It was a real honour to judge the Bracco Italiano at the Gundog Society of Wales, and my sincere thanks go to Rich Stafford for the invitation and to the whole team for making me feel so welcome throughout the day. A heartfelt thank you also to every exhibitor who came along to support my first time awarding Challenge Certificates in my beloved breed. I was genuinely delighted with both the quality and quantity of my entry, and in going over the dogs I found some truly lovely surprises that reminded me why this breed holds such a special place in my heart.

The sportsmanship and good natured cheering around the ring were wonderful to hear and added to the enjoyment of the day. Most exhibits were presented in fabulous, well toned condition, a real credit to their owners. Overall, I was absolutely spoilt for choice. Many of these dogs could easily change places on another day, such was the depth of quality, and I had some very difficult decisions to make.

I wish every exhibitor continued success in the future, and thank you all for making this appointment such a memorable and special one for me.

MINOR PUPPY DOG

1ST 31 - Braccorion Feather Plucker with Bearox (Mrs K & Mr M Leonard)

Love him. A super puppy with plenty of breed type and promise. At just six months old he is still raw, but he was clearly enjoying his day and taking everything in with great enthusiasm. He has a pleasing head of excellent proportions, with kind, correctly coloured eyes and a slightly mischievous expression. Slightly arched neck leading into well laid shoulders with a corresponding return of upper arm. Ribs well sprung and carried well back. Excellent rear angles with parallel hocks. He stands on strong oval bone, slight slope to pasterns and the best of feet.On the move he was a bit of a clown for his handler, full of fun and not quite convinced that today was about serious work. Once settled, I saw some very good strides and he carried his tail well. I would very much like to see him again as he matures. I wish him well for the future.

1ST 46 - Quirinale Dell'oltresavio (Miss E & Miss L Towns & Coghlan)

Eight month old. An excellent head, showing the desired workings, and a happy youngster with the most endearing expression. Beautifully shaped eyes of the correct colour and well set ears. Strong neck leading into an excellent lay of shoulder, good depth of chest and neat, tight elbows. He is up to size for his age but well balanced, with plenty of breed type. Ribs well sprung. He has the best of rear angulation, well let down hocks and well arched toes. Coat of excellent chestnut colour and texture, glossy with a metallic sheen. Tail well set and carried correctly on the move. His movement was erratic at times, full of youthful enthusiasm, but when he settled for the challenge he demonstrated a good length of stride and covered the ground well. More together on the move than the minor puppy. I wish him continued success for the future BPIB.

1ST 45 - Callaiscroft Rodeo Star (Miss C Szulzycka)

Striking male who immediately commands attention. He has the most delightful expression — kind and full of fun. Beautiful eyes in harmony with his coat, and a head showing the desired diverging planes with slight chiselling under the eyes. Ears well set. Head of good proportions with a deep muzzle. He is up to size, however he is well balanced and well constructed throughout. Excellent lay of shoulder with a corresponding return of upper arm. He stands on excellent oval bone, slight slope to pasterns and neat, well arched toes. Plenty of heart room, deep in brisket and ribs carried well back. Strong over the loin. I would prefer a little more bend of stifle. Well let down hocks. Shown in superb condition - well muscled, and his chestnut coat gleamed. Handled sympathetically and to advantage. On the move he was foot perfect: true fore and aft, and in profile he displayed the desired breed specific trait as he swallowed up the ring with sound, effortless movement. He showed a clear bond with his handler, which was wonderful to see

2ND 30 - Bracchini Burst Your Bubble (Mrs K & Mr M Leonard)

Another pleasing male, slightly finer in frame than the winner. Beautiful head of excellent proportions, with the kindest of eyes and an almost cheeky expression. Good ear set and length. Well balanced throughout. Ribs well sprung and carried well back, with a slight tuck up. Moved well once settled — true fore and aft, carrying his well set tail correctly. Preferred the substance of one.

