Welsh Springer Spaniels

Thank you to the officers and committee of Birmingham National for the opportunity to award CCs and to all the exhibitors for your entries, they were very much appreciated and I greatly enjoyed going over every one of your dogs. 45 years since my first WSS and they remain my favourite breed. Thank you to stewards Gavin and Louise.

Special Beginners Dog - 2

1st Griffiths’ Merchinetes Padrig, 23 months old, lovely rich red and white coat, balanced in head with soft expression, good length of neck and well placed shoulders, good feet, balanced in profile and nicely presented. Well bodied and moved the better of the two. Best Special Beginner .

2nd Chimes Bronnydene Fly Red Kite, a little heavier in head than first but head well balanced. Nice front angulation with good depth of rib, good feet and legs , in good coat but a tad sluggish on the move.

Junior Dog 2

1st Knowles Menstonia Endurance JW, 17 month old boy with super bone and feet, a strong boy with a well balanced head and kind expression, good depth of rib and brisket well angulated front and rear, short loin in good coat and condition, moved steadily.

2nd Bennion’s Menstonia Endless Dreams, litter brother to first and and similar comments apply, masculine balanced head , nicely angulated, steady on the move, in lovely coat and condition just a tad longer in loin than first. 

Post Graduate Dog 3

1st Gaylor and Robertson’s Gilstonia Red Rum for Aprilflash,2 year old very happy out going boy, lots of breed type, good bone and feet, well balanced in head with soft kind expression. Good depth of rib and compact in outline, short loin. In good coat and condition. Moved out well with drive.  

2nd Griffiths Merchinetes Padraig- see 1st in SBBD

A lovely class and some very close decisions 

1st Harrison’s Glenbrows Turn Back Time JW, almost 2 years old, a strong male young dog who commands attention on entering the ring. Masculine in head with dark eye and good chiselling. Stands on super strong bone and well padded feet, long neck leading into well angulated shoulders and upper arm, excellent forechest and depth of rib and brisket. Short coupled, well angulated, well muscled rear, moved out with drive and reach. Beautifully presented rich red and white coat. Pleased to award him the CC and Best of Breed. 

2nd Williams’ Nyliram The Alibi for Trebettyn JW , I judged this boy as a puppy and now at 3 years old he has matured into a lovely boy. Lovely, kind, mischievous expression, good bone, good forechest, well ribbed, balanced front and rear angulation and moved happily with zest, reach and drive around the ring.

A quality class, splitting hairs on the final placements

1st Graham’s Sh Ch Nyliram Telling Tales JW, 2 years old in lovely coat and condition, happy kind expression, super bone and feet , strong neck, good forechest, depth of rib, short loin and well angulated front and rear, Moved well, well muscled 1st and 2nd thigh, beautifully presented, Reserve CC .

2nd Allen’s Sh Ch Eiriandylis By George, pushed the winner all the way. Best of heads with the kindest gentle expression,beautifully presented, rich red and white coat, lovely length of neck and depth of rib, well angulated muscular rear just lost out on forechest and slightly longer loin to first. Moved well with reach and drive at one with his handler.

1st Harrison’s Glenbrows Symphony, just 6 and a half months with everything in the right place. Feminine pretty head, good bone and feet, nice lay of shoulder and upper arm, in good coat and condition, well presented. Best Puppy in Breed

1st Knowles Menstonia Endless Mist JW, 17 months old pretty girl, head well balanced with kind expression, super bone and feet, good forechest and depth of rib, balanced in profile, well muscled rear , maturing well, good colour and presentation, initially paced on the move but once rectified moved out soundly. 

2nd Harrison’s Glenbrows Aurora JW, another quality girl from this kennel, very balanced in profile with super reach of neck and angulation. Well presented. 

Post Graduate Bitch 8

A lovely class of quality girls,

1st Chandler’s Chanangel White Rose JW, 2 year old girl who reminded me so much in profile of the WSS of the mid eighties. Full of breed type, standing on good bone and super feet. Pretty feminine head with lovely dark mischievous eyes, good forechest, spring of rib and short loin, compact and balanced in outline. Long neck leading into correct lay back of shoulder, strong well muscled rear. Beautifully presented and handled. Stood out in class in profile on the move with good reach and drive. Pleased to award her the CC.

2nd Cochrane’s Eiriandylis Confusion, 2 years old with a lovely feminine proportionate head with soft expression, well balanced . Stands on good bone and feet , good forechest and depth of chest and short loin and well angulated rear. Happy girl on the move demonstrating reach and drive.

3rd Gibson’s Ferndel Rosanna at Cadehill.

A class with differing types

1st McIlwaine and Reynold’s Ferndel Rebecca for Benoveor, almost 3 years old , lovely balanced outline in profile with super reach of neck and good front angulation evident. Enough bone, good feet, pretty head with good chiselling. Good depth of rib and well angulated rear, lacking coat today, well presented.  

2nd Short’s Toftwood Jean Genie, 3 year old of nice size, shown in good coat, well bodied with good depth of rib and short loin. Moved well.

3rd Tew’s Pamicks Dream With Me.

1st Graham’s Sh Ch Nyliram Telling Tales JW ShCEx OSW, beautifully balanced 5 year old shown in glorious coat and condition. Pretty well balanced head, well ribbed with good forechest and short loin. Well angulated muscular rear, moved with reach and drive. A pleasure to have the opportunity to judge her, thank you, just pipped at the post for the CC as preferred profile of CC winner, pleased to award her the Reserve CC

2nd Casey’s Tigerrock lit De Roses with Willomeana, 5 years old balanced and compact in outline shown in good coat and condition. Good depth of rib and moved well with reach and drive in profile holding her topline. 

3rd Ward’s Glenbrows Flame for Tantaraviz. 

Veteran Bitch 3

Three lovely veterans

1st Reynolds and McIlwaine’s Benoveor Can’t Buy Me Love, 8 years old with a sweet feminine head , kind eye and expression.. Good depth of rib, well angulated rear. Moved well and steadily in profile for her young handler who showed her girl beautifully and professionally. Best Veteran in Breed 

2nd Short’s Ferndel Fire Gem at Toftwood, 7 and a half year old compact balanced girl, looked a picture in profile with good feet, good depth of rib and return of upper arm Well muscled rear and moved out well. In lovely coat and condition, just preferred head and expression of 1st. 

3rd Gibson’s Dearham Dilys of Cadehill.
