 Cocker Spaniel

DCC 1046 - Sh Ch Wilmerella Highlander JW (Mr R & Mrs S L Williams)

RDCC 982 - Plaiglen Mojito (Ms F Glendinning)

BCC 1043 - Sh Ch Glantraeth Ovation to Oktumi (Mr M K Wildman)

RBCC 1002 - Manchela Soul Sister JW (Mr M J & Mr M F Masters & Dott)

BOB 1043 - Sh Ch Glantraeth Ovation to Oktumi (Mr M K Wildman)

BP 1001 - Manchela Ring of Fire (Mr M J & Mr M F Masters & Dott)

BV 967 - Annilann Miss Magicstar at Beckaby (Mrs D L & Mr G P Driver)

BSB 989 - Babtonkelpie Cop The Lot (Messrs J & D Hutton-Baber)

My thanks to Mark and Joyce Collins who make the most excellent pair of stewards and kept things running like absolute clockwork, allowing us to finish in good time. I admired the relationship they had with the cocker community. It was my first time awarding challenging certificates in the breed and an appointment which was much awaited and anticipated and I thoroughly enjoyed my day.

Conditions were near perfect, temperature wise, regrettably the day was very windy, but the spaniels were totally unphased and not one so much as flinched at the strange noises some from the marque.

I was thrilled with my entry numerically and most pleased with the quality. My principal winners were similar in type and united in depth of quality. There were some elements of the breed that I was surprised with, but there were no major themes - there was just more variation that I had anticipated. Some tail sets and carriages were too high, there were some rear quarters with almost excessive angulation, size and substance varied considerably.

My thanks to exhibitors for accepting my decisions in a sporting manner. I do hope that after the disappointed of Windsor you enjoyed your day.

Spaniel (Cocker) - Minor Puppy Dog

Entries: 7 Absentees: 1

1ST 970 - Frieljoanipa Dream Rider (Miss Fd Drottsgaard)

My notes read ‘smart, balanced and square’ with a lively presence, strong topline, topped the class with a kind but masculine head and expression, moved soundly and at one with his handler.

2ND 1009 - Pearkim Phlicker (Mrs G E Pearce-Gudger)

Less mature than 1 pleasing head and expression with correct stop, school well domed, good size and scores in rib. A good placing in a good class, there is more to come here, I am sure.

 Spaniel (Cocker) - Puppy Dog

Entries: 5 Absentees: 2

1ST 1001 - Manchela Ring of Fire (Mr M J & Mr M F Masters & Dott)

I assessed this puppy and thought if I don’t find anything else today, I should be pleased to award this youngster high honours. I later stumbled across more mature exhibits, but he pushed all the way in the line up and I expect that an exciting and competitive career awaits. Appreciated his shape, outline and size, moved with the correct merriment and bustle one expects and is already well off for body despite being so young. BP. Later awarded PG1 under a spaniel specialist – congratulations.

2ND 970 - Frieljoanipa Dream Rider (Miss Fd Drottsgaard)

Appreciated the tail set and carriage on this one, moved very well, would prefer a little more stop to his head, which may come in time, shown in super condition and well presented. Showed with an attitude beyond his years.

Spaniel (Cocker) - Junior Dog

Entries: 4 Absentees: 0

1ST 997 - Penmartan First Edition (Mrs T A Lewis)

Full of type, good size, square throughout, correct stop, good definition, kind eye and expression a lovely size and outline which he maintained most well on the move. On the move he was free and easy and made good use of the big ring

2ND 1030 - Chezzas Personalized Blend (Mrs C Stokes-Harrell)

Longer in muzzle than 1 but otherwise much to like, well off for body and a level of maturity that has synergy with this age. Showed very and moved soundly but could settle a little more.

 Spaniel (Cocker) - Yearling Dog

Entries: 3 Absentees: 0

1ST 1039 - Edasiy Dream Upon A Star by Sheigra (Imp Can) (Mrs C A West)

A true merry cocker, scores in a moderate length of neck which follows into sloping and fine shoulders, balanced with a good return of upper arm, if anything I would perhaps prefer a touch less length of body to create that true compactness that we look for.

2ND 1018 - Merrysoul Everybody’s Talking at Bocablue (Miss J K Pop)

An upstanding gent, slightly overdone for my liking, with his stifles being a touch overmodulated, but he was immaculately presented and handled, in superb condition, a really strong level topline which sloped gently downwards.

Spaniel (Cocker) - Novice Dog

Entries: 4 Absentees: 0

1ST 1014 - Meggiemac Regal Splendour (Miss R Pocock)

A spaniel of good outline with the compactness we seek and correct height to length proportions, not the most settled of toplines which relaxed a little on the move, excellent coat of correct texture being flat and silky, covered the ground well and with determination.

