Scottish Kennel Club All breed Ch Show- Smooth Coat Chihuahua Critique 17 May 2026- Judge Lee Grogan (Grovina)

Thank you to the officers and committee of The Scottish Kennel Club for a return invitation to judge at your well run shows. It is no easy task to run one successful All breed Ch show, let alone two on the same day! It was an honor to be on a panel alongside judges I have admired since I first started showing at 12 years old. The day started off so nicely, with the first class in the ring, then came the fire alarm! Well done to SKC and all exhibitors for a quick and safe evacuation. These unplanned events can’t be helped, but everyone handled it so well, especially the dogs. My super stewards in both rings kept everything running so smoothly, which made my job easier. Thank you to the exhibitors for your fantastic entry! I felt the Males were particularly strong in type and overall soundness. I felt front assembly throughout the classes was not a strong point - I would like to see straighter front legs, tighter elbows, and greater lay-back of shoulder, as some dogs created a picture that looked untidy at times, both standing and when moving. Overall, I was very happy with my winners and final line ups. The open classes were especially a pleasure, with many quality exhibits.

1st - Boetandales Little Devil (Mr D J Langford)

A very typey young dog with many lovely attributes. I loved his headpiece. Beautiful shape to skull. Well set large ears that were used well. Beautiful, large, dark and round eyes giving a saucy expression. Excellent pigmentation. Excellent length of muzzle with defined stop. Nice reach of neck that was well arched. I would have liked more reach in front when moving. Excellent temperament. Overall type secured the class win.

2nd - Yorone Too Cool for School (Mr S J Rooney)

A little more raw at this moment in time compared to 1st, which is perfectly ok for this stage of development. I really like the overall type of this young man. Excellent shape to skull, with beautifully set ears, that are large in size. Large, dark and round eyes. Excellent length to muzzle. A little longer cast in body than 1st. Excellent happy and outgoing temperament.

1st - Copymear Conquistador NAF (Mr S J Rooney)

A very exciting puppy that I feel is at an awkward stage of maturity at this moment, with so much to admire. His head looks like the finished product, and his body is playing catch up. His skull is so well rounded, with obvious and beautiful apple shape. His ears are superbly set, and so very large, he uses them so well at all times. Large, dark and round eyes, with excellent pigmentation helping to produce that saucy expression. Good length to muzzle and nice width to under-jaw. Elegant reach of neck that is nicely arched. His body, although still maturing, has great depth to chest and spring of rib. Excellent bone and substance throughout, although I would not want anymore. A very exciting Puppy. Best Male Puppy & later Best Puppy In Breed.

2nd - Charonchi Sirius Nikitos (Mrs B Sutton)

A very honest dog that scores high for size, shape and outline. Lovely round shape to skull, with good apple dome. Well set ears of excellent large size. Large rounded eyes with excellent pigmentation throughout. Nice length to muzzle, housing spotless teeth. Nicely arched neck. A tad loose in front both standing and on the move, but I am confident this will come with maturity. Spirit level topline with good tail carriage.

1st - Am Ch Knockout Chuck A Duck for Jahneemahs (Imp Usa) (Mrs E Huntley)

A very mature dog who’s shape and aura commands total attention. Masculine headpiece, but in no way coarse. I loved his skull shape. Super ear set complete with large flaring ears. Beautiful, large dark and round eyes. Well defined stop, muzzle of excellent length. Neck of medium length that was nicely arched into nice front. Level topline with good tailset and carriage. Well angulated and muscled rear. He moved with great drive, but I felt his front was affected by the spotting in the ring, he looked like he was trying to dive for the spots on the ground which threw him off a little. Overall a quality dog, I am sure a UK crown awaits.

2nd - Starceylon Nick Rockett (Mr S & Mrs S Rooney & Holland-Smith)

Smaller, finer dog of nice size with much to admire. The most beautiful shape to his skull. Darkest of eyes that are good for size. Medium neck length into good front. I would prefer a higher tailset. Excellent temperament.

