HUNGARIAN VIZSLA CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW - 14th JUNE 2026

Many thanks to the Hungarian Vizsla Club for their kind invitation to judge their Championship show. It is always an honour to judge at breed Championship level, and I was delighted with an entry of seventy dogs. The spacious ring allowed me to assess movement thoroughly, and I am grateful to my efficient stewards for keeping everything running smoothly. I was incredibly pleased with my final line-ups and saw some excellent examples of the breed, a very enjoyable afternoon.

Minor Puppy Dog (2)

1st Roe’s Donurie’s Im Still Standing by Pirospont

A very promising youngster, approaching nine months, with an excellent head, correct proportions and good pigmentation. He has correct shoulders and front, a firm back, level topline and adequate rear angulation. His coat is a lovely rich colour, and he moved out on a good stride for his age.

Puppy Dog (1)

1st Bergin’s Riversby Redwood of Roughshoot (Imp Usa)

A well-constructed puppy with correct head shape, good eye colour and a gentle expression. I liked his overall conformation, correct shoulders, well sprung ribs, moderate rear angulation and compact feet. Enthusiastic when moving but he is very sound and will settle with age I think he would benefit from a slower pace while still young, he held his topline well and showed strong rear drive. Pleased to award him BPD and BPIS.

Junior Dog (3)

1st O’Brien’s Soletrader Rockin Robin

A well-constructed youngster with a balanced outline when stacked. He has a typical noble head with good finish to muzzle. Sound forequarters with enough bone, correct back length and sufficient rear angulation. A little loose in front movement at present, but this should improve with maturity. He is a lively mover, covers the ground well and carries his tail correctly. A really promising prospect

2nd Irving’s Oroshaza Reka

Not as refined in head as my winner, but he has a gentle expression and good eye colour. Adequate neck length flows into well-laid shoulders and a straight front. He already has good depth and body substance. His handler moved him far too quickly, which made him erratic, but in his second novice class he took my advice, moved at a steadier pace, and showed a marked improvement.

Yearling Dog (2)

1st Layton’s Layways All About You

A close decision in this class. My winner has a super head with sufficient stop and a pleasing expression. He is well balanced throughout, with correct angulation front and rear, good chest depth and well-sprung ribs. He has adequate bone, is well muscled and was presented in excellent condition. He moved with drive and purpose; a quality youngster who simply needs time to mature.

2nd Challis Vizslanya Sarkany JW

Another quality and strongly made youngster with a balanced outline when stacked. He has a masculine, typical head of correct proportions, an excellent forehand, level topline and well-sprung ribs. With a well-developed second thigh and correct rear angulation, his conformation allowed him to move well with good rear drive and the desired horizontal tail carriage.

Novice Dog (1)

1st Oroshaza Reka (repeat)

Post Graduate Dog (3)

1st Newton’s Nevedith Thunder Bolt

This was a mixed class. My winner had a classic head, lean with sufficient skull width and good finish to muzzle. He is clean in outline, with correct body depth, a firm level topline and moderate rear angulation. Shown in good muscular condition, he moved with reach and drive from strong hocks. I see he is litter brother to my Bitch CC winner but is not yet as finished; with more maturity, I’m sure he could take top honours.

2nd Murray & Parker Szelkiraly’s Foolproof JW

Another promising male, typical head of correct proportions and good eye colour. Good neck length leading to well laid shoulders firm throughout body, he has strong hindquarters and correct tailset and tight feet. Not as positive in front movement as my winner.

3rd Sharrocks Vizash Hunor

Limit Dog (9)

1st Harper’s Pitswarren Tempus Viator (ai)

A very strong class of top-quality males, with several close decisions. My winner was a smart two-year-old with good bone and excellent construction throughout. He has a super head shape with dark eye, a muscular neck of good length, excellent forehand, strong pasterns and good body depth. Behind, he has sufficient stifle and stands on strong hocks. He powered around the ring, and I could not fault his movement from any angle. Presented in excellent muscular condition with a rich russet jacket to complete the picture, he was totally fit for function. My CC winner and ultimately BIS.

2nd Watson’s Oakswarren Trickster

Another quality two-year-old, not as well developed in body as my winner. He appeals in head with correct lean head proportions, adequate stop and a lovely expression. Well-laid shoulders, tight elbows, a firm level topline, good ribbing and correct rear angulation. He covered the ground well with steady flowing movement in the class. I thought he might be my Res CC winner but unfortunately when called back in he became unsettled and would not co-operate in the challenge.

