Midland Whippet Club

Breed: Breed Championship show

Midland Whippet 18th October

Firstly a big thank you to everyone who entered under me. Judging whippets always reminds me how sporting exhibitors of this breed can be. On the whole exhibits were presented in a clean condition, teeth were clean but the bites on one or two were not true scissor bites. Nails were trimmed correctly and not dremeled into little stubs which is just so ugly. As expected 99% of the exhibits temperaments were very good. There is a big difference between a dog being shy and a dog who is clearly nervous and not happy and a couple of dogs presented were clearly stressed.

Special Veteran (7-9 years) (5,2)

1. Ch Ticks The Boxes at Turnstone (Mr J & Mrs V Turnbull) 7.5 years young brindle boy and one I have admired over the years. Masculine head, good length of neck and he was balanced throughout. Presented in good condition and he stood over enough ground without being exaggerated. Held his topline on the move and moved out sound enough, a really honest sort of dog and pleased he went on to be Best Veteran dog and Best Veteran in show.

2. Penbriar Jet Setter to Solentwaves (Mrs K & Mr A Mcdonald) Another boy aged 7.5 years young, Lovely Black coat and in peak condition and fit for purpose. Masculine with a nice head and a good length of neck. More curvy than 1 and he moved out well in profile.

Special Veteran (10 years plus) (2,2) Absent

Minor Puppy (11,7)

A very mixed class of types

1.Creme Anglaise’s Time Traveller to Silkridge (Mrs C & Mr K Perkins & Van Der Schaaf) 8 Months old, An attractive brindle who stands over enough ground. Attractive head and good length of neck. Well put together from his neck to his hind quarters. He is good for size and at the stage of development you would expect for a young puppy. He can already power around the ring without losing his topline and once he matures into himself he can only go from strength to strength. BPD & RBPIS

2. Shalfleet Crackerjack (Ms J Wilton-Clark) 6 months old so very much the baby he should be. Attractive parti colour and ideal for size. Nice head and decent length of neck, good topline and well angulated to the rear. He doesn’t stand over as much ground as 1 I did find that the breastbone was a touch obvious which just spoilt the overall picture on the stand but his movement was very true coming and going and in profile.

3. Shirotae Phantom Gold (Mrs A Vaughan-Wall)

Puppy (8,7)

This was a very mixed class

1. Shalfleet Saros (Ms J Wilton-Clark) 9 months old a very attractive red brindle with white trim. A masculine head with a lovely dark eye and a lovely expression. Nice neck with good overall topline and a good front but for me he fell away a bit behind on the stand and I liked him better on the move which secured his first place

2. Osterfen Izumi with Oxana (Miss S J Shepherd), 11 months old, a cream Fawn built on more classic lines and smaller cast than some other puppies he was up against today. He has a nice head and expression and a good length of neck. He is still maturing into himself and still needs to drop into himself. He moved out well soundly enough. Nothing about him was overstated

3. Osterfen Himeji (Mrs M Southwick)

Junior (12,11)

1. Emandoria Florida Pearl with Tumblers (Imp Pol) (Mrs J Miluk) Brindle dog of 17 months presented in well-muscled condition. He has a masculine attractive head, nice length of neck and good topline. Well let down hocks, slightly long in loin but he was the best mover in the class on the day.

2. Osterfen Izumi with Oxana (Miss S J Shepherd)

3. Osterfen Himeji (Mrs M Southwick)

Yearling (8,6)

1. Silkridge Figgy Pudding with Zeglynn JW (Ms G Z Perkins). Brindle dog, nice for size, Masculine head, Good length of neck, well balanced throughout with a good front and rear, moved out well enough but the handler needs to move to his pace to see his good movement.

2. Silkridge in Black and White (Mrs D Bowsher) Black and white dog, Masculine head, Well set neck and shoulders and well let down hocks, slightly longer in loin but he moved out well coming and going and in profile. He was presented in very fit condition.

3. Whippiness Eyes Down at Elvaria (Mrs S J Leverett)

Maiden(8,7)

A very mixed class

1.Osterfen Himeji (Mrs M Southwick), Just coming up to 12 months, Fawn parti of nice type built on classic lines with nothing that is overdone, a nice head and expression, good length of neck, Still needs to mature but moved out well enough.

2. Back to The Future (Ms Severn) 7 years old Brindle boy, Secured his place in this class on movement, Larger overall than the class winner he had a masculine head and a good length of neck. Presented in good fit condition.

3. Reffton Elián (Miss N & Mr D Searle & Gonzalez Tirado)

Special Beginners (21,18)

This really was a nice class to judge

1.Cleeton We Go Together at Firesprite (Ms S De Graffham), An attractive fawn brindle dog, lovely outline from his masculine head, long neck and well-constructed front. Good Topline and underline and with correct hind angulation he moved out well for his handler who clearly adores him. He started to flag by the end of the day, and his tail went a bit all over the place but during this class he did enough.

2. Wincarton Kingsman (Mr J Clissold) – Another attractive red brindle dog who really came up close to the winner. Lovely for size and type, attractive head and good length of neck. Good topline and well let down behind. Moved out well, lots to like.

3. Crosscop Kiss Me Here for Mackjama (Mr A Strong)

Graduate(12,12)

1. Palmik Raincheck JW (Mr M & Ms Y Howgate & Hull) Another very typey young dog from this kennel. An appealing masculine head with a lovely expression. Good length of neck, Good topline, underline and rear angulation. Moved around soundly coming and going and in profile. Nothing about him is overdone.

2. Derohan Dark Tornado (Miss K Manners) Black dog with white trim, Attractive head with a nice expression, good ear carriage. Long neck Correct topline and well angulated behind. Moved out well around the ring. His coat and muscle tone is a credit to his owner.

3. Cleeton We Go Together at Firesprite (Ms S De Graffham)

Post Graduate(6,3)

1.Citycroft Not My First Rodeo at Runforest JW (Miss M Dillon), Fawn boy. A masculine dog who fills the eye. Still a young dog he is well made and already showing plenty of quality and potential. I found him balanced from his well set neck through his topline to his hocks. It can’t be denied that he isn’t a small boy but he has quality and can really move soundly through all the paces. Pleased to award him the DCC

1. Cyangrange Carpe Diem (Mrs Y & Mr R Murton) Cream brindle, Attractive head and expression, Good length of neck and good front, a touch long in loin. Well let down hocks, he came into his own once he started to move. Still a young dog he needs to mature but should have a bright future.

3. Burglade Bow and Arrow for Whipwey (Mrs P E Cole)

Mid Limit (9,8)

1.Tervanty Dream of Dragons at Scarletfair (Miss H Wayman) a lot to like about this dog. He is correct for size and nothing is overdone. Masculine without being overdone. Nice head and expression. Good length of neck and good shoulder. Good top and under line. Moved round soundly A real honest type, will watch him with interest.

2. Ardencote Keep Dreaming (Mrs J P Wood) a fawn dog again correct for size and type and again nothing is overdone. Lovely head and expression, Nice neck and front construction and correct top and underline. Sound moving as expected from this established kennel. Pushed the winner hard and could change place at any time.

3. Kierpark Devil in Disguise JW (Mr K J & Mrs K M Rees & Jones)

Limit (9,8)

1. Ohoka Tip Top (Mrs F Graham). Another quality Fawn with white trim. A pleasing Masculine head with a lovely expression Good length of neck, well-made front construction and good length of rib, good topline and underline. Well-made hindquarters and he covers the ground whilst moving out so soundly. If he hasn’t already, I think he has a bright future.
