Gordon Setters

Only a smallish entry but I had some lovely Gordons to assess and I am pleased to say the colour was much improved from my last appointment, most had rich clear tan on their heads with just a few with smutty marks on their legs.

Yearling D (1) 1st Hall's Rhiwgerrig Caractacus By Melview, very promising young dog with fabulous clear bright tan. Masculine in head with more work to come. Lovely straight front, well boned and good tight feet. Arched neck into excellent shoulders, presents a good outline, once relaxed shows a good bend of stifle. Moved very well, sound and with drive.

Novice D no entries

Post Grad D (4,1abs) 1st Gregg's Caradilis Fiach Dubh, most balanced in this class, built on clean lines with coat in excellent condition. Kind expression, good tan on face but could be clearer on legs. Good straight front both in stance and on the move. Well angulated shoulders, deep in brisket, strong rearquarters. Tail carried slightly high but went soundly. 2nd Horler's Colourbox Wild Wild West With Rackens, more rugged in type, similar remarks about tan. Well constructed fore and rearquarters. Good reach of neck, level topline. moved with drive. 3rd Tye's Roydack Black Knight At Tymora.

Limit D (6,1abs) 1st Cuthbertson's Lainnireach Star Gazer jw, took my eye on the first circuit of the ring with his strong driving movement and I wasn't disappointed on further examination. Lovely male head, strong but not at all coarse. Straight front, excels in forehand angulation and equally well constructed rearquarters. Deep in brisket, level topline with pleasing croup. Good rich tan on his face, could be just slightly clearer on legs. Presented in lovely coat and condition. His excellent sound and powerful action gained him the well deserved Dog CC, his 3rd I am told, congratulations. 2nd McCarthy's Hernwood Wizard Of Oz jw, slightly heavier in head but again not coarse. Good straight front, well angulated shoulders, level topline and good tailset, well turned stifles and short rear pasterns. Clearer tan than the winner but he was moving a touch close behind. Ede's Borroughtof Loch Leven At Glenarden.

Open D (1) 1st Mitchell's Sh Ch Cafotaliena Thief Of Hearts jw, well balanced quality dog with excellent colour. Lovely moulded head with very kind expression. Pleasing reach of neck into clean shoulders, straight front with neat feet, deep in brisket, level topline and good tailset. Lovely conditioned coat. Well deserved Res.CC just missing out as not quite so precise behind today.

Veteran B (3,1abs) 1st Nagaty's Marlbeck Madalena, preferred her for her more rugged Gordon type and better movement. Lovely clear tan, still retaining it's richness. Beautiful well balanced head, well placed shoulders. Not the easiest on the stack but when she relaxed her topline was level. Best Veteran. 2nd Hardy's Cottonstones Evergreen With Cafotaliena, well presented by her young handler. For me she is a little fine especially in head which is of a good shape but doesn't have the strength which defines the Gordon from the other Setters. Again lovely tan markings. Straight front, well constructed shoulders and matching rearquarters. Moved a little close going away. I see she is the dam of the reserve cc winner and his titled sister so she has been a successful brood bitch when mated to the right dog.

Minor Puppy B (1) 1st Ackerley-Kemp's Yennadon Dulsie's Charm, what a little poppet a bit overawed at first but we got there in the end. Most promising, lovely colour, well boned, straight front with good feet, good reach of neck, well angulated both forequarters and rear, level topline. Moved well. Best Puppy it was a shame she was the only puppy entered I am sure she could of withstood some competition.

Yearling B (1) 1st Sweryda's Waseley Hazy Dayz, good clear tan, feminine head with dark eyes. Straight front both standing and in action, neat feet, good reach of neck, level topline, shapely hindquarters. Moved well just needs maturity to complete the picture.

Novice B (1,1abs)

Post Grad. B ( 3) This was a good class with little between them 1st Bryants Laurelhach Lotus With Muckypups jw, balanced bitch showing a lovely outline. Coat in lovely condition with clear tan markings, decent head with a dark eye. Lovely reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Shapely powerful rearquarters used to good use to drive around the ring. 2nd Smith's Kewstoke Sea Queen Zena, lovely head which I preferred to the first. Clear tan, well angulated shoulders, level topline into good tailset. I'd like a touch more bend of stifle which she may still get as she relaxes more into her showing. A quality bitch but not the free flowing movement of the winner. 3rd Thomas's Chartan Little Black Dress.

Limit B ( 4) 1st Sandiford's Eusanit Marcella At Hernwood, won on her lovely head and sound, free movement. Tan could be clearer on legs. Straight front, neat feet, lovely well laid back shoulders, plenty of depth, strong hindquarters, level topline, good tailset and carriage. Excellent condition Res.CC. 2nd Ackerley-Kemp's Yennadon Highland Heidi sgwc, not quite so finished as winner and tended to stick her nose in the air stood which shortened her neck and distracted from her outline overall. Lovely rich tan which was mostly clear. Level topline and strong rearquarters, moved well. 3rd Hardy's Cafotaliena All Eyes On Me.

Open B (4)1st Patterson's Sh Ch Am Gr Ch Can Ch Fenwyck's Glamour, already a well known winner and easy to see why, she is stunning. Lovely well moulded head although to be critical when she looks up at you the expression could be slightly softer, low set ears. Excels in conformation with well angulated fore and rearquarters, ample depth and level topline. My preference would be for a little more trimming of the feathering from stifle to hock to show off her shapely quarters. Coat in fabulous condition. Very sound and stylish movement. Bitch CC & BOB delighted that she went on the win the Gundog Group. 2nd Smith's Amscot Air Born Via Kewstoke, lovely head and dark expressive eyes. Excels in shoulder angulation, level topline. Well developed rearquarters. In lovely coat condition. Strode out well in the class although slightly close behind. Having awarded her the reserve ticket last time I did think she would be getting another but she really threw in the towel when called back for the challenge. 3rd Hardy's Sh Ch Cafotaliena Hello My Love.
