Breed: Group Championship show

NORTHEAST OF ENGLAND TOY DOG SOCIETY

12TH July 2026

Judge Jeanie Montford (Australia)

Firstly, my sincere apologies for the late arrival of this report. I would like to thank the Committee of the Northeast of England Toy Dog Society for the invitation to judge here and compliment them on the outstanding organization of the show held at Gosforth Racecourse – an ideal venue with room for rings both outdoors and inside. The array of prizes and trophies was amazing and so much had been done to make the day enjoyable for all who attended.

I am fortunate to have travelled to the UK on a regular basis since the early 1970’s, (first awarding CCs in my own breed in 1985). During all that time I have been privileged to have seen many of the most outstanding Toy dogs of the British Isles. To say the group at this show was outstanding would be an understatement. It was surely one of the best for depth of quality that I have ever seen.

My short list, apart from my four eventually placed dogs, included the English Toy Terrier, Lady In Black At Witchstone beautifully balanced sleek conformation, Griffon Bruxellois Zilcan Captain Cave Man compact but with substance, in good short harsh jacket, King Charles Spaniel Ch Baldragon Russian Around With Khatibi such a showgirl but briming with breed type, Papillion Ch Gleniren Miracle Starmaker delightfully feminine lovely head with such mobile ears and Pomeranian Ch Sueacres Catch A Dream JW so compact and in good coat.

BEST : Ch Benatone Glint Of Gold – Maltese. From a truly star-studded group, I was captivated by this exquisite dog so very correct in all the breed essentials. So well made all through, a meltingly beautiful head and expression, dense black pigment and a coat of the finest true silk texture which reflected the light when he moved so effortlessly around the ring maintaining a correct level topline.

RESERVE : Ch Jameneli Back To Black – Lowchen Such a handsome lad so masculine without being in any way coarse, exemplary conformation such a pleasure to go over him. He has a perfectly correct head proudly carried. He moved with great accuracy and animation with a commanding ring presence enhanced by his immaculate presentation.

3rd : Limartine Stand And Stare – Bichon Frise Striking in outline at first look and just as good under the coat. Appealing expression enhanced by dense back pigment, correct proportions of muzzle and skull, a reachy neck leading into well laid shoulders, compact loin and well angulated hindquarters. Well pigmented pads, presented in a classic trim which enhanced his good qualities.

4th : Ch Ellemich American Express – Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - My first chance to go over this history maker in my own breed and I wasn’t disappointed. Mature and masculine without being overdone in any way, he fills the eye…. appealing head with expressive eyes, correct muzzle, broad skull and correctly high set ears. Well balanced with compact loin and well angulated hindquarters. In profuse coat of the correct silky texture and good rich chestnut. Beautifully presented, he completed this quartet of dogs of the highest quality.

1st : Delbrupar's The Gambler - BICHON FRISÉ `A striking puppy of correct proportions, quality head with correct triangle of eyes and nose, well arched neck, broad loin, good dense pigment and a smart mover.

2nd : White Knight At Witchstone - ENGLISH TOY TERRIER (BLACK & TAN) Alert and eye catching puppy, just the right amount of bone retaining the breed’s elegant appearance, lovely outline, refined head with sparkling eyes, easy and precise mover.

TOY GROUP SPECIAL BEGINNERS

I think this is a wonderful class to encourage new exhibitors, and I wish that we could have it as an option in Australia. Congratulations to the committee who went the extra mile for this class with a show trolly as the prize for the winner. I hope that you will make good use of it at future shows.

TOY GROUP VETERAN

Competition was hot in this class of Veterans – such depth of quality. It was wonderful to see so many looking so well and making the most of their time in the ring.

So very correct in breed type, the sweetest of expressions, ideal size with moderate bone, well angulated and maintained her correct outline on the move. Presented in profuse silky textured coat.

2nd : Tidos Cherry Pip - CHIHUAHUA (LONG COAT) – She certainly has the saucy expression called for , flaring ears, good skull, I liked her body proportions, fine bone, and her cheeky personality on the move.

3rd : Ch Florita Tavalino - ITALIAN GREYHOUND – This 12-year-old boy really impressed – so beautifully made, a picture of elegance from his head through his neck to well laid shoulders and well angulated hindquarters which he used so well on the move carrying himself with great dignity. I loved his flowing curves.
