Irish Wolfhound - Judge: Mrs Lisa Reid

Thank you to everyone who entered under me, I really enjoyed judging your lovely hounds – you have such a special breed. Types were mixed on the day, temperaments were excellent.

CLASS 221 – PUPPY DOG — No entries

CLASS 222 – POST GRADUATE DOG (2 entries, 1 absent)

1st: 10442 Hanlon’s Strathmithie Ghillie Pot at Achnagonlan, D 2yrs 4mths. -Handsome, upstanding grey boy with a good head and symmetrical outline. Kind dark eye, good muzzle planes and depth, strong jaw, nicely tucked ears. Strong neck set into a moderately angled front, would prefer more return of upper arm. Good bone on parallel forelegs, good feet. Good top line, body could have a little more length to complete the picture, nicely arch over the loin. Chest could be deeper but still maturing. Nicely balanced rear angulation with low hock and good tail. Moved true, both coming and going with an active stride.

CLASS 223 – OPEN DOG (6 entries, 2 absent) A class of very mixed types.

1st: 10446 Robertson & Sillars’ Bellanaguna Fingal Boy of Inisshroin (IKC), D 3yrs 8mths - Smallest of the class but still a good size and well proportioned, this light grey boy won on his overall balance. Nice head with good proportions. Long, strong muzzle. Correct ear set. Long arched neck inserted smoothly into a well constructed shoulder. Elbows well placed under his withers with good infill of chest. Parallel forelegs of good bone, round feet. Liked his length to height proportions. He as well ribbed, extending well back and to a strong loin. Good topline and tailset. Good rear angulation with excellent width of thigh and good turn of stifle, low hocks. He moved with a free and easy stride, true in all directions. Best Dog & Best of Breed

2nd: 10451 Weddell’s Barrassy Spitfire (AI), D 3yrs 11mths - Strong powerful male of good size, balance and type. Has a kind well proportioned head. Broad chest with good infill. Parallel forelegs with strong bone, good feet. Nice length and depth of body, with good top and underlines. Moderate angulation both ends. Good turn of stifle with good width to 2nd thigh. He would benefit from some ring training to get the best from him. Lovely temperament, he moved with an easy stride. Reserve Best Dog

3rd: 10437 Allison & Falconer’s Stonestorm Argyll, D 2yrs 9mths

CLASS 224 – SPECIAL BEGINNERS DOG (1 entry)

1st: 10448 Scott’s Extraordinary Enar of Cubadel at Malinkey, D 1yr 1mth - Sweet boy of good size who I feel is at that awkward ‘in between’ stage of growing at the moment, clearly still very raw. Long on the leg and a bit narrow, he needs to relax into his angulation. Showing good structure, just needs the body to catch up. Lovely head, kind dark eye. Excellent, strength and depth of muzzle. Parallel forelegs with excellent bone. Nice length of ribbing giving strong topline, strong loin. Moderate angles both ends. Lovely temperament and well handled with a nice bond between him and his handler. He moved with a free stride when he settled into it.

Dark eye, kind expression. Enough infill in her chest which is a good width for her age. Parallel forelegs well positioned underneath to support her frame and of good bone. Round feet with arched toes. Strong, arched neck leading into a well constructed shoulder, good return of upper arm. Good length of ribbing extending well back, strong arched loin. Nicely constructed rear with a low strong hock. She moved with a free, easy stride. Best Puppy & Best Special Beginner
