Crufts. Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen

A most enjoyable morning judging this wonderful breed. Being Crufts there was a high entry and some really lovely Petits on show – well done and thankyou. I was a little surprised at the variation in type, many were much too long and more the proportions of a ‘hairy basset’ rather than those of a Petit. Presentation was acceptable generally but quite a few soft coats. How exciting to see the BOB winner represent the breed so well going all the way to RBIS. Not only is she well made and a super mover she has the most wonderful petit temperament, everything for her is fun.

1ST 6760 - Afterglow Curtain Call avec Roxastan (Mrs R Townsend)

Free moving d. Liked his head proportions. Well set ears with good eye and expression. Moderate neck. Shoulder well laid. Upper arm a little short and elbow could be tighter. Well sprung ribs. Firm topline. Correct tail. Rather long in body. Super muscle to rear.

1ST 6730 - Jour Après Jour Confetti Ribbons (Mrs A N Huikeshoven)

 Super proportions, although he is tall enough. Lovely head proportions. Well set ears, dark eyes. Lengthy neck with well laid shoulder. Could have a little more width on front. Straight legs. Well ribbed. Strong loin. Level topline. Moderate rear. Accurate mover with a well balanced stride.

2ND 6726 - Soletrader Basil Fawlty (Ms L & Mr P Guernari & Dane)

He is slightly longer and not in as good coat today as 1. Liked his head, correct length ears. Lengthy neck. His angulations are v well balanved. Level topline. Correct tail length. Balanced and easy profile action.

 2ND 6727 - Cynetkoy River Pheonix (Mrs Kim Holt)

 Very sound d with a happy temperament. Liked his masc head, correct ears. Lengthy neck. Quite a good front. Straight legs. Level topline. He is just a bit long in back. Enough hind angulation to match front and a balanced mover.

3RD 6704 - Ballencrieff Berneray (Mrs C & Mrs S Gilluley & Allen)

 Stood away in this class for type and proportions. He is just 12 mths and needs to muscle up more. V good head, ears could be slightly shorter. Lengthy neck into a well laid shoulder. Straight front. Well ribbed back. Level topline. Low hocks . Correct tail. V easy mover.

Longer type of.d, liked his temperament and presentation. Masc head of good proportions. Medium neck. Moderate in angulation. Accurate on the move.

 Super d who puts all in on the move. Has a well proportioned head. Lengthy neck. Slightly better front than 2. Holds a level topline. Well set tail. For me has lightly too much hind angulation, low hocks and uses rear so v well.in super jacket. CC

Lovely type and close up. Head planes could be better. Correct ear length. Lengthy neck and a well laid shoulder. Could be longer in upper arm. He is well ribbed. Moderate in his rear. Liked his coat texture. Accurate on the move. Still young but so much good about him. RCC

Won class on his correct proportions. Quite a good head. Correct ears. Enough neck. Shoulders are a bit forward. Grand body. Level topline. He has enough hind angulation. Good coat. Went v well.

A good moving nicely put together d who is longer than 1. Liked his head. Enough neck. He has well sprung ribs. Slightly long in loin. Low hocks. Went well.

 Very typy and also very raw, which at her age is fine. Super head. Lovely eyes and ears. Lengthy neck into a decent shoulder. Straight legs. She is well ribbed back, level in topline. Has enough hind angulation. V good mover. BP. A v good prospect

2ND 6738 - Tangaer Jump for Joy (Ms L Lewis)

Slightly longer in back and a bit heavier in body today than 1. Better head than 3. Long neck. She is slightly forward in shoulder. Well sprung ribs, firm topline. Moderate rear. Accurate on the move.

Liked her proportions the best. She is still young and needs more body and muscle. V fem head of good proportions. Lengthy neck. Has quite a good front. Level topline. Moderate and well balanced in her angulation.t could be better.

2ND 6755 - Overbecks Ruby Shelby (Mrs L & Mrs S Scott & Brundle)

She has a super coat, just a bit longer in body than 1. Liked her head. Ears ok. Medium length of neck. Level topline. Moderate rear. Moved v well and many qualities.

Shame there were a number absent here. Whilst for me the winner stood away the others took a lot of sorting out and were all very competitive.

So full of petit temperament and a great mover. She has a beautiful head, super eye and expression. Lengthy neck into well laid shoulder, long upper arm. Well sprung ribs. Firm in topline. Plenty of hind angulation. Super coat. Full of quality a great outline and so full of breed type. Thrilled to have such a beautiful petit to award BOB and of course ended up RBIS.

She is v well made. Similar proportions to 1. I liked her head. Long neck into well laid shoulders. Moderate in rear. Accurate mover with a lengthy stride.
