Richmond Championship Dog Show 13th September 2026

My thanks go to the Richmond committee for my invitation and the exhibitors who made the journey to the last show at Loseley Park. I was pleased to hear applause around the ring from those watching.

I was looking for exhibits who not only looked like a Beagle but with the right expression and correct movement to match. Some did not move so well particularly in front and would benefit from being moved slower. Please do keep nails short and teeth clean and your hounds will benefit.

1st Taylor’s Ch Deaconfield Kingcraft- BV A very honest dog with no exaggerations. As a veteran he has matured without becoming coarse. He has a soft expression, clean head and balanced construction fore and aft. He is well ribbed back and short in loin and moved out with drive both ways holding his topline on the move. He is carrying good muscle and was very pleased to see him go Veteran Group 3.

2nd Whitton’s Jalhar the Wonder of You at Haggatty- shown in fit condition and excellent coat. A stronger head than 1 and more lip. He has a reachy neck, well placed shoulder and holds his topline well in profile as he moves.

1st Hardisty’s Blunderhall Gunpowder Guy-BPD Smart tri dog who moved out with drive. Clean masculine head and straight front with excellent bone, short back and good length of ribcage. He is up to size but shown in fit condition with good width of thigh and muscle.

2nd Storey & Dyer’s Boskenna the Yellow Peril at Anxoowl- A real handful for the exhibiter today. He has a reachy neck leading down to good feet and well muscled. Ribbed well back and moved out when he settled. I would like a tighter eye.

1st Havard’s Annavah Top Notch- A super headed young dog of correct size who is compact and moderate in all ways. Good length of rib cage and short loin. He moved out parallel both ways and kept his profile well on the move. Considered in the challenge.

2nd Daniels’ Michelroy Earl Grey- A very well muscled exhibit who was shown in excellent coat and condition. Very good infill of chest and spring of ribs and profile movement shows super drive. Preferred the head of 1.

1st Hardisty’s Jackson JW- A balanced masculine head and dark eye. Well laid shoulders and good forechest. Short back and well let down hocks. Moved parallel both ways. The second from this kennel shown in excellent coat and condition.

2nd Porter’s Puddlehill Doctor Strange- Soft expression and dark eye. Shown in excellent muscled condition and had a great width of thigh. Would prefer tighter elbows and he was unsettled behind on the move today.

My comments say both these exhibits gave their handlers a hard time!

1st Ambridge’s Julemark Chaos- Very fidgety on the stack but the runner managed to settle him on the move. A kind head and expression and very good leathers. Straight front and parallel behind with very good width of quarters.

2nd McBain & Steven’s Mapelayne Serendipitous (AI) TAF- Shown lean fit with well muscled quarters. Pronounced fore-chest and deep ribcage. Moved out with enthusiasm but not quite the reach of 1

1st Kingsland’s Carvaha Artful Dodger From Redcap- Soft expression and masculine head. Good bone and well laid shoulder. He covers the ground very well in profile.

2nd Bell-Thomas & Thomas Amorpapaver Copernicus JW- A male of correct size, with good bone and a well laid shoulder. Another who moved out well particularly up and down. Close up to 1, just preferred the tail set of 1.

3rd Hooper’s Davricard Jacobean at Torbers

1st Taylor’s Rosanka O’Neal by Deaconfield-A soft head and expression, good pigment. He is moderate and compact, with correct bone and shape. A good spring of rib and well muscled quarters driving him around the ring. Gives his handler a hard time but a well deserved win here. My notes say the best mover in the class but would benefit losing a pound.

2nd Murphy’s Bayard Seal of Approval at Rhosyndu JW- A very well Presented hound with a soft expression, good neck and shoulder and moved out very well in profile. Well muscled quarters and close up to 1

3rd Webster’s Rossut Vizier for Houndscoast

1st Jayes’ Ch Rossut Zavier at Sandylands- DCC BOB As soon as he entered the ring he caught my eye. A real stallion hound who commanded the ring. A masculine head with low set leathers and dark eye with excellent pigment. An arched neck and well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm. Super bone and perfect muscling which drove him around the ring. He moved parallel both ways and held his topline in profile around the ring, accurate movement all ways. Delighted to see him shortlisted in the Hound Group

2nd Banks’ Forgebanks Santiano JW RDCC- One I have judged before and has matured very well into a well muscled beagle with a super outline. He has a muscular arched neck leading to a correctly laid shoulder, well off for bone and good spring of rib with short loin. He has excellent width of thigh and footfall perfect around the ring. Today not quite the sparkle of 1 today, perhaps affected by the heat.

