happy . Loved him. BPD & BPIB

2nd Warrington’s Zakova Cracksman. Nice type, strongly built 9 month old male. Masculine and very promising throughout. Moved and showed well, good body and depth.

3rd Pop’s Merrysoul Gossip Starts Here at Bocablue.

Puppy dog

1st Masters and Dott’s Manchela Ring of Fire. Such a well presented 10 month old blue puppy. Correct in head, eye and expression. Good reach of neck and strong quarters. Moved freely with drive. A lovely balanced cocker.

2nd Kew’s Lujesa Paperback Writer With Wylyeview. An up to size 11 month old male who just needs to mature and drop into himself . Promising and well presented.

3rd Babester’s Antonio Des Deux Camelias.

Junior dog

1st Harrison’s Glenbrows Galanthus. Smart black and white male that needs to be handled to appreciate his many qualities. Strong in head, clean eye and expression. Enough neck into good strong shoulders accessing a super front. Well sprung ribs, short and compact. Excellent tail carriage and movement. So very well presented. DCC.

2nd McBrides Topday Break Dancer. Quality type of blue roan male. Good head, eye and expression. Super neck and shoulders. Moved ok and well handled, I felt lacked body and drive and thought the heat may have got to him on the day.

3rd Maguire’s Corralet Quenamon.

Yearling dog

1st McBrides Topday Northern Dancer. Another quality male from this kennel. Pleasing head, eye and expression. Correct topline and movement , showed well. Just needs body to complete the picture. I’m sure he will have a fantastic future.

2nd Pops Merrysoul Everbody’s Talking at Bocablue. Well presented male. Super bone, body, legs and feet. Moved well, a very honest type.

3rd Saunders Aylesmead Just The Tikkit at Oxfordogs.

Graduate dog.

1st Masters and Dott’s Fellini Of La Vie Magnifique at Manchela (imp Hun) JW. Lovely headed liver roan male. Super neck and shoulders, plenty of bone. Super coat and condition. Plenty of time for this very promising cocker.

2nd Maguire’s Suguire’s Truly Special. 2 year old well presented male. Good in head and eye. Short and compact. Correct dentition. Moved well.

3rd McShane’s Delightful Hunter London Eye at Meggiemac.

Post Graduate Dog

1st Craig’s Riondel Amadeus at Alisma. Honest 20 month old blue male. Stylish and moved out well, keeping his topline . Strong head, legs and feet. Short and compact.

2nd Shapland’s Deracor Duty Paid. Honest in head, body, legs and feet. Pleasing to go over. I felt he needed to move out more but I felt he might have been restricted with his handler today.

3rd Covington’s Delightful Hunter Legendary at Silverdust JW.

Limit dog

1st Cox and Dewhurst’s Ryallcourt Charm of Unique to Suvern (Ai). 2 year old black and white male I have liked for some time. I wasn’t disappointed. Strong head, tight dark eye and melting expression. Super neck, shoulders and body. Well presented and moved well. Pressed hard for top honours. RDCC.

2nd Ward’s Whinburn Walk The Moon to Wensum JW. 2 year old strong masculine black . Honest and lots to like from head, eye and expression to good body. Compact with good front. Moves well with drive form behind.

3rd Warrington’s Zakova Wise Guy JW.

1st Brennan’s IrShCh Charbonnel Chaperone At Kerrijoy Jun Ch JW. Headed a super quality class. Excellent presentation. Good head, eye and expression. Correct body shape and front assembly . Moved well with drive and purpose well handled. 

2nd Babester’s Ch Black Delja’s Inno D’italia. 5 year old male that has a lot to offer the breed. Good in head, strong body, legs and feet. Honest throughout . Moved well with drive.

3rd Zemanova’s Int Ch JunCh Unique Team Style of Mary .

Veteran Dog 

1st Grist’s Kasordan Firestarter. Don’t ask me why but this dog always makes me emotional. Such a beautiful and honest dog, put down to perfection as always by this lady. Super clean throughout, lovely head, eye, front , body, legs and feet. I just want a little bit more of him.

2nd Warrington’s Zakova Sunburst. Another honest dog with plenty to like and has such typical cocker qualities. I feel the heat got to him today too.

3rd Driver’s Annilann Mister Spangles at Beckaby JW.

