SPANIEL (SUSSEX)
Judge: Mrs Jane Eyeington (Meadowdale)
I would like to thank the officers and committee for their kind invitation to judge at their show. I was delighted to be afforded the opportunity to award CC’s for the first time in this unique and delightful breed. Thank you to my stewards for their time and assistance with the smooth running of the ring. But most of all, ‘thank you’ to all the exhibitors for the great honour of judging your super dogs. I very much enjoyed my time with the Sussex Spaniels.

A very promising youngster, celebrating his first birthday tomorrow. He has everything in the right place for his age, presenting a good type and a balanced silhouette. His head is masculine, with a well-defined stop and median line, and a muzzle of both the right amount of length and depth. His eyes are beginning to darken. He has a good length of neck, leading into a firm, well-held topline and correct tail carriage. Strong, wide quarters provide him with plenty of drive around the ring. BPIB

At just 6 months old, he is truly a baby, and it was lovely to see him enjoying the experience. As expected at his age, he still has much developing to do. When standing, he shows a good length of leg, which will allow him to drop into himself as he matures. He has the right amount of bone and substance, holds a firm topline, and carries his tail well. Time will undoubtedly be his friend.
2nd: 6405 ROBERTS, Mr D Eald Wolf Moon Over Swansford
What a sweet puppy. Litter brother to the winner, but quite different in stature at present. Currently, he is a little lower on the leg and was not holding his topline quite as firmly. He has a balanced head shape, good length of neck, well-developed forechest, and well-sprung ribs. Once again, it is lovely to see his happy and outgoing nature shine through.

Litter brother to the winner, and similar remarks apply. Another pleasing youngster, he has a slightly stronger head than his brother, with a definite stop and a keen, alert expression, attentive to his surroundings. He holds a firm topline, with a good forechest and depth to the brisket. Today, he was not quite as precise in his movement behind.

This 18-month-old dog presents a pleasing outline when standing, with ample bone and substance. His head displays good width to the backskull with a gentle arch, a definite stop, and a median line accentuated by his frowning brow. His eyes are fairly tight and toning. He has a strong neck that flows into a well-held topline, with a good spring to the ribcage and depth of chest. He stands on well-boned limbs and well-rounded feet, moving out steadily and true in his action.
2nd: 6396 MARSTON, Mr James Wollasbridge Barnaby
This two-year-old dog displays good overall balance and a typical outline. He has a masculine head with good skull width, well-placed ears that frame his face, and a strength to the foreface, his eye is a shade lighter. His neck is of good length, and he maintains a level topline, his body and ribbing are not quite as developed as the winner's. He moved out purposefully.

4-year-old dog has so much appeal, when standing, he presents a picture of strength, substance, and fitness. His proportions and balance create a flowing outline. He has an attractive headpiece, with good width and a lovely curve to the backskull, a defined stop, well-toned, tight eyes, and the typical frowning brow. His strong neck leads into a well-filled forechest and a brisket that is well let down. His ribs are carried well back to a strong loin. He possesses strong, wide quarters, which he used effectively on the move. He is a tidy mover, though he tended to fly his tail slightly today, but this did not detract from his powerful, driving action. Presented in excellent coat and condition. DCC & BOS
2nd: 6378 ALDERSON, Mrs S Sh Ch Stormacre Tiny Dancer With Meggamooch JW
2-year-old dog who looked a picture on the stack, displaying excellent overall balance and proportions, with each part flowing seamlessly into the next. Today, for me, he was carrying just a fraction too much condition. He has a masculine head with good width, a frowning brow, well-placed ears, and expressive, toning eyes. His neck is of good length, leading into a firm, level topline and a well-set tail. He is well-developed in body, with a good spring of rib and depth of brisket and stands on well-boned limbs. His strong, wide quarters contribute to powerful, positive movement. Presented in a lovely, flat, rich golden liver jacket. RDCC

Litter sister to my best puppy dog, she is another very typey youngster, though just a little unsettled today. She shows good overall proportions when standing. Her feminine head has the right amount of strength and width, with a nicely frowning brow. Her neck flows into a firm topline and well-set tail. She is maturing nicely through the body, just needing to settle on the move.