1ST 24 - Piccorino Portatore D’amore (Mrs K Hutton)

Three years old. What a lovely dog to go over - gentle, well mannered and a credit to his owner. Pleasing head with the correct diverging planes, tight eyes of the correct colour and shape. Excellent front angulation and well muscled over the shoulders. Deep in brisket with ribs carried well back. Strong over the loin and an excellent tailset. I would prefer a little more bend of stifle. He moved as one with his handler, holding his topline on the move. Perfect footfall coming towards me, and in profile he looked beautiful, covering the ground with ease and showing a breed typical trot. Shown in super hard condition, his coat was shiny and of correct texture. I understand this was the handler’s second championship show, and she was absolutely delighted to win BSBIB. My pleasure — well done. Wish them both every success for the future

2ND 19 - Bracciano Never Too Late (Mr T & Mrs F Doyle)

I really like this boy — nothing overdone. He has the most beautiful head, with correct diverging planes, pleasing chiselling under the eyes, excellent proportions and good depth to his muzzle. Stands square and presents a lovely profile. Slightly finer in frame than the winner, but strong all through with good depth of chest and ribs carried well back. Excellent coat colour with desired metallic sheen. Today he carried his tail a little proudly. His movement was sound and true, and he worked well with his handler, showing a nice partnership. Shown in great condition - a real credit to his handler.

1ST 13 - Gunsyn Superstitious (Mrs L Bowley)

WOW — where did this beautiful boy come from. From the moment he walked into the ring I felt he was going to be something special, and he did not disappoint. I couldn’t fault him. Such a gentle, sweet boy with the most beautiful expression. Head of excellent proportions, correct diverging planes, slight occiput, excellent ear set and length. Slightly arched, strong neck leading into well laid shoulders with a corresponding return of upper arm. He stands on strong oval bone, the straightest of fronts, neat close fitting elbows, slight slope to pasterns and well arched toes. Nothing overdone about him — he is beautifully balanced. Stood square, ribs well sprung and carried well back. Well muscled loin and an excellent tailset. His rear is superb, with excellent bend of stifle, parallel hocks and strong, well toned condition. On the move he looked a picture. He moved at a suitable speed for the ring size, his footfall was perfect — so very true going away and coming towards me. His side profile movement was effortless yet demonstrated strong driving action with excellent reach, and his head and tail carriage were perfect. My star of the day. I was delighted to award him the DCC and ultimately BOB. Well deserved — I am sure he will go on to take his title. Good luck for the future.

2ND 34 - Callaiscroft Je Ne Sais Quoi (Miss E J Longman)

Beautiful two year old chestnut male of excellent proportions. He has a beautifully balanced head with the desired diverging planes, pleasing chiselling under the eyes, and a deep muzzle that is not overdone. He owns the most endearing expression, with correctly coloured eyes and well set ears. No excess dewlap. Strong all through. Excellent straight front, and he stands true behind with parallel hocks. Ribs well sprung and carried well back, his loin is solid, and he holds his topline perfectly on the move. And this boy can move. Quite the showman. Presented in beautiful coat and condition, his coat is the desirable chestnut colour with metallic sheen, and he clearly is suitably exercised because his muscle tone is evident all through. Handled to perfection — a real credit to his handler. I brought him back in for the challenge and he did not disappoint. Straight and true, accurate movement going away and coming towards me, with ground covering, typical Bracco action. I could not deny him the RDCC. Well done.

1ST 11 - Teverlarni Stick to Ya Guns TAF (Miss S & Ms L & Miss G Smith & Smith & Brown)

Another lovely boy to go over, and handled to perfection. Orange roan. All male — an upstanding dog who really owns the ring. He has a beautiful profile, stands firm and square with a good topline. In side profile his head is typical, showing the desired diverging planes. Strong all through and standing on strong oval bone. Good shoulder placement with a corresponding return of upper arm. Chest deep, reaching the elbows. Ribs well sprung, great strength over the loin. His rear angulation is excellent, with good width of first and second thigh and evident muscle tone. Moved beautifully, completely at one with his handler.

2ND 43 - Teverlarni Keep The Faith (Mrs C Bond)

A boy I have done well in the past, and he has matured well. Today he was giving his handler a hard time, but there is still plenty to admire about him. Pleasing head of good proportions, with a strong, slightly arched neck. Excellent front and rear angulation, and he stood square. Ribs well developed and a strong loin. Well-muscled all through. He moved effortlessly with his handler, holding his topline and showing excellent footfall with good driving action.

1ST 40 - Sh Ch Piccorino Pheasant Plucker (Mrs J & Mr J Rose & Beard)

Absolutely beautiful dog — the perfect showman. Pleasing head with the desired workings, correct eye colour and a beautiful expression. His head is balanced and not overdone in any way, with no excess dewlap. Neck strong and slightly arched. Well defined withers. Shoulders very well muscled and well laid back; front strong and straight, with good oval bone and the best of feet. Chest strong and deep, reaching elbow, well sprung ribs carried well back to the strongest of loins. Stands square. An honest, solid dog shown in prime condition. He is clearly well exercised and looks as though he could work all day. Shown in tip top condition — a credit to his owners. In side profile his movement is just beautiful — the sort that makes your hairs stand up. You cannot help but smile watching him cover the ring so proudly with the desired Bracco action. He was considered in the challenge; today I preferred the rear movement of the limit winner. He is super boy and I wish him lots of continued success for the future.

