Judge: Jacqui Ward

It is always an honour to judge the Gundog group, and I thank the society for the invitation and the opportunity to Judge BIS and BPIS at this warm and friendly show. I would also like to thank the judges for sending forward good representatives of each breed. For further consideration, I shortlisted the Gordon Setter, Irish Setter, Red & White Setter, English Springer Spaniel, Welsh Springer Spaniel, Labrador, Weimaraner, American Cocker Spaniel and the Clumber Spaniel. After moving each of them again today it was the Labrador who took top spot with the Weimaraner reserve.

Sh Ch Berlan Get Up and Go at Sandylands, Breed: Retriever (Labrador) (Mr E & Mrs E Casey & Jayes)

Today this young dog pulled out all the stops to take top honours. He oozes quality and type, he is handsome, clean in outline, strong and muscular with good bone, but not overdone in any way. I loved his head, dark eye and soft expression, clean neck into correct shoulders placement, good ribs, strong topline. short strong loin and correct set on of otter tail. He has well muscled hindquarters with developed 2nd thigh which he uses to cover the ground on a true steady gait displaying plenty of reach and drive and keeping his topline at all times. Sh Ch Afterglow Sultana, Breed: Spaniel (American Cocker) (Mr J & Ms S Lynn & Crummey) Although this young lady has not yet reached her full potential, I could not deny her a place here. She has so much quality and breed type, with the most beautiful head with good breadth and depth of muzzle, sparkling eye with a melting expression, strong, slightly arched neck with chest still developing. Strong, well ribbed body, excellent topline both standing and on the move. She was presented in immaculate coat and condition. It’s on the move where she really excels with her ground covering movement holding her outline at all times.
