Basset Griffon Vendeen (Petit)
Judge: Miss L Tarabad (Khatibi)
I hadn’t judged the breed for 4 years so I was really excited for the appointment as this breed really is one of my favourites to judge! I certainly wasn’t disappointed with this lovely entry and was very pleased that we were first in the ring and finished before it got too hot for the dogs (and me!) The bitch entry was particularly nice with plenty of quality throughout the classes and a really lovely lineup for the challenge.

1ST Beaujons Vagabond of Monkhams ShCEx VW (Mrs L C & Mrs J Skerritt & Betts) 8 yrs old, good for size and balance with strong neck, straight front, could have better shoulders, good ribbing, firm topline, strong rear with tail set and carried correctly. Nice head and expression with correctly set short ears, square muzzle, big black nose and strong jaw. Moved freely with smart profile action. BV

1ST Rangali Franknfurter (Miss M & Mrs H Allenby) This 7month old was an easy winner here outmoving the competition, handled to an advantage and I see is actually the son of my BP from 4 years ago! Impressive outline with good neck and decent shoulders, good chest and ribbing for age, firm topline, strong loin and well angulated rear. Super head and cheeky expression, fairly dark eyes, short square muzzle, defined stop, short fine ears and strong jaw. Covers the ground well in profile, accurate out and back and is presented in a quality rough jacket to finish the picture. Obviously has plenty of maturing to do but I doubt it’ll be long before he’s a contender for top honours. BP
2ND Soletrader Field Marshal (Mrs A J Fordham) This 8 month old had a typical independent attitude, I’m not so sure he was willing to please!! I see this one is a son of my BCC/BOB 4 years ago and if I remember correctly she was a cheeky one herself!! Soundly constructed with nice balance to his outline, level topline, good tailset and carriage, short legs, fairly straight in front, well ribbed back to strong loin and well angulated rear. Masculine head with lovely dark eyes, could be a touch shorter in muzzle, big black nose and good furnishings enhancing his expression. Once he settled he did manage to move with a nice profile action covering the ground fairly well and was better out and back than 3. Just needs a little more practice to make the best of himself.

1ST Soletrader Puppet Master (Mrs S, Mr O & Miss E Robertson) Not long out of puppy but already fairly mature and presenting an impressive outline with proud head carriage, firm topline and well balanced length of body. Long neck into good shoulders, straight front with good bone and feet, well ribbed back to strong loin, compact and strong with super rear assembly and well set and carried tail. Masculine head of good proportions with fairly dark eyes, square muzzle with strong jaw, big black nose and low set, fine ears. Impressed on the move, lively and active, covering the ground with a lovely length of stride with outline firm. The best dogs in the entry all had different qualities to admire but for me this youngster ticked the most boxes and demanded attention every time he entered the ring and so was rewarded with the CC which I later found out was his all important crowning CC, congratulations!
2ND Soletrader Basil Fawlty (Ms L & Mr P Guernari & Dane) Another nice one, unlucky to meet 1 here and returned to the next class and topped that with ease. A touch longer than 1 but still has a lovely topline, balanced angulation fore and aft, good chest and ribbing, super bone and substance, well muscled and was presented in beautiful coat and condition. Handsome, well furnished head with large dark eyes, low set ears, square muzzle and strong jaw. Moved well, free and accurate in all directions.

1ST Maudaxi Billy Bookcase (Mr P & Mrs D Reid) Lovely for type, compact with good bone and substance and presented in a quality harsh jacket. Straight front, could have a touch more neck, balanced front and rear angulation, firm topline and good tail. Handsome head with beautiful dark eyes and alert expression, defined stop, correct length of muzzle and strong jaw. Moved well, accurate out and back, holding a firm outline in profile.
2ND Cynetkoy's Tinker Tailor (Ms L & Mr P Guernari & Dane) Flashy mover carrying himself confidently around the ring with a nice outline, Lovely neck, decent shoulders, very good chest and ribbing, could stand a little straighter in front, strong loin, well angulated rear with tail set and carried correctly. Strong, masculine head with alert expression. In correctly presented rough coat and handled to an advantage.

1ST Made U Look Big Apple Bonanza Isr/nord Jch (Miss Karen Gudbjartsdottir) Immediately stood out in this nice class and continued to impress on closer inspection. Short legged and compact with a great attitude, super coat and in optimum condition. Strong neck, super topline and tail, lovely chest and ribbing, well angulated fore and aft with good bone and feet. I would just like him a touch longer in body for ideal balance. Delightful head and expression, square muzzle, short low set ears, big black nose and large oval eyes. Active and free on the move, covering the ground with ease, super out and back. Very close decision in the challenge but I just preferred the outline of the younger dog so he had to settle for the RCC.
2ND Ch Vencharno Stuck On You (Mrs C & Miss C Dalgarno) Smart outline with lovely neck, straight front, balanced front and rear angulation, well ribbed back to strong loin, firm topline and well set and carried tail. Correctly shaped head with well balanced length of muzzle, nice eyes and sweet expression. Moved freely with decent reach and drive. Handled expertly.

1ST Jamar Ina The Countessa (Mrs J Bishop) Good for size with nicely balanced length of body, deep chest, good ribbing, topline rises to the rear and could be stronger behind. Pleasant head and expression with good ears and nice eyes. Moved ok.

