Firstly, I would like to thank you to the committee for the kind invitation to judge at this super friendly show and for the wonderful buffet lunch. Also thanks to my stewards who kept everything running smoothly.
I always had a lovely day when I stewarded for the GWP Club in the past so I knew I was in for a fun day. I was pleased with the entry, both numerically and in quality. I liked many of the dogs in the entry, I for that reason I feel like I’m being a little repetitive in my critique. The final challenges where nit picking.
Some of the youngsters had the wind in their tails, which made me smile. Having Flatcoats, I can appreciate how hard they can be when they’re just a bit full of themselves!
Puppy Dog (1)
1st Vine & Hassell’s Urvum Hero at Beanalrem (Imp Ita)
What a way to start the day! Beautiful puppy and at just 10mths he is already a contender. Balanced, clean head with good furnishings. Strong, neck in to sloping shoulders, well placed elbows and quality bone. He already shows balance through his body with deep rib and good loin. He has quality bone without being over done. His rear balances his lovely front and I was delighted to award him BPIS and after a final run off I couldn’t deny him RBD against a worthy ShCh.
Junior Dog (1)
1st Cuthill’s Caldewriver Kong Quest
Another with a lovely head, which is in proportion to his body, showing good width in skull and nice eye shape. Balanced through the body with well placed elbows. He needs to drop a little in rib but at this age it will come. He is firm in topline with well placed tail which was carried well on the move. He gave his handler a hard time on the move but so was a little difficult to assess, but he went with a good stride in profile. Presented in hard condition.
Special Yearling Dog (1)
1st Mallinson & McLaughlin’s Woodybrook Guy
Stronger made dog with plenty of facial furnishings. Oval eye but would prefer it a little darker. Strong, clean neck which leads well to his firm back. Good length of rib and strong loin. Well arched toes giving compact feet. On the move he had the wind in his tail and gave his handler a challenge.

Limit Dog (2,2abs)
Open Dog (4) This was a lovely class. All worthy title holders. Thank you.
1st Johnston’s ShCh/BelCh Glenquin The General
This boy caught my eye as he entered the ring. He’s all male of such balance, strong but not coarse. His head is very balanced with good skull to muzzle ratio. He has correct eye shape of dark colour. His neck is strong, clean and of good length with a strong, level topline down to his well set tail. He shows good width and depth with of rib with well placed elbows. His rear is balanced with his front with strong thighs which enables him to cover plenty of ground, being true going away and coming back. In hard condition and harsh jacket. Very pleased to award him BD & BOS.
2nd Turnbull & Keene’s ShCh Glenquin The Colonel At Elgram JW
Litter brother to 1 and it shows so many of the same remarks apply. He has a super head and furnishings. Lovely body proportions and is currently in a tighter jacket. Moved out well with good open stride. I just preferred the tailset and carriage of the brother today.
3rd O’Brien’s ShCh Caldewriver Cold As Ice
Veteran Dog (2,1abs)
1st O’Connor’s ShCh Karlejay Gump They Live In Yu
Medium sized 7.5 year old with a lovely head and eye. He is strong in neck and sloping shoulders. He has balanced angulation front and rear with quality bone and tight feet. He maintains a strong topline which he holds on the move. He was true both ways when asked to go round the ring. BVD

Minor Puppy Bitch(1)
1st O’Connor’s Karlejay Gump Forrest Fire
Sweet baby of just 7mths. She has a super head with a naughty expression that just made me smile. Everything is in the right place for her age. Lovely flow from her neck all the way to her well set tail. She is deep enough rib with good width and elbow placement. I liked her front angulation and her well developed rear. She was very happy on the move, covering plenty of ground in profile. I will watch her with interest. BPB.

Junior Bitch (1)
1st Jones’ Caldewriver Tiger Lily Via Mustwork
Another attractive youngster with much to like. She was so full of herself! Medium sized, with a beautiful head and nice amount of beard furnishings. Adequate, clean neck. Her rear shows well developed thigh and short hocks. She is mature in body and is in hard condition. Good depth and width of rib with correct loin. She moved so well with long stride with tail carried in line with her back.
Special Yearling Bitch (0)
Post Graduate Bitch (1)
1st Jones’ Mustwork Maximum Effect
She stood beautifully to be gone over but when asked to move was rather distracted by a bird, proving that is certainly has gundog instinct! She has a good outline with quality bone and good feet. She has balanced angulation and shows no hint of coarseness. Board skull with slight rounding and a good eye shape. Once she settled on the moved she went on a free stride.
Limit Bitch (2,1abs)
1st Turnbull & Keene’s Kimmax Two Kan Play at Elagram (AI)
This girl showed beautifully, despite distractions. She is a little stronger in head, though still feminine, with plenty of beard. Clean in neck, strong in topline and well set tail. She has strong bone with compact feet. She was good on the move, going at a steady pace.

1st Johnston’s ShCh/BelCh Glenquin Athena
A bitch I have done well as a youngster and I have not changed my opinion of her. She has matured into a very classy girl. Beautiful head and expression, good amount of facial furnishings. Strong in neck and well angulated in front, giving deep rib of good width. Well placed elbows giving clean front movement. Well developed thigh and short hocks to provide drive. Her topline is strong and her tailset continues the line of her back and is carried well on the move. At almost 8 years old she has lovely open stride in profile, covering the ground with ease. Delighted to award her BB and later BIS along with BVIS.
2nd O’Brien’s ShCh Caldewriver Storm N’ Teacup For Katillien JW
Younger bitch of a different type but still with much to like. She is so well balanced which shows in her profile movement. She has an attractive head and eye with well placed ears. She has a beautiful rear with excellent angulation and short hocks. Her tail is well set and is carried well on the move. I like her depth of chest which leads to her nicely tucked up loin. Her front is well built and in balance with her rear which enabled her to move with efficient, ground covering stride. Pleased to award her RBB and RBIS.
3rd McCullough’s ShCh Kimmax Kindly Stand Back
Veteran Bitch (2) Two very different bitches here.
1st O’Connor’s ShCh Karlejay Gump Circle Of Life
A pleasing head on this medium sized 7.5 year old. She is nicely angulated all round with well placed elbows and deep chest of good width. She retains a good topline and has good width of thigh. She was in better coat than 2 and was more animated on the move which won her the class BVB.
2nd Johnston’s ShCh/Bel Ch Canis Fortuna Harda
Almost 10 years old. This girl still has lots to like. Her head is of good proportion and nicely furnished. She has good length of neck and she is well developed in the body. Her rear is nicely angulated and she is short in the hock. On the move she didn’t go with as much enthusiasm as 1 but was straight coming and going.