There is much to admire in this bitch, another sister from this lovely litter—congratulations to both breeder and owners. She has lovely body lines, displaying maturity and a good length of leg. Her head is nicely balanced, with a gentle curve to the skull, a defined stop, and well-placed ears that frame her face. She is well developed throughout the body, with a firm topline and moderate hindquarters. She moved out well and was close up to her brother for Best Puppy. BPB

2nd: 6403 OZANNE, Mrs L K & COTTINGHAM, Mrs Karen Primetime Gilded Age (imp Usa)
happy and outgoing 13-month-old bitch who showed herself off with style Ain the ring. She is slightly smaller in stature overall than the winner. Her head shape and expression are pleasing, with feminine features, tight eyes, and eye colour that tones well. She is beginning to mature through the body and holds a firm topline. A happy mover, though she did not quite match the footfall of the winner today.

Honest 2-year-old bitch possesses lovely bone and substance without being overdone. She is soundly constructed and presents a typical outline. Her skull has good width and her foreface is strong. She has a good length of neck, with a deep brisket, ribs carried well back and nicely sprung, with wide quarters. A happy mover, she shows good drive.

I liked the size, shape, and femininity of this 4-year-old bitch; she has a pleasing flow to her outline. Her head is nicely balanced, showing good width and strength, with a typical frowning brow and a dark, kind eye. She has a good length of neck, is well developed in body, with a firm topline and strong loin. Moderate rear angulation. A steady mover, though not quite as tidy behind today.
2nd: 6411 WAKEFIELD, Mr Christopher Bernard & WAKEFIELD, MRS Una Des Terres De Beaulieu Avec Norriss (Imp) Fra
3-year-old bitch is slightly more compact, with good substance and bone. She has a feminine head, a nicely curved skull, a defined stop, and good length to the foreface. Her chest is well let down, though her topline tends to be a little soft. She was not in her best jacket today. Moved out cleanly both fore and aft.

6-year-old bitch, in excellent condition and looking fit for function. Liked her overall balance, substance, and femininity. She has a pleasing length of leg combined with well-proportioned body structure. Attractive head, well-shaped backskull, and strength in the foreface. Her eyes are tight and toning in colour, giving a gentle expression. She has a strong neck of good length, flowing smoothly into a firm, well-held topline and a well-set tail. She stands on well-boned limbs and well-padded, round feet. Her body is well developed, with good spring of ribcage and no sign of waistiness. She has moderate hindquarters with good muscle tone. She presented herself impressively on the move, clean and true both fore and aft, while maintaining her outline in profile as she drove around the ring. BCC & BOB
2nd: 6402 MOWBRAY, Mrs Sue Sh Ch Gainsmill Lilly Luna Potter At Crumbledor Shcex
This 6-year-old bitch is one I have long admired, and my opinion remains unchanged. Today, however, she did not quite give her all on the move. She possesses lovely balance, with the most endearing head and expression. Her neck is strong and of good length, and she is well developed through the body, with good depth to the chest and a pleasing fill of forechest. She maintained a good topline and moved soundly both fore and aft, though she did not show the drive of today's winner. RBCC

This bitch, approaching 9 years of age, is best appreciated on the move, when she truly comes alive and shows herself to best advantage. I loved her happy demeanour. She has the desired bone and substance throughout. Her head is feminine, with a nicely toning, tight eye. She has a slightly arched neck of good length, and I liked the depth and development of her forechest. Her topline is a little soft when standing, but it levels out beautifully on the move. She has well-sprung ribs carried well back to her wide quarters, and she moves out with a positive footfall and an ever-wagging tail. BVB & BVIB
2nd: 6387 BULL, Ms S & SHORT, Mr M A J Foxhampton Femme Fatale At Bakerscroft
This 7-year-old bitch is very feminine, built from a slightly smaller mould. She has a pleasing head shape, with a gentle curve to the backskull and good strength and length to the muzzle. Her neck is of good length, flowing into a firm topline and moderate hindquarters. Her footfall was not quite as precise as the winner's today.