2ND 964 - Camestone Jazzy Jeans (Miss D L Creaney)

Square muzzled exhibit with a clear stop and good correct level ear set, at times has a tendency to look a little longer in body, but this is perhaps a touch deceiving, moved soundly but not with the reach and drive of 1.

Spaniel (Cocker) - Graduate Dog

Entries: 2 Absentees: 2

Spaniel (Cocker) - Post Graduate Dog

Entries: 7 Absentees: 2

1ST 983 - Purdyspride Rave On JW (Mrs E & Mr M Gray)

Headed the class on the bustling yet productive movement, which he demonstrated well in the large ring, level topline which downwards, my notes state at the start of ‘lovely type’, and good size and has a classic not over done masculinity.

2ND 1021 - Annilann Mister Ploppins JW (Miss J, Mrs L & Mr M Ray & Challands)

My winner at the outset, but not really moving the merriment of the winner, sadly as there is much to like, head appealed greatly, nice size and substance and held the shape on the move, it just wasn’t his day to day.

Spaniel (Cocker) - Limit Dog

Entries: 6 Absentees: 1 This proved to be a challenging class to judge.

1ST 1037 - Quettadene Stars Aligned over Bordacity JW (Ms S Watson)

Balanced with a type that appealed, unmistakably spaniel, showed in excellent condition with a flat silky coat put out in the best of presentation, moved very well and cleaning coming and going, just needs a little more finish to challenge the very best.

2ND 1034 - Shaggylands Midnight Train JW (Mrs S J Terry)

A touch to heavy in head for my preference but appreciated his neck into shoulders and well sprung ribs and body, tight feet and an excellent coat, was not helping his handler today, giving a good demonstration of the ‘full of like’ comment in the standard.

Spaniel (Cocker) - Open Dog

Entries: 8 Absentees: 3

1ST 1046 - Sh Ch Wilmerella Highlander JW (Mr R & Mrs S L Williams)

Took my eye at first glance and he didn’t disappoint to handle, his all male yet with a gentle and affection streak that made him quite charming, of good size, the compactness we seek with good length of leg to height ratio and a sound bustling movement, he is in his prime and it was a pleasure to assess him and award him a challenge certificate to compliment his existing title.

2ND 982 - Plaiglen Mojito (Ms F Glendinning)

This chap is a little heavy in head perhaps, and very unassuming but oh so honest and full of type, super outline, in excellent coat, with a nick next, tight feet and right amount of bone, excellent ribs, with a forechest many would envy and very sound and on the move with the every wagging tail. He returned to the line up to be awarded the RDCC.

 Spaniel (Cocker) - Veteran Dog

Entries: 4 Absentees: 1

1ST 968 - Annilann Mister Spangles at Beckaby JW (Mrs D L & Mr G P Driver)

A male of good size and shape, in excellent coat and condition given his age, square muzzle complimented by the right amount of stop, kind dark eye neck leads to sloping shoulders, moved most soundly and a pleasure to judge. Gave way in the challenge to the bitch who appeared a little fresher.

2ND 1008 - Sh Ch Cachel Prince Charming of Pearkim JW (Mrs G E Pearce-Gudger)

At 11 years young, the exhibit and the owner are to be congratulated on the condition and this chap, he made me smile, he is so clean coming and going and so active going award, there was lots to like but personally I would prefer a little more compactness.

Spaniel (Cocker) - Special Beginners Dog

Entries: 4 Absentees: 0

1ST 957 - Annilann Da Business at Wissant JW (Miss M & Miss M Brothwell)

Lovely balanced exhibit would prefer just a smidgen more height to his leg to complete the proportions we seek, his coat could be marginally less profuse, but otherwise he is a most competitive young spaniel who moved very well and was a pleasure to handle.

2ND 946 - Kalispells Kings Secret for Brabazonia (Imp Prt) (Mrs C Barber-Ball)

More upstanding than 1 but a touch to heavy in head for my preference, well off for balance and compactness and good in body, he was well presented and handled to the very best of advantage.

Spaniel (Cocker) - Good Citizen Dog Scheme Dog

Entries: 4 Absentees: 0

1ST 968 - Annilann Mister Spangles at Beckaby JW (Mrs D L & Mr G P Driver)

A younger chap who is maturing well, I am sure that there is more to come here, I would be a touch more height but otherwise he is a sound honest spaniel who shows well, perhaps most at ease on the move where his is sound and clean.