2ND 12 - Sh Ch Gunsyn Ginspiration (Mrs L Bowley)

Another lovely boy with lots to admire. Head of good proportions, clean tight eyes and a visible median line through the mid skull. Powerful neck with no excess dewlap. Straight, strong oval bone with a slight slope to the pasterns. Slightly longer in cast than height at the withers. Strong all through — chest deep, elbows neat and closely fitted. Excellent rear angulation, and another shown in superb condition. Muscle tone clearly evident, enabling him to power around the ring with both strength and style.

1ST 33 - Braccorion Quick Look of Callaiscroft (Miss E J Longman)

A dog I have awarded well in the past, and he is still very much the beautiful dog he was then. No doubt he is all male. His head is balanced, showing the desired diverging planes. Neck powerful. Shoulders well muscled and well laid back, with a corresponding return of upper arm. Deep, broad chest reaching to the elbows. Ribs well sprung and carried well back, solid over the loin. Stands square and owns the most beautiful profile. Super strong all through, and another shown in fabulous condition. In side profile his movement was beautiful — untiring and powerful. Handled beautifully. BVD.

2ND 6 - Tolriver Enzo at Owlspoint (Miss A Bell)

Lots to like about this boy, and you wouldn’t believe he was a veteran. Such a pleasant dog to go over, and clearly happy — always lovely to see. Pleasing, well balanced head. Well balanced all through. Finer in frame than winner. Excellent coat colour and condition. Strong and well muscled, shown in fabulous condition. Excellent feet. Moved true fore and aft, demonstrating perfect footfall.

2ND 44 - Braccorion’s All or Nothing (Miss C Szulzycka)

Love the profile of this boy, one of the best. Noble appearance and all male. Beautiful head of excellent proportions. He owns a breed typical outline that is very pleasing on the stack; there is no mistaking he is all Bracco, and he really does stand out. Excellent front and rear angulation, with a good tailset. Today he moved a little wide in front and a little wide behind going away, but his side profile movement was fabulous, and he carried his tail correctly.

12. Bracco Italiano - Minor Puppy Bitch

Two babies that could change places on another day

1ST 15 - Bracchini's Cherry Bomb (Miss L J Coghlan)

Eight months. A pleasing young girl with excellent balance for her age. I love her head shape — long, angular and narrow, with a roman nose and chiselling under the eyes. Her eyes are a little light at this stage, which slightly affects the softness of her expression. Finer in frame than second place. Her front is straight, and her pasterns have a slight slope leading to neat, tight, well arched toes of good shape. Ribs carried well back, and her loin is short and strong for her age. Parallel hocks. On the move she likes to show herself off and enjoy herself, as puppies do. Her movement was true fore and aft; in side profile she looked a little choppy, trying very hard to keep her feet on the ground. When settled, I saw some lovely strides. BPB. I wish her well for the future.

2ND 32 - Pedipix Danza Di Vita with Bearox (Mrs K & Mr M Leonard)

Another pleasing baby with many positive attributes. Excellent head and eye, with good ear set and length. She has great substance — I preferred her substance to the winner. She is well balanced for one so young. Good spring of ribs with a pleasing bend of stifle. On the move she gave her handler a hard time, but when settled she showed some lovely strides. The winner was a little more together on the move today. I wish her and her handle success in the future

1ST 35 - Fikret’s Keep The Beat at Callaiscroft (Imp Fin) (Miss E J Longman)

A happy girl, clearly enjoying her day out. Pleasing head with balanced proportions and the kindest of eyes. Lots to like about her — she is well balanced with good angles, strong oval bone, a slight slope to the pasterns and neat, well arched toes. She just needs a little time to mature and fill her frame. Parallel hocks. She is lively on the move, being a typical puppy, and when settled she demonstrates some good strides. Shown in pristine condition. Wishing her well for the future.

