Manchester Dog Show Society

Breed: Leonberger

Manchester. Leonbergers

I last judged this breed at Crufts 2024, and was absolutely spoilt for choice. Many beautiful dogs and the lovely BOB winner won the group that day. It would be unfair to compare that entry with Manchester’s, but I have to say I was very disappointed with quality. There was a great variation in proportions, some too short and others far too long. Some mouths were not right. Bad tails were a huge worry, the standard is easy to understand; “well furnished, straight, reaching at least to hock. On the move, tail slightly curved, not carried above level of back. Never forming a ring.” Too many were carried too high, too curved, some made a ring and some had a hook at the end. This really spoils the outline and almost makes the dog untypical. Temperaments were delightful.

Special Beginners D. (2)

1st: 4594 JACKSON, Miss Holly-mae Lunahai Like A Hurricane For Reveraki

Presents a v good outline. Lengthy head that could be slightly broader in skull. Lengthy neck. Well laid shoulder. V good spring of rib. Topline slightly soft. Strong rear. He is a v good mover, could curl tail less, but a v good dog. BSB and well done on winning SB group.

Slightly different type of dog. He is short in back. Liked his masc head, dark eyes. V balanced in his moderate angulation. Deep chest. Carried tail well.

Firm topline. V good tear. Moved well, holding tail correctly. Im not a fan of top awards to youngstrs in large breeds, however for me he has so many breed qualities he had to be CC & BOB