2ND 1014 - Meggiemac Regal Splendour (Miss R Pocock)

More upstanding chap, a little heavy in head for my preference, but very well presented with his silky and flat coat a delight to handle, presented in super condition, really demonstrating the full of life and yet affectionate and gentle part of the standard.

Spaniel (Cocker) - Minor Puppy Bitch

Entries: 8 Absentees: 0

1ST 1045 - Wilmerella Celtic Thistle (Mr R & Mrs S L Williams)

Headed a super class full of early promise, caught my eye straight away and was determined not to be beaten, clearly less mature giving away quite a lot of age, but she was where she should be. Super quality type and bustled and bounced around the move, great proportions, super condition and well sprung ribs emerging. I shall watch her with interest.

2ND 1031 - Frieljoanipa Enya Dreams (Mrs P Taylor-Kistner)

More upstanding and mature than 1 but a touch heavier in head at the current time, moved cleanly and with ease around the large ring, balanced to the fore and rear and put on a good show for one so young.

 Spaniel (Cocker) - Puppy Bitch

Entries: 6 Absentees: 2

1ST 986 - Holchancer Magic Hat (Mr S A Holland)

Feminine bitch, appreciated her compactness for one so young, full of type that I liked and has a wisdom beyond her years, would prefer a touch more angulation to the fore to complete an otherwise picture of promise. BPB over the much younger MPB.

2ND 973 - Eastdray Everlasting Star (Miss J Dutchak)

Appealing and eye-catching exhibit a little exaggerated in the rear quarters at the current time, but has a type and showmanship that many would very feminine throughout and moved very well.

Spaniel (Cocker) - Junior Bitch

Entries: 4 Absentees: 1

1ST 954 - Lynwater Galinda at Lararth (Mr D C & Mrs S L Bowen)

Lovely type and shape and just right for age, super in body and rib and a good width of thigh, lovely flat silky coat well presented and not remotely overdone. Will be one to watch as she matures and progresses up through the classes.

2ND 955 - Ryallcourt Hattie Tude (Mrs L & Mr F Bradfield)

Less rib and body than 1, good topline which she maintained on the move, correct ear lovely lobular ears, eyes full but not overdone, skull and head developing well.

Spaniel (Cocker) - Yearling Bitch

Entries: 4 Absentees: 1

1ST 1002 - Manchela Soul Sister JW (Mr M J & Mr M F Masters & Dott)

Her age does not define her, I adore her head and expression at first glance, square in muzzle, cleanly chiselled, nose wide, moderate in neck into shopping shoulders, in body she is mature with well sprung ribs and she really sung to me on the move, where she used every inch of her type and compactness to move around the ring. RBCC and pushed hard for the CC.

2ND 1003 - Glowhill Candy Corn (Mrs J E Mitchell)

Not quite the condition and maturity of one, but much to like was clean coming and going, muzzle a little tapered for my preference but otherwise her head appealed. Short neck and correct bone and nice tight feet.

Spaniel (Cocker) - Novice Bitch

Entries: 3 Absentees: 1

1ST 1016 - Manaca’s Had You at Hello for Bocablue (Miss J K Pop)

Just the type I had been looking for, head appealed in all respects, moved well but not quite the reach and drive of 1, well off for a rib and body and very well presented just a little more pose required, but there is time.

2ND 999 - Sandlauga Bailey’s On Ice (Miss J Mason)

This merry youngster stands a little high on leg for me but is very pretty with a cheeky attitude that appealed. Moved with real gusto and enthusiasm, good topline, which was held on the move, moved soundly.

Spaniel (Cocker) - Graduate Bitch

Entries: 4 Absentees: 2

1ST 1042 - Annilann Miss Woopsi Poopsi JW (Miss S J Whiting)

Unassuming bitch, who doesn’t always show herself off to best advantage, scores in head with a correct eye, earset and lobular ear, in body for me she is a just a touch long, but is balanced and of good size, moved freely and easy with a good bustle.

2ND 947 - Griffial Wake Up Alone among Annbecks (Miss A Barnett)

An eye-catching exhibit head was a touch heavy for my preference, but it is feminine and kind and full of expression, she is nonetheless balanced and proportionate and good to handle, not overdone, she is in good condition and showed very well.

Spaniel (Cocker) - Post Graduate Bitch

Entries: 7 Absentees: 3

1ST 945 - Timbric Doris Day JW (Mrs K J Bacon)

A bitch of correct size and lovely bone, hocks low to the ground, level topline that slopes gently away giving a strong but typical silhouette, on the move she held herself well and gave a good account, had a kind appealing eye.