1ST Rangali Columbia (Miss M & Mrs H Allenby) Litter sister to the bp and they are very similar. Beautiful feminine head, well balanced with large dark eyes, square muzzle, defined stop, strong jaw and super expression. Long neck, could have a little more angulation in front, level topline, short loin and strong rear. Moved with purpose, head carried proudly and driving well from behind. A little narrow all through at the moment but with maturity should finish nicely. Was a close decision for bp but her brother just had the edge on the day.
2ND Beaujons Susannah (Mr S R & Mrs L Wood) Nice for size and balance of outline, enough neck but a little upright in front, good ribbing, moderately angulated rear with tail set and carried well. Pretty head with low set fine ears, large eyes, correct length of muzzle and intelligent expression. Moved soundly but could have more reach and drive.

1ST Soletrader Sybil Fawlty (Mrs E Cadmore) Exciting youngster who really impressed for type and balance. Long neck into decent shoulders, straight front, well ribbed back to short loin with firm topline, well angulated rear with tail set and carried well. Correctly shaped head carried proudly, feminine and well furnished with correct length of muzzle, defined stop, strong jaw and lovely big dark eyes. Free and accurate on the move maintaining her lovely outline, presented in a quality jacket and handled expertly. I considered her in the challenge but at 13months she still has to mature and fill out so the more mature bitches were triumphant this time however I doubt it will be long before she’s taking home the green cards!
2ND Soletrader Golly Miss Molly (Miss C L & Mrs E Cooper & Cadmore) Similar age to 1 and sister to the DCC but less mature in body and mind and certainly enjoyed giving her handler a hard time! Super outline, short legged with well balanced length of body, good chest and ribbing and well angulated rear. Such a pretty, feminine head with the naughtiest expression, good ears, correct length of muzzle and big black nose. Really didn’t help herself on the move which was a shame as I had previously judged her as a puppy at an open show where she moved beautifully. Another exciting youngster who will have better days.

1ST Maudaxi Rebel Diamonds JW (Mr P & Mrs D Reid) An easy winner here, lovely front assembly, straight front, good shoulders, deep chest and good ribbing. Level topline, high set tail and strong, well angulated rear. Lovely head and expression, large dark eyes, square muzzle and low set fine ears. Impressed on the move with a free, accurate gait, super out and back and carrying herself well in profile. In correctly presented rough coat.
2ND Soletrader Prue Leith (Mrs A & Mrs E Granum & Cadmore) Nice for outline and balance, could stand a little straighter in front, good ribbing, well angulated rear with tail set and carried correctly. Nice head with well balanced length of muzzle, strong jaw, dense pigment, eyes could be a little darker. Moved happily.

1ST Overbecks Ruby Shelby (Mrs L & Mrs S Scott & Brundle) I was really taken by this one and the more I saw of her the more I liked! Compact and well balanced with super bone and substance, lovely neck and shoulders, super chest and ribbing, short strong loin, well angulated rear with good tail set and carriage. Beautiful head with dark oval eyes, square muzzle, strong jaw and short low set ears. Her movement gave her the edge over some lovely bitches in the challenge, free and accurate with good reach and drive, nice out and back and all the while holding her outline firm. Presented in super harsh jacket and lovely condition. RCC.
2ND Beaujons Leading Lady JW (Mr S R & Mrs L Wood) Nice size with enough neck, could be straighter in front, well ribbed back, balanced angulation, could be firmer in topline. Feminine head with nice eyes and expression. Moved happily.
3RD Probert Calypso (Mr & Mrs R Moore)
Open Bitch
A lovely class with all 3 beautiful examples of the breed, I would happily sign a cc for any of them.

1ST Ch Soletrader Fomo (Mrs S, Mr O & Miss E Robertson) Nearing 2 years old and even in this lovely entry this one had something extra special which made her unbeatable. Spot on for size, shape and balance, every inch the showgirl never putting a foot wrong, her rapport with her handler is a pleasure to see. Strong neck into good shoulders, deep chest, straight front, tight elbows and good ribbing, Perfect topline and tail carriage, short strong loin, well angulated rear with hocks well let down, good bone and feet. Prettiest of heads, correctly shaped and proportioned with intelligent expression and that hint of mischief I find impossible to resist! Her movement was a joy to watch; active, free and accurate, head held proudly, topline firm, reaching well in front and driving from behind. In immaculate condition and correctly presented harsh jacket, handled to an advantage and obviously has the most delightful temperament. I thought she was fabulous and the standout exhibit in the entry, she was an easy choice for the BCC and BOB.
2ND Ch Soletrader Fun Times for Rangali JW (Miss M & Mrs H Allenby) Another lovely one who was bp last time I judged, mother of both puppy class winners this time and was looking fabulous considering she had obviously had a litter just 7 months ago. Feminine, strong and compact with well balanced length of body, ample reach of neck into good shoulders, firm topline and well angulated rear with tail set and carried correctly. Beautiful head and expression with pretty eyes, defined stop, big black nose, square muzzle and strong jaw. Lovely on the move but not quite as impressive as 1 in profile. I called her back to challenge for the rcc and she was very close up.
3RD Maudaxi Joanie Loves Chacha JW (Mr P & Mrs D Reid)