What a lovely class of senior bitches.

1st Breeze’s Ch Dufosse Dragonfly of Parkebreeway JW- Stood out today for shape and condition being the fittest in the class. Soft feminine head and expression with correct pigment. A reachy arched neck, leading down to well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm. Good feet with short nails. She moved well around the ring and is a credit to her owners as a veteran. Close decision with veteran dog.

2nd Webster’s Michelroy Pimpernell with Houndscoast JW VW. A very balanced hound who could certainly do a days work. Soft expression, straight front and well laid shoulder. She is balanced in profile and well muscled. She moved around the ring with confidence and drive. Could lose a pound to advantage!

3rd McBain & Stevens’ Redcap Bella Sorella JW ShCM VW

1st Havard’s Annavah Eliza Doolittle. A very bonny head on this puppy. A long arched neck and straight front. Well ribbed back with good depth for age and well angulated behind. Moves out well in profile but unsettled today on the out and back.

1st Leader’s Davricard Artemis- A compact correctly sized puppy with a pretty head, dark eye, low soft graceful leathers and melting expression. Correctly made and balanced both ends, with good muscling and correct tail set. Moved with style around the ring and one of few with true parallel hind movement. A very promising youngster and pleased to give her BP

1st Havard’s Annavah Crème Caramel RBCC-A super head with melting expression and dark eye. A very pleasing outline with well laid shoulder and excellent topline with short back. Excellent hind quarters which she used to advantage to drive her around. Pushed the BCC winner but preferred her spring of rib.

2nd Taylor’s Deaconfield Melody-A soft feminine head and correct ear set. Good bone and feet and balanced outline. She moved out with drive on well let down hocks. Up to size but no hint of coarseness.

1st Arden’s Madika Shine on JW BCC BOS-a really honest tri bitch stood free showing off her merry temperament and excellent profile. A pretty feminine head with melting expression, low set leathers. Lovely arched neck and well laid shoulder, correct bone and down to tight feet. In profile her super spring of rib and excellent back end could be seen driving her around the ring, moving parallel to and fro. With my DCC winner they made a really super pair

1st Whitton’s Alibor Genesis of Haggatty-Balanced head with correct low set leathers. Excellent spring of rib and well muscled hind quarters. She moved out with drive in profile but could have a tighter topline. Shown in fit condition with a good coat.

PGB (4,1)

1st Bell-Thomas & Thomas’ Amorpapaver Ada Lovelace JW- Another honest bitch with a pleasing head and expression. Well made forehand and excellent well angulated quarters used to advantage on the move. She maintained a level topline and caught the eye as she moved. Considered in the challenge for RCC.

2nd Hunt’s Bondlea Cherish-Well laid shoulder and good quarters. Moved out well both ways. Longer cast than 1 and gave her handler a hard time on the stack.

1st Taylor’s Rosanka Harlow by Deaconfield-the best mover in this class today and shown in fit condition. Forehand well constructed with excellent bone and balanced angulation fore and aft. She has a good rib cage for length and depth and short loin.

2nd Breeze’s Dufosee Honestly of Parkebreeway- Feminine head and soft expression with an arch to the neck flowing into shoulders. Profile movement was very pleasing and she keeps her topline well on the go around. Stacked she has a smart outline. Longer cast than 1 and a little wider in front when coming towards.

3rd Poulter’s Rossut Freckles at Bethelite (AI)

OB (6,1)

1st Julemark Primrose with Mapelayne JW-today a clear winner in this class as some did not move as steadily. Correctly proportioned head with dark eye. Good length of neck and shoulder laid back. A longer cast bitch but her rib cage extends well back giving an eye catching profile on the move. She drove in all directions moving well out and back as well to win this hotly contested class.

2nd Banks’ Forgebanks Shantung JW-Soft head and kind eye. She is well angulated, balanced in profile and has driving super quarters which show in profile movement. Close up to 1 but moving a little close behind today.

3rd Fellow’s Ch Rosanka Deneuve
