I would like to thank the officers and committee of National Dog Show, for their kind invitation to judge the Curly Coated Retrievers for the first time with CC’s. I was delighted both numerically and the quality of the exhibits. I could have happily awarded several sets of green cards on the day. Thank you to my efficient stewards for keeping me on track. But most of all to you the exhibitors for the pleasure of your lovely dogs and your sporting manner. I hope you enjoyed the day as much as I did, and you all take the best dog’s home.

20-month-old black dog, presents a pleasing overall shape with good substance. He has a wedge-shaped head with parallel planes and a kind, dark eye. I liked his depth of chest and well-filled forechest. Although he lost his topline at times today, he showed a nice spring of rib and strong hindquarters. He moved out cleanly, tending to carry his tail a fraction higher at times His coat displays a good curl. Best Special Beginner

20-month-old black dog who has a balanced, unexaggerated outline, but still needing time to fully mature for a finished picture. He combines substance with masculine elegance. His attractive wedge-shaped head features a slight stop, a good length of muzzle with an endearing cowlick, and dark, intelligent eyes. He has a nicely filled forechest reaching down to the elbow, with straight forelegs ending in tight feet. There is a lovely flow from his neck through his topline to well-carried tail. His coat has good texture and curl. He moved with positive, purposeful footfall.

An upstanding and solid 2-year-old liver dog, he is unmistakably male. I liked his overall size, shape, and body lines. He has a masculine head with parallel planes, good length to the foreface, and eyes that tone well with his coat. His strong neck flows into a well-held, level topline and deep brisket. He has wide, strong quarters and low-set hocks. Though a little unsettled in his rear movement today, he showed good drive in profile.

Liver dog just turned 3 years old, an upstanding male with lovely bone, substance, and a flowing silhouette when stood. He has a masculine, wedge-shaped head with a good length of foreface, well-placed ears, and oval eyes that tone beautifully with his coat. His strong, muscular neck is of good length, complemented by a well-developed forechest and deep brisket leading to a short, strong loin. He maintains the correct topline and underline. His hindquarters are nicely angulated, with good width of thigh and excellent muscle tone. He moved out purposefully, demonstrating clean front and rear action. RDCC

This 2-year-old black dog is of pleasing size and overall type. He has a lovely wedge-shaped head with a gentle stop, well-placed ears, strong muzzle, and kind dark eyes that give a gentle, intelligent expression. His clean neck is of good length, leading smoothly into well-placed shoulders. He holds a firm topline, although it falls away slightly at the croup, and is well developed in body. He moved with purpose and drive.

Super 4-year-old black dog, exuding quality and breed type, who presented himself with confidence and style. I was immediately struck by his overall balance, substance, and masculinity, all enhanced by a touch of elegance. His handsome head is well-proportioned, with a slight stop and dark, oval eyes that convey a lovely expression. A slightly arched neck flows seamlessly into a firm, well-held topline, finishing with a well-set, well-carried tail. His body is well developed, with good depth to the brisket and a well-filled forechest, supported by nicely boned, straight forelegs. Ribs are carried well back to strong, wide quarters and low-set hocks. He is a joy to watch on the move—free, positive, and perfectly in tune with his handler. Presented in a lovely jacket of tight, crisp curls. I was delighted to award him the DCC and BOB—congratulations!

6-year-old black dog is just right for size and balance, displaying well-proportioned overall lines that create a shapely silhouette. He has a balanced wedge-shaped head with good planes and a kind, gentle expression from his dark oval eyes. His strong, muscular neck leads to a well-let-down brisket. Not have quite the width in front of the winner, he stands on well-boned limbs and tight feet. He maintains a firm topline both standing and moving, with moderate hindquarters. A clean, tidy mover, he was presented in good coat and condition.

Smart 8-year-old liver dog presented a lovely picture when stacked, with flowing lines and masculine strength. He has an endearing head with parallel planes, strength and length to the foreface, and lovely large oval dark brown eyes. His neck has good reach, flowing into well-placed shoulders. The forechest is visible and has width, with ribs well sprung and carried well back. He has good width of thigh in his quarters. He did not quite have the fluidity of movement today.