3rd Palmer’s Roughshoot Seabiscuit at Parmelly JW

Open Dog (8)

1st Watkins & Kain Sh Ch Kincsem Break Every Rule JW

Another excellent class of quality males. My first place had superb balance from every angle, with nothing exaggerated. He has correct angulation front and rear, a broad chest, firm short back, well-sprung ribs, good feet and correct tailset. Attractive in head, lean and noble, with dark eye, he truly came into his own on the move, showing a precise, lively gait in complete harmony with his handler, who gets one hundred percent from him. Presented in superb condition. Res CC

2nd Watson’s Sh Ch Oakswarren Inferno

I judged him as an impressive youngster, and he has certainly fulfilled that early promise. Quality throughout, he has a superior head, correct skull width and good eye colour. He scores in shoulders and front, with a firm topline, moderate rear angulation, the right amount of bone and a well-balanced outline. He moved with a ground-covering stride and correct tail carriage.

3rd Bradley’s Sh Ch Highforce All or Nothing JW ShCEx OSW

Veteran Dog (2)

1st Challis Highforce Future Legend for Vizslanya JW ShCEx VW

Two excellent veterans in this class, both a credit to their owners. My first place was a very well-constructed dog I have previously admired, and at ten years old he still retains real quality. He has a refined head, dark eye and kind expression, with well-laid shoulders, a solid front, correct level back and firm hindquarters with adequate stifle. Although his coat is very dark, his other qualities cannot be overlooked. He moved like a youngster, sound and precise, with his owner getting the very best from him.

2nd Clubb, Mason & Findlay Sh Ch Oroshaza Chukar VW Cw18

Another quality eleven-year-old veteran, still in excellent condition. He has a classic, well-proportioned head, kind expression and distinguished grey muzzle. Good straight front, correct shoulders, deep chest with prominent breastbone and a strong, firm body. Still well muscled behind and standing on strong hocks, he moved soundly, a lovely old boy.

Special Beginners Dog (3)

1st Denholme’s Roxombury Moonage Daydream of Molheden

Placed VHC in the strong Limit class. A dog of good overall shape, with correct shoulders and a level topline. He is well muscled, with moderate stifles and compact feet. I would prefer a more refined head, but he moved out well on a good stride.

2nd Mcculloch & Robertson Dinnsearmor's Glenlochy

Typical in head, with good skull width and a kind expression. His neck is muscular and of adequate length. Has good depth and tuck up but I would prefer more angulation front and rear. He moved well and was shown in good muscular condition.

3rd Oroshaza Reka (repeat)

Minor Puppy Bitch (2)

1st Mcbeath’s Roughshoot Ximenex for Redhunt

A promising, elegant eight-month-old bitch with a pretty, feminine head of correct shape. She has well-placed shoulders, a straight front and tight feet. A little unsettled when stacked, but she is developing well and is exactly where she should be for her age. She has a rich coat colour and simply needs to compose herself on the move. She shows good promise for the future. BPB & Res BPIS

2nd McDonald’s Donurie's Harlekuin

A rangier, longer cast bitch than my winner and at that awkward growth stage. She has a pretty head, lovely expression, adequate neck length, pleasing shoulder lay and sufficient tuck-up. Super colour and coat texture, and she moved well for a youngster.

Puppy Bitch (2)

Both exhibits were absent. A very promising puppy entered the ring but was clearly lame on the first circuit, due to a sting on the foot and sadly had to be withdrawn. My second from Minor Puppy also withdrew from this class.

Junior Bitch (4)

1st Smith’s Butterfly Hunter Pancake

This young bitch caught my eye immediately when I first examined the line. She is beautifully balanced, presenting a clean, striking outline. Her head is excellent, correctly proportioned, very feminine and with a dark eye. She has a superb front assembly, correct shoulders, a level topline and moderate stifles. Sound and precise on the move, she was handled to perfection. Considered her for the Res CC and I believe she has a great future.

2nd Ward & Harrison Glenbrows Blush at Tantaraviz

Another pleasing youngster, taller in frame and not quite as feminine throughout as my winner. I liked her overall make and shape, with a straight honest front, strong pasterns and good body depth. She has firm loin and well-developed hindquarters with enough rear angulation, she moved with drive from strong hocks.

3rd Scott Legg & Scott Oakswarren Believe in Magic

Yearling Bitch (3)

1st Stalker Aranyvadasz Uccu for Kinharrachie (Imp Rom)

A well constructed bitch with a feminine, well-proportioned head and kind expression. She has well laid shoulders and good angulation front and rear with adequate sweep to stifle. Although very promising, she remains immature and needs time to fill her frame. A sound mover with correct topline and tailset.

2nd Gammon’s Glenbrows Opera D'arte JW

Her head is attractive and of decent shape with well set ears and good eye colour. Balanced throughout, she is clean over neck leading into correct shoulders, with good body depth, well-sprung ribs and correct rear angulation. I would not want any more of her, and she lacked the femininity of my winner, but she moved soundly and truly while holding her topline in profile.