Minor Puppy Bitch 

1st Harrison’s Manjuno’s Blue Diamond at Glenbrows (Naf). Sweet headed blue baby having all the qualities that one would need to start her career. Dark eye, correct bite, super neck and shoulders. Compact deep body. The best of legs and feet. Shall watch her career with interest. 

2nd Warrington’s Zakova Jäger Bomb. Smart 9 month old black bitch who has all the qualities to go to the top. Moved well.

3rd Ozanne and Smith’s Derrindee Dream Destiny For Lyntonwold.

Puppy bitch 

1st Beswick’s Kirlinji’s Espresso Martini For Cachel. I’ve watched this beautiful puppy from the ringside and couldn’t wait to handle her. A striking black and white feminine head, dark eye and lovely ear placement. Super neck and shoulders leading to a short deep compact body. Strong legs and feet. Moved well and so nicely presented. BPB

2nd Darby’s Pearkim Pardalotidae Dargress. Another honest type of blue. Pleasing head, eye and expression . Short deep compact body. Moved and showed well just needs a bit more body to complete the picture. 

3rd Dutchak’s Eastdray Everlasting Star.

Junior Bitch

1st White’s Granrose A Flash of Topaz. Feminine headed blue bitch. Not long out of puppy having many good qualities. Good neck, shoulders and body. Correct front assembly using her tail on the move. Well presented.

2nd Pop’s Manacas Had You at Hello for Bocablue. Another lovely type blue. Unfortunate to meet 1st on such form. Has many qualities of the above, just needed a bit more of her. Moved and showed well.

3rd Whitehead’s Crowmere Candy Floss.

Yearling Bitch 

1st Mitchell’s Glowhill Candy Corn. Excellent type, mature in body. Sweet feminine head . Good legs and feet , moved and showed well. 

2nd Masters and Dott’s Manchela Soul Sister. Loved her many qualities. Sweet head, good neck and shoulders. Correct topline. Needs to mature to complete the picture. Showed and presented well as always from this breeder. 

3rd White’s Granrose A Flash of Topaz.

Graduate Bitch

1st Salmon’s Crimicar Blu Diamond JW. Such a well presented bitch, two years old excellent body properties, head neck and shoulders. Correct front assembly good rear action moving well with drive and purpose.

2nd Whiting’s Annilann Miss Woopsi Poopsi JW. Nice type of Blue. Sweet expression. Good body, legs and feet moved okay.

3rd Ward’s Whinburn Nothern Lights Over Wensum.

Post Graduate bitch.

1st Blackley and Solero’s Wightroche Calla Lilly. Nice three years old feminine black bitch. Correct shape and size with good front and rear. Moved and showed well.

2nd Driver and Walker’s Brackenjack Bit Of Allsorts at Beckaby. Five year-old bitch slightly longer in cast than first place. Another one that moved and showed well.

Limit Bitch

1st Bowen’s Glowhill Annika at Lararth. Top drawer quality feminine Blue bitch three years old. Super head, legs and feet. Short deep compact body. Excellent front and rear assembly, moved out well, pushed hard for top honours.

2nd Blackley and Solero’s Wightroche The Bee JW. Super black bitch that excelled in head body and topline . Using tail on the move. Excellent feet and presentation.

3rd Pop’s Merrysoul Donatello Versace with Bocablue. 

Open Bitch

1st Brennan’s IrShCh Sparklette Shines at Charbonnel JunCh C.I.B-j JW. I loved this quality feminine Black bitch who was in excellent coat and condition. Correct head, eye, expression. Super neck and shoulders. Compact deep body with lovely angulation and front assembly. A credit to her owner/handler. Pushed hard for top honours. 

2nd Babester’s Kalispell’s Veronica Mars. I so wanted to take this lovely bitch home with me. Beautiful head neck and shoulders. Correct compact body, moved and showed well.

3rd Wildman’s Shch Glantreath Ovation At Oktumi.

Veteran Bitch

1st Hillier’s ShCh Coedcernyw Calendar Girl JW. Wow, nine years old and was my star of the day. Although I have judged her before I found that like a glass of red wine she matures well with age. This lovely headed bitch was shining from head to tail. Wonderful expression, clean neck and well placed shoulders. Deep compact body keeping her top line on the move. Super legs and feet. Stunning presentation. I was proud to her award her the CC, best of breed and best veteran in breed. She went on to win best veteran in show. What a fantastic result, well done. 

2nd Driver’s Annilann Miss Magicstar at Beckaby. I liked this quality Blue bitch who moved with drive and was a true show girl.