At just 6 months old, this black bitch stole my heart. She was a delight to watch—happy, outgoing, and thoroughly enjoying herself in the ring. As you would expect at her age, she is still very raw, but all the qualities are there for a promising future. She has a pretty, wedge-shaped head and lovely, large dark oval eyes with a hint of mischief. Her body shape is pleasing for her age, already showing a nice forechest and depth to the brisket. For one so young, she held a good topline with a nicely carried tail. Though a little loose on the move at present, she shows lovely animation and drive. BPIB

Oh, so naughty, but very nice, this 14-month-old black bitch certainly liked to provide her handler with a challenge. When she decides not to have ants in her pants, her shape is lovely, combining feminine strength with a shapely outline. Her angulation is harmonious, and all parts flow seamlessly. Wedge-shaped head, good strength to the foreface and a dark, mischievous eye. Well developed throughout the body, with nicely boned limbs. When she settled, you could see her clean, driving action. Shown in a tight, crisp, curled coat

14-month-old black bitch is another promising youngster with a pleasing outline and well-balanced proportions. Everything is in the right place; she just needs to tighten up a bit on the move. She has a feminine, nicely shaped wedge head, with parallel planes and dark oval eyes. Her clean neck of good length leads smoothly into a firm, well-held topline and correctly set tail. She shows lovely depth to the brisket and strong, wide quarters, and displays a good side gait.

Honest 3-year-old black bitch is moderate throughout, with good bone and substance. I liked her very feminine head, which displays the desired wedge shape and slight stop, complemented by a kind expression from her dark oval eyes. She has a moderate length of neck, a well-let-down brisket, and a well-developed, visible forechest. She stands on well-boned limbs with well-arched toes. Her ribcage is nicely sprung, with ribs carried well back to a strong loin. Her moderate hindquarters are in good muscle tone. Clean and true on the move.

This 3-year-old black bitch is the litter sister to the winner and shares a similar stature. I felt her sister moved a little cleaner behind today, but she presents an unexaggerated outline with moderate angulation. Her head is balanced and well-proportioned, complemented by a dark eye. She has a strong neck, lovely depth of chest, a good ribcage, and a short, strong loin. A happy mover who holds her outline well, she is presented in good coat.

She has a pretty, wedge-shaped head with parallel planes and feminine strength to her muzzle. Her dark oval eyes give a soft, gentle expression. Her neck is of good length, flowing seamlessly into a firm, well-held topline. She shows depth and sufficient forechest, with a gentle underline rising to a short loin and wide quarters. She moves with a ground-covering action while maintaining her outline.

This 3-year-old black bitch shows a touch more maturity compared to the winner, though today she could not quite match the winner's reach and drive on the move. It was a close decision, as I liked her overall size, shape, and substance. She is a pretty bitch with a pleasing, well-balanced head, slight stop, well-placed ears, and dark, soulful eyes. Her body displays good development, with depth and well-sprung ribs. Her hindquarters show good width of thigh and a pleasing bend of stifle. She was presented in a good coat of crisp curls.

Her appealing, wedge-shaped head is well proportioned, complemented by dark oval eyes that give a soft and gentle expression. She has a clean neck of good length; her chest is well let down, with a nice spring to the ribcage and a visible forechest. Her hindquarters are strong, with good width of thigh and well let-down hocks. On the move, she shows good width and parallel action going away, while her side gait is fluid, covering the ground with graceful strides. Presented in a coat of tight, crisp curls. Another stunning black bitch, exuding quality and breed type. Exceptionally smart with lovely body lines to give a shapely outline. A bitch of unexaggerated symmetry, each part flowing into the next. If being hypercritical, I would like a fraction more leg, but she remains very balanced and unmistakably feminine. Most feminine of heads, wedge-shaped, with a good length to the foreface, slight stop, neat ears and dark oval eyes. Clean neck, which is slightly crested into well laid shoulders, visible forechest and depth to the brisket. A gentle underline to complement a firm level topline. I admired her strong hammy quarters, showing good width of thigh and a pleasing sweep of stifle. She has an excellent side gait showing reach and drive with a positive action fore and aft. Presented in a good coat and well handled RCC