1st - Perimeade’s Midnight Dream (Miss G Walton)

What a pocket rocket this handsome dog is! I loved him for shape and size. Small in size, big in personality, and great in body proportion. Gorgeous apple domed skull, with excellent ear set. Large flaring ears that were used well. Excellent round shape to eyes that are large and dark, helping to produce such a saucy and cheeky expression. Nice reach of neck into nicely laid back shoulders. Ok front. Compact body with level topline. Well muscled hindquarters which he uses to power around the ring with great drive and enthusiasm. At times, a little too excited which unsettled him. A very exciting young dog that I am sure will have a most exciting future.

2nd - Pepeetolynn Rich Tea (Mrs L M Jones)

Handsome dog of very nice overall type and excellent small size. Excellent headpiece, super for shape. Darkest of soulful eyes with a hint of fire behind them giving excellent saucy expression. Nice length to muzzle. Good chest, ok in front.

This was a nice class, mixed in type, but many had lots of excellent qualities.

1st - Jahneemahs Looney Tune (Mrs E Huntley)

Impressed greatly for size and shape. A moderate dog with nothing overdone. Lovely type. Beautiful shape to skull. Super ear set complete with large flaring ears. Dark and round eyes. Well defined stop with excellent length and finish to muzzle. Medium length of neck into great front. Excellent depth to chest with well sprung ribs. Well angulated and muscled rear. Another with a bright future.

2nd - Monicachi Money Man at Rozamie (Mr J Magri)

If there was an award for the cheekiest dog of the day, it has to go to this dog! He’s a little fire cracker! Small, dainty and compact. Beautiful round, apple shaped skull with nice earset and good size of ears. Large, dark and round eyes with the sauciest expression. Nice reach of neck, great depth of chest, good front. Level topline with good tail set and carriage. Pushed 1st hard.

This was an exciting class to judge. A great variance of type, but each dog had many qualities to appreciate.

1st - Gibeltarik Parti Kiss (Mr L & Miss L & Mrs J Llamas & Llamas & Requena MBE)

He is a real stallion of a dog. His impressive shape commands total attention. I adored his headpiece. Masculine, without any coarseness. His skull is beautifully round, complete with the most appealing apple dome. Excellent ear set, large in size and used well both standing and on the move. Darkest of eyes, so round in shape and beautifully large in size, giving a saucy expression. Well defined stop with excellent length to muzzle. Excellent dentition with great finish to muzzle. Medium length of neck that was nicely arched. Excellent lay-back of shoulders into a super chest with great depth and an excellent front assembly. I feel his markings can mislead how nicely proportioned he is. On examination he is compact in body, with excellent spring of rib. Level topline with excellent tail set, he carries his sickle tail well both standing and on the move. Well muscled and anglutaed hind quarters that he used to full advantage. Excellent bone and substance overall. He moves around the ring so effortlessly, with sound parallel movement in all directions. At times, he can be his own worst enemy if he becomes bored, but he came alive by the end of the class, and in the challenge he was there to show the other males who’s boss. Once he saw the Female come in to compete against him for BOB, he took it up a whole other gear, holding his proud shape with the most super carriage. By this stage, he did not need his handler, he was perfectly capable of showing himself off to full advantage. Pleased to award him DCC & Best of Breed.

2nd - Ch Arkoschi Don't Stop Me Now JW (Ms L Taylor)

I loved the overall type and size of this small, and compact dog. His skull is textbook, round in shape, with excellent apple dome. I loved his large flaring ears that were well set and used. Large, dark and round eyes complete with great pigmentation produced a very saucy expression. I loved his length of muzzle. Good neck length. Great front with excellent depth to chest. Slightly heavier in bone than 1. Level topline with excellent tail-set and carriage. Nicely angulated, well muscled rear that he uses to full advantage to power around the ring, full of animation. Pushed the winner hard, a very worthy Champion. Reserve DCC.

A very typey dog who was really enjoying his day in the ring. Masculine head with sweet expression. Dark soulful eyes. Well set ears of nice size. Medium reach of neck. Well developed chest, although carrying a tad too much weight. Level topline with great tail set that was well carried on the move and standing. Best Veteran In Breed.

This little girl is such a poppet! She has a lovely shape and is so well balanced for a baby. Excellent head shape, round with apple dome. Beautiful large, dark and round eyes. Well set ears of nice size. Elegant neck, medium in length with nice arch into a great front. Great chest for age. Level topline with great tailset and carriage. I think she is very exciting, I was delighted to award her Reserve BCC & Best Puppy Bitch.

