German Wirehaired Pointers

As judges every appointment is different, sometimes breeds are lacking the quality throughout, but sometimes you see huge progression in the breed. The latter was one of those appointments, I have not judged the breed for a very long time and the quality I found could push the top drawer dogs I have witnessed in the early 2000’s, which in my opinion was the pinnacle time of this breed. I was absolutely thrilled with all my winners and thank you to the exhibitors for bringing them and taking my decisions with such grace, it is an appointment I won’t forget for a long time.

Puppy dog

1.Vine and Hassell’s Urvum Hero at Beanalrem (IMP ITA)

My notes say ‘wow’, loved this young man, presents such a balanced picture for his age. Beautiful head with an alert, typical expression, clean strong neck into well placed shoulders, straight legs and the most beautiful feet!! He needs to drop into himself and fill but that will come with age, loved his topline and rear quarters, which were presented in rock hard form. For me, where this dog comes into his own is on the move, smooth, ground covering, driving well from his rear with a hint of ‘wire flare’ which I love, handled and presented to perfection, totally at one with his handler, this fella has a bright future, will watch him with interest. Res Best Dog and Best Puppy In Breed.

2. Cuthill’s Caldewriver Kong Quest

This chap really pushed the winner hard, another one presenting a balanced picture, good bone and a thick harsh jacket. Lovely head and expression, correct depth of muzzle, correct length of neck and well placed shoulders. He is sound from every angle, lovely straight legs and tight feet, needs to drop in body and fill, but again that will come with age, correct height to length ratio, good bend of stifle and correct width of thigh, sadly giving his handler a bit of a hard time today which threw his rear movement, which cost him on the day.

Post Graduate Dog

1.Hamilton’s Baco De Los Marvares (IMP ESP)

Just 2 years old so giving away a lot currently, as he should, sporting a thick harsh jacket with a lot of facial furnishings, would prefer more width on his muzzle, but has good depth. Strong clean neck, excellent front proportions, good bone and tight feet, he has good body depth for age, strong topline and correct tailset, his rear was well muscled but I would like more width of thigh to balance him. He was being a little ‘extra’ today and giving his handler a bit of a hard time, but once he clicked in he moved beautifully, considered for Res Best dog.

Open Dog

1.O’Briens SH CH Caldewriver Cold As Ice

This dog for me is everything a wire haired pointer should be, medium sized, balanced and powerful, nothing overdone, thick harsh jacket, rich in colour, making everything there to see and nothing to hide. Lovely head and expression, with furnishings of correct texture, good eye shape and colour with a cheeky glint in his eye. Moderate front construction, nice tight elbows and straight legs, standing on the best of feet. His depth of chest is spot on, ribs well sprung, with the correct tuck up into loin. His rear quarters are strong with the correct bend of stifle, he was presented like a working breed should be, well muscled throughout. This chap won this class with his effortless ground covering movement, driving from his rear owning every single inch of the ring, this boy is hard to ignore, but still has more to come. Best dog and Best of Breed.

2.Turnbull,Turnbull,Turnbull and Keene’s SH CH Glenquin the Colonel at Elagram JW

This young man is still giving a lot away in body which will come in time, presented in thick jacket with a lot of furnishing and decided to show he is all wirehair today, giving his handler a rather hard time and smile whilst he does it. Beautiful head and expression, kind dark eye of good shape, strong neck, correct shoulders, good body depth for age, but his ribs still need to come. Strong topline, good, well muscled rear quarters, which he used well on the move, a little proud of his tail today.

Puppy Bitch

1. Cuthill’s Caldewriver Monkey Bizz

Really liked this young lady, well off for bone, harsh coat and nice deep colour. Correct head proportions, deep muzzle and nice clean neck, shoulders well placed and tight elbows. She is quite deep for her age and a little long in rib, but held her topline well, correct tail set and well muscled, powerful rear quarters which she used well on the move. Best puppy Bitch and Res Best Bitch

Post Graduate Bitch

1.Hogg’s M Frivilje at Cappercleugh ( IMP NOR)

What a professional young lady, she didn't put a foot wrong, pretty head and expression, straight legs and beautiful feet, strong topline, ok depth of chest, correct length of body, tail well set, moderate rear quarters and correct length of hock, covered the ground steadily, moved well on the front, but very close behind today. Best Special Beginners

Open Bitch

1.O’Brien’s Sh Ch Caldewriver Storm ‘N’Teacup for Katillien JW

Another outstanding specimen from this clearly very clever breeder, what a show girl, textbook head and expression, with a cheeky, alert twinkle in her eye, her ears well set and frame her face, neck strong and well set into shoulders. Her legs and straight and well boned standing on tight neat feet, deep chest with well sprung ribs, she's a little long in the loin area, but still holds her topline well, strong rear quarters which she uses well on the move, totally at one with her handler, a joy to watch. Best Bitch

2.Turnbul, Turnbull,Turnbull and Keene Kimmax Two Kan Play Elagram (AI)

Upstanding girl, up to height for me, this girl has particularly lovely eyes, which I am sure she uses to advantage regularly. She's well off for bone, good furnishing on face but I would prefer a better texture, good depth of body, would prefer more width of thigh to finish the picture, moved well.