2ND 1 - Kellitcreed's Diamond of The Season (Mr J Beard)

Another lively character enjoying her day out. Pretty girl with a beautiful expression and kind eyes of correct colour. Pleasing head with balanced proportions. Good substance and strong oval bone. Excellent spring of rib and pleasing rear angulation. Lots to like about her. She was a little out of condition today. Her movement was very playful, but when settled she showed breed typical strides. Wish her lots of success for the future.

1ST 48 - Callaiscroft Aurora Star at Hopewood (Mrs L Westwood)

And what a little star she is. A super girl with excellent breed type. Her head is feminine and balanced, with tight eyes of correct colour and the most endearing, beautiful expression — gentle and kind, yet with a touch of mischief. Neck powerful and free from excess dewlap. Strong, well muscled shoulders, well laid back with a corresponding return of upper arm. She stands on excellent oval bone with great feet. Stands square, ribs well sprung and carried well back, strong over a short loin. Excellent topline, held perfectly on the move. Her movement is accurate and true with perfect footfall. In side profile she demonstrates great driving action, and she carries her well set tail correctly. She really pushed hard for the CC — her time will come. I am confident she has a very bright future ahead. Delighted to award her the RBCC — well deserved.

2ND 4 - Rydonmist Twistin My Melons (Miss D Beecham)

Loved this girl — she really appealed to me. She has the best of heads, long, angular and narrow at the zygomatic arches, with excellent eye shape and colour. She stands almost square. Strong neck and the best of fronts. Well angulated both front and rear. Her ribs are well sprung and carried well back. Her movement was breed typical — effortless with powerful driving action. When she gains her confidence, I believe she will trouble the best. Shown in excellent condition, a credit to her handler.

Pleasing feminine head of good proportions, with a powerful neck and an unexaggerated dewlap. Her front is straight, standing on strong oval bone with well defined tendons, strong pasterns and well arched toes. Slightly finer in frame than one. Excellent topline, carried well on the move. I really liked this girl. Beautiful head with a gentle expression. I admired her overall balance and her excellent front and rear angulation. Nothing coarse about her. Her front is straight with good bone, withers well defined and ribs carried well back. Well set tail. Unfortunately she was a little reluctant to move today and lacked enthusiasm; however, once she got going she showed beautiful movement with good reach and drive.

Appealing head with correct diverging head planes, desirable workings in cheeks, slight roman nose giving a noble and intelligent expression. Kind eyes of correct colour, with good ear set and length. Slightly converging muzzle. Excellent lay of shoulder, and she excels in rear angulation. Strong oval bone. Deep in brisket, with ribs carried well back to a short, strong loin. She moved with precision — accurate coming towards me and true going away. She was a little nervous as some dogs were barking loudly nearby, but she still showed herself well, demonstrating breed typical movement and carrying her head and tail correctly.

2ND 49 - Elfrindew Bye Baby Buntin at Vixenmoor (Mrs R & Mr S Woodhouse)

A pocket rocket with great ring presence. I admired her overall shape, substance and showmanship. Her head is in equal proportions from stop to occiput and from nose to stop, with a gentle yet mischievous expression. I would prefer to see a little more femininity in her head. Slight arch to a powerful neck. Excellent lay of shoulder with a corresponding return of upper arm. Moderate rear angulation.

On the move she comes alive. She is a fabulous mover — the bond with her handler is evident, and she really did show herself to advantage.

Entries: 2 Absentees: 0

1ST 18 - Sh Ch Braccorions Never Say Never JW (Mrs M Critchley)

A delightful girl I have judged before as a puppy at her first ever show — I knew then she would be special. A couple of years later, at a championship show without tickets, I awarded her BOB. Today she returns as a veteran of eight years old, and she still has her beauty. I really love this girl for her breed type. Her head remains beautiful, even as she shows a little age with a few grey hairs. Well balanced all through, with an excellent spring of rib and short coupling. She is still in great condition with good muscle tone. Her movement is free, true and effortless; she drives around the ring with power and style. I think she will always be one of my favourites. The Veteran male was a quality boy to challenge her, but I could not deny her BVIB.

2ND 8 - Sh Ch Fancyguns Dancing Queen (Miss S & Ms L Smith)

Smart, well balanced girl with great substance. Pleasing, balanced head with a good ear set, and she owns the most beautiful expression. Good lay of shoulder with a corresponding return of upper arm. She stands square and is strong all through. She seemed a little nervous today, but her movement was foot perfect. She moved around the ring with ease, showing herself off to advantage. You wouldn’t believe she was a veteran, shown in excellent condition and handled beautifully.