2nd - Tidos Huntrix (Mrs C Fairbairn)

This very typey little lady that caught my eye as she entered the class. Lovely type and screams femininity with her outline and shape. Pretty head with beautiful dark, large, round eyes. Excellent shape to skull. Fantastic ears, large in size and well set. Elegant neck that is well arched into a nice front. Perhaps a shade long in body, but not offensive. A real asset to any kennel. Unfortunately, she was not the happiest today.

1st - Misty Meadow's Jenny Kim Rozamie (imp) (Mr J Magri)

This girl broke my heart! She entered the ring and my eyes locked onto her immediately! She screams femininity and is of the most beautiful type! Her headpiece is glorious! Well rounded in shape with the most beautiful apple dome skull. Gorgeous large, dark and round eyes that are well placed in skull. Defined stop with excellent length and finish to muzzle. She has the sauciest of expressions. Beautiful large ears that are well set in skull. Elegant neck of medium length into great shoulders and front. Nice depth to chest for age and well sprung ribs. She moved well with great reach and drive holding such a lovely shape, then came time for the challenge and she called it a day! My heart absolutely sank as she showed us how unhappy she was. I hope we meet again on a day when she is happier for just a little longer.

2nd - Starceylon Empress by Mandistarz (Miss M Corbett)

I really liked this girl and she put up a good fight to try win the class. Feminine headpiece with excellent shape to skull. Excellent large ears that are nicely placed which she uses well. Darkest of eyes, nice reach of neck. I would like her a tad shorter in body length, but as she is a female, I am forgiving of this. Excellent tail set and carriage. I am sure she will do great things for her owner in and out of the ring.

This female ticks a lot of boxes for me. I loved her for size, shape and overall balance. Nice round shape to skull housing wonderfully large, dark and round eyes. A touch longer in muzzle. Well set, large ears. Medium neck into a good front, with nice depth to chest. Well set and carried tail. Nicely angulated rear.

2nd - Jodeschi Glamour Puss JW (Ms J Ginger)

Litter sister to 1, and so very much to like. Very nice overall type, she is a touch longer all over. Very nice headpiece with gorgeous, large dark and round eyes. Excellent ear set and large ears for size. A slightly longer neck than her sister that is nicely arched. Well angulated rear. Pushed her sister hard for first. Overall, I prefer firsts shape and balance. I have no doubt they will change places during the course of their show career.

1st Ch Diamonchi Miss Beautiful JW (Mrs D Fothergill)

A very aptly named Queen! She is absolutely beautiful indeed. Her headpiece is glorious, and very much the female counterpart in head to my Best Male. Superb apple dome skull, so round in shape. Largest, darkest and roundest of eyes with excellent pigmentation, enhancing her saucy expression. Her neck is of beautiful medium length to complement her size, adding to a nicely balanced outline. She is wonderfully proportioned overall. Great chest with excellent depth. Spirit level topline with excellent tailset. Furry flat tail that is perfectly carried both standing and moving. To be hyper critical, I would add a touch more angulation to her rear, nonetheless, she moved well in all directions, Miss Beautiful indeed! Delighted to award her BCC and Reserve BOB.

2nd - Ch Diamonchi Miss Sparkel JW (Mrs D Fothergill)

Litter sister to first and many of the same comments apply. Excellent overall type. Lovely headpiece of excellent shape. Beautifully large ears, very well set and used. Excellent well arched neck in very nice front. Great depth of chest with perhaps a touch more body and substance than first. Moved very well. I was splitting hairs between Miss Sparkel and Miss Beautiful. Considered and called back in to compete for the Reserve CC, however, she was not as composed in the Challenge as she was in the class and just lost out to the Minor Puppy for the Reserve CC, who was showing like a seasoned Veteran. I am sure her breeder is very proud of these two sisters, and I look forward to seeing what each produce in the future.

1st - Sliverchi Dixie Darling (Miss C Conway)

A very dainty and elegant lady. Small in size, but big in personality. The absolute sweetest of headpieces. Lovely shape to skull. Her eyes are wonderful, quite large in size, so round in shape and very dark in color. Shorter neck, into an OK front. I would prefer a stronger front with greater depth to chest. Level topline with good tailset. She moved well with great attitude. Best Special Beginner.