3rd Warner’s Nordicfield Lady Jaeger

Novice Bitch (3)

1st Aranyvadasz Uccu for Kinharrachie (repeat)

2nd Roughshoot Ximenex for Redhunt (repeat)

Post Graduate Bitch (4)

1st Gottlieb’s Russetmantle Lilou

A bitch of lovely make and size that stood out for her super outline and balance. She has a beautiful head, very feminine with kind expression, clean over neck leading to correct shoulders and front, with compact feet. She has moderate angulation fore and aft. A precise mover holding her topline well, nothing exaggerated about her and quite elegant, should do well.

2nd Mcbeath’s Roughshoot Red Hot for Redhunt

This bitch appealed in head, with sufficient skull width, good finish to muzzle and sound pigmentation. Stacked, she presents a clean outline and is well constructed throughout, with good ribbing and adequate tuck-up. She is an attractive colour and was shown in super condition but was not quite as collected on the move as my winner.

3rd Gammon’s Glenbrows Reminiscent

Limit Bitch (14)

Without doubt, this was the best class of the day, full of quality and made for challenging decisions.

1st Hardy & Phillips Nevedith Golden Reign at Szelfuto JW

A top quality bitch, everything just flowed together to create a beautifully balanced picture. She has a very appealing head, kind expression and well-set ears. Well constructed throughout, she has an excellent front, strong pasterns, correct body depth, firm level topline with strong loin and good width to her hindquarters. She came into her own on the move, sound and true, with excellent reach and drive and presented in tip top condition. Pleased to award her the CC and Res BIS.

2nd Connolly’s Roughshoot Tiffin

Attractive head full of breed type, with kind eye and gentle expression. Excellent shoulders and front, tight elbows and compact feet. She is solidly made throughout, with good chest depth, well-developed hindquarters, moderate rear angulation, good thigh width and strong hocks. Excellent on the move, showing strong rear drive.

3rd Hardcastle & Bradley Castledogley Firenze JW

Open Bitch (8)

1st Layton’s Sh Ch Layways Cinnamon Girl

Another top-quality class. My first place excelled in head, with correct shape, feminine throughout and good eye colour. She presented a balanced outline when stacked, with a clean neck of moderate length, super forehand with tight elbows correct topline and strong over croup. She is quite eye-catching from every angle and of a pleasing size, her deep russet jacket completed the picture. She covered the ground on an easy stride, holding her topline well in profile. A very worthy Show Champion of the breed. Res CC

2nd Gottlieb’s Sh Ch Russetmantle Maia (ai)

Another excellent bitch of lovely size, well balanced throughout and without any exaggeration. Very appealing in head, with good eye colour and a soft expression. Feminine throughout yet solidly framed, with good bone, correct angulation and sufficient body depth. Shown in excellent coat condition and pleasing colour. She pushed my winner hard but was not quite as fluid on the move.

3rd Harper’s Sh Ch Pitswarren Jiko JW

Veteran Bitch (4)

1st Wall’s Ch Piroseg Mandarin of Perllanside JW

A soundly constructed, workmanlike bitch to whom I have previously awarded a Res CC. She has an attractive head so typical of the breed with kind eye and expression. Correct front and shoulders and still maintains a solid topline, with strong loin and adequate rear angulation. Difficult to believe she is now nine years old, still moving with positive drive and purpose. Best Veteran

2nd Hardcastle & Bradley Sh Ch Vizslanya Sziena JW ShCEx OSW VW

A quality bitch with a beautiful head and expression. Muscular neck, excellent forehand, elbows nice and tight in, compact feet, adequate bend of stifle and strong hocks. Another excellent veteran, she is of super colour, she lost out to my winner on condition as she was carrying a few extra pounds today.

3rd Aynsley’s Sh Ch Recuerdo Monika of Caorunn VW (Miss G)

Field Trial Bitch (2)

1st Gloudman’s Shilla Line Uma at Blisspoint

This bitch was fourth in the splendid limit class. She is a pleasing medium size, attractive in head and correctly proportioned. Good neck length, correct shoulder lay, strong pasterns and neat feet. Her topline is solid and has strong hindquarters. She was shown to advantage in the large ring, moving with a graceful, ground-covering stride. Best FT

2nd Ch Piroseg Mandarin of Perllanside JW (repeat)

Special Beginners Bitch (2)

Entries: 2 Absentees: 0

1st Roughshoot Red Hot for Redhunt (repeat)

2nd Gammon’s Martgarian Zantara JW

A feminine bitch with a kind expression, well-shaped head and dark eye. She has a good straight front and well-developed chest, firm topline but I would prefer more rear angulation She needs to tighten in front movement but covered the ring well on a good stride.
