Irish Wolfhounds

Thank you to the Society for the opportunity to judge Irish Wolfhounds today and to my stewards, Sharon and Graham. I was delighted with the quality throughout, and especially my main winners. To say we were on an unforgiving surface, movement was good in general and the top winners were excellent. Temperaments, as expected, were lovely.

DOGS

PD (1,0)

1.Dukesarum August (Sumner)

8 months puppy, well-grown with good length. Nice head and ears, good neck. Well-knuckled feet. Reasonable bend of stifle. Movement slightly loose in front but moved well behind and in profile.

PGD (4,0)

1.Hydebeck Tyme to Love at Graefyn JW (Dawson)

Close decision. Both were well-balanced and had nice length, with good depth, spring and length of ribbing. First won on head, dark eyes, ears held well. Strong neck. Preferred his forelegs and forechest. Good feet. Strong hindquarters, nice bend of stifle. Moved reasonably well.

2. Hydebeck Eternal Love (Connor)

Again nice profile balance with good body. Eye-set and colour not as good as first, but preferred his shoulders, also better coat. Reasonable mover.

3. Glengail Ccillian (Mr A Dunwell)

LD (3,1)

1.Killoughery Mission Two for Inkleyboys JW (Webb & Sheppard)

Attractive typical picture. Preferred his proportions to second, with better length, but would prefer a bit more of him and a stronger topline. Nice head with soft expression. Good and balanced angulation all round with lovely hindquarters, good bend of stifle and low hocks. Feet a bit long. Moved well all round with a relaxed stride.

2. Killoughery Ricochet with Braewisan (Evans)

Bigger dog, strong overall appearance. Nice shape of head but preferred expression of first. Good length of neck, good front and feet, shapely hindquarters with width across thigh and low hocks. Moved reasonably well all round.

OD (4,1)

1.Ch Caredig Mafioso (Tebbutt)

An ideal picture of perfect size, shape and proportions. Masculine but without any trace of coarseness. Ultra-typical without exaggeration. Attractive head and expression, ears well carried, strong neck, excellent front construction and ample forechest, good feet and pasterns, good length with excellent topline and ribcage, good bend of stifle, width across thigh and low hocks. Excellent mover all round keeping his topline. CC & BOB.

2. Killoughery Touchstone (Spry)

Attractive overall picture, of good proportions. Eye could be darker but nice head and expression, good ears, well set. Strong neck. Front angulation and forechest not as good as first but better angulation all round than third. Good length of body, nice topline, strong hindquarters with low hocks. Excellent mover. RCC.

3. Ch Dukesarum Murphy (Sumner)

1. Florence Della Bassa Pavese to Baronglen JW (Imp Ita) (Pask)

Imposing bitch, strong but still feminine, with nice proportions, good length and balanced angulation. Attractive head with dark eyes and good pigmentation. Good front. Ideal length of ribcage to coupling, good topline, strong hindquarters, width across thigh. Playing handler up but couldn’t help looking lovely despite herself. Moved well all round. Very close decision for the ticket but just not quite as together as the Open winner. RCC.

Pretty head. Eye could be darker but good pigmentation. Excellent front and feet, nice proportions, good bend of stifle, low hocks. Moved well all round, much better than the third.