2ND 1040 - Jamesfield Just A Star at Sheigra (Mrs C A West)

A quality exhibit pushed 1 but just preferred the eye shape and set of 1, not in the best of coats today, which cost her, moved well and freely coping well with the large ring.

 Spaniel (Cocker) - Limit Bitch

Entries: 12 Absentees: 4

1ST 1051 - Plaiglen Biker Babe to Helenwood JW (Mr N Woods)

Not in the best of coats today, but classy through and through, of lovely type and size and so good to handle with sloping shoulders, balanced rear and low hocks, it was a very strong class and it was a pleasure to award it to her, I am sure that higher honours are not far away and when her coat comes good, she be quite something.

2ND 977 - Misperros Incandescent at Carmelfair JW (Mrs J & Mrs M Fairbairn & Madigan)

A feminine bitch clean coming and going, can look a little low on leg, but not so much as to ruin her outline, she is typical and honest, good to handle and holds herself well going around, she is all the better for getting your hands on a assessing her close up,

 Spaniel (Cocker) - Open Bitch

Entries: 10 Absentees: 1

1ST 1043 - Sh Ch Glantraeth Ovation to Oktumi (Mr M K Wildman)

A standout bitch in this class, the presentation was nothing short of immaculate, encompasses ‘compact’ has a length of leg some lacked, correct bone, lovely kind head and expression, just enough stop, a squareness to her muzzle, short neck into well-made shoulders, well spring ribs a good depth of chest. On the move she had class and an elegance. BCC, BOB and later Group 3 under a breed specialist.

2ND 978 - Heluin Blue Jay (Imp Rus) (Mrs J & Mrs K & Mrs M Fairbairn & Nuttall & Madigan)

A quality bitch, with much to like, was closest up to 1, unassuming but honest, could be a little more of her all over, but she was merry, typey with a lovely head and moved very soundly, she ate up the larger ring and was clean coming and going. Was recalled for the RCC but gave way to the younger bitch from yearly today. I will watch her with interest.

Spaniel (Cocker) - Veteran Bitch

Entries: 2 Absentees: 0

1ST 967 - Annilann Miss Magicstar at Beckaby (Mrs D L & Mr G P Driver)

A typical bitch of good size and substance, lovely silky coat, well off for rib kind melting expression, moved most soundly and freely for one so young, totally at one with her handler. She upped her game was later rewarded with BV.

2ND 1041 - Sheigra Simply A Star JW ShCEx OSW VW (Mrs C A West)

A little longer in body that 1 which cost her today, quality thought, immaculately presented, had held her colour well for one of older years, coat of correct texture, nothing overdone in any respect, very much enjoying her day, couldn’t help but make you smile.

Spaniel (Cocker) - Special Beginners Bitch

Entries: 8 Absentees: 4

1ST 989 - Babtonkelpie Cop The Lot (Messrs J & D Hutton-Baber)

A stronger bitch than some, but I liked her outline and type, she was presently very well, with a straight silky coat that was correct to the touch, moved easily and with an eagerness, the more she showed the better she settled and she came together, she was justly rewarded with BSB.

2ND 958 - Wilanorah Sat'day Nite Diva at Wissant (Mrs D Brothwell)

A very different bitch to 1, smaller all through, but balanced and typy, shorter striding but proportionate for the size. Well off for rib and depth, could use a little more forechest. I am sure that she could change places with 1 but today she wasn’t her day.

3RD 992 - Laurellakes Mon Amour at Merryvista (Mrs G Kent)

Spaniel (Cocker) - Good Citizen Dog Scheme Bitch

Entries: 6 Absentees: 2

1ST 990 - Babtonkelpie Galley Queen JW (Messrs J & D Hutton-Baber)

Fulsome bitch of lovely outline and shape, super hard condition, at full maturity and moved well going around and coming and going, headed the class with some ease, would just prefer a little less of her.

2ND 998 - Leechbaby Hot Shoe Shuffle to Sandlauga (Miss J Mason)

A pettie feminine exhibit, oh so pretty and appealing, classic in outline, would prefer tighter feet and lower hocks but other an honest bitch who a happy easy affectionate disposition.

2ND 732 - Auristela Lady Luck at Lamhryn (Mrs M & Miss E L Williams)

An older golden, lovely size and shape and moved very well, coat showing the signs of aging and whilst very well presented had to give way to the younger exhibit today. A pleasure to judge and unlucky to meet 1.

2ND 904 - Tiamaria Juniper Berry (Mrs N S Rice)

A quite calm handler, who just needs a touch more confidence and determination to really shine, absolutely foot perfect and did all I asked, presented her dog very well and another that understood the breed, her day will come undoubtedly.
