First of all I would like to thank all the exhibitors that entered the show and supported me for my first championship show appointment for Giant Schnauzers. It’s only taken me 13 years to get here!
I have the breed standard and it’s multiple points of reference as my ‘type’. Exhibits bring different attributes to the show ring. Most important for me are the points covering structure, soundness, and movement.
The general observations from today were that without exception, all exhibits were well prepared and presented, some jackets were harsher and more wiry than others, but even the couple of clippered exhibits had good texture. They were all good natured and composed in the ring. There were quite a few level bites which surprised me as it’s not something I’ve particularly noticed before. (NB. I haven’t commented on every dogs bite in my critique). With regards to movement, it was a shame that a couple were unsound today, and there were others that weren’t as free moving with reach and drive as expected. A good proportion of them were adolescents and I look forward to seeing them grow and mature. The last observation I’d like to make, and please take it as constructive criticism! - I’m far far from an expert handler myself, but handlers - please be mindful when positioning your dogs front legs when stacking them. If the front legs aren’t vertical and under the dog, it doesn’t do them any favours in a line up.
Finally, thank you to the Giant Schnauzer Club committee for giving me this wonderful opportunity, and putting on a well run show.
Baby Puppy Dog (1)
1. REYNOLDS - Liebekarma Best of The Best. Nice baby, friendly dark eyes, decent harsh coat developing. The wagging tail had a nice set to it. Moved happily and confidently in the way puppies do.
Junior Dog (1 abs)
Postgraduate Dog (2)
1. RAWSTHORNE’s - Witcher Blade. An almost square 16 month boy. He had a nice head of good proportions with dark eyes. Decent forechest and depth for age, balanced in angulation front and back. Lovely harsh stripped jacket although a bit bald in patches. Once settled, he won out on movement with balance, reach and drive. Will improve with maturity.
2. URBANOWSKA’s- Snakesbury Gibbs. Square 3 year old male with a slightly sloping topline, a bit shorter in the loin than 1, which gave him a pleasing profile. Well presented with harsh coat. Nicely proportioned head with alert dark eyes and neat ears. Similar in other aspects to 1 but didn’t quite match him in movement on the day.
Limit Dog (1)
1. PARKER’s Draxpark Looks The Bizz. 14 month boy, very mature for age with plenty of bone. Almost square with a lovely topline in profile. Nicely proportioned head with dark expressive eyes and neat ears. Arched neck followed smoothly into laid back shoulders. Prominent breast bone and decent chest from all angles. Very balanced angulation front and back. Moved with vigour and drive but could be a little tidier and hopefully will settle with age. A well deserved RDCC
Special Open Pepper & Salt Dog (2)
1. WATMOUGH & ALLEN’s Minnienoom Jazz A Matazz at Andmaura. Solid 6 year old male giving a square profile with nice flowing topline. Well proportioned head with dark eyes and neat ears. Decent chest with depth, fill and spring of rib. Balanced angulation front and back. Well presented in a harsh banded jacket. Would have liked to see a little more vigour on the move as had a tendency to be a bit too casual. Best PS in Show
2. EVANS - Mountslemish Jery Cruncher. 2 year old male that appeared very immature when compared to 1, but very confident and bold in attitude. A little longer in the loin but with a nice flowing and slightly sloping topline. Well proportioned head with dark eyes and mask. Presented with an excellent harsh jacket. A little untidy on the move, but I’m sure he’ll improve with experience, age and maturity.
Open Dog (2)
1. PARKER’s - Draxpark Big Reveal. 2 year old male slightly long of square in profile, with a nice flowing topline. Good head planes, eyes dark with alert expression. Plenty of forechest with depth and breadth. Plenty of bone. Presented in lovely harsh wiry coat. Nicely balanced angulation front and back. I bit over enthusiastic on the move, but saw reach and drive when settled.
2. LOWOOD PRICE & PRICE,s - Adreana Jagermeister. A well conditioned 2.5 year old mature male giving a nice square profile with sloping topline. Lovely head of good length and breadth, dark eyes and neat ears. Correct bite. Arched neck was well set into shoulder. Balanced angulation front and rear. Well presented, jacket not quite as wiry as 1 and would have preferred a bit more vigour on the move.
A difficult choice between the two offering different qualities.
Champion Dog (2)
1. DESCERE, DESCERAS & PEARCE’s - Ch Stablemasters Twist (imp FIN). First impressions were of a mature imposing dog with a square profile. Arched neck was set well into shoulders and flowed cleanly into a slightly sloping top line. Well presented with a harsh coat although not wiry. Plenty of bone. Lovely head of good length, correct bite, dark alert eyes and neatly set ears. Nice return of upper arm and lay back of shoulder, with prominent forechest giving a pleasing front which was balanced by his turn of stifle and rear angulation. He held his top line on the move, which was free, with reach and drive from all angels, legs and feet all pointing forwards. Well handled. DCC, Best in Show.
2. Withdrawn
Baby Puppy Bitch (1)
1. RAWLINSON’s - Liebekarma Best Kept Secret. Was a little uncertain at first. Lovely head of good proportions. Neat ears and dark eyes. Developing a nice harsh jacket. Moved well with confidence once she’d settled with a handler. Best Baby Puppy in Show.
Minor Puppy Bitch (2, 1 abs)
1. VELHINO & DONLEY - Echodream Dreamer. Nice 7 month baby. Very composed for age. Quite leggy in profile at the moment. She has a lovely head of good length and proportions, alert expression and neat set ears. Harsh coat is coming along nicely. Decent angulation front and back. She was steady on the move with reach and drive and held her topline. I notice she is the offspring of my BiS and is very much in his style. Best Puppy in Show
Puppy Bitch (1 abs)
Junior Bitch (2)
1. VELHINO & DONLEY - Echodream Alice. 15 month girl giving a pleasing clean outline, lovely neck set cleanly into shoulders and flowing into smooth sloping topline. A little long of square. Pretty feminine head of good length and proportions. Harsh jacket developing nicely. Decent depth to chest for a youngster, with prominent breast bone beyond point of shoulder, and fill at the front. Was steady and balanced on the move from all sides.
2. FISH & FISH - Riesenheim Breathless to Dulejoes. Compared to one, this 14 month girl is still very much a raw puppy. Square in profile with balanced angulation but very leggy at present. She was well presented with a lovely feminine and well proportioned head, with dark eyes and neat ears. Lovely harsh coat. Moved steadily with balance, will surely improve with maturity.
Novice Bitch (1)
1. DUTTON’s - Adreana La Pasion. 2.5 year old well made girl. A little long of square, she gave a pleasing profile with strong neck set well into shoulder. Lovely head of good length with dark eyes. Was a little reserved when going over her, but she had decent angulation front and back, with forechest, depth and lay back of shoulder. Moved well and held her top line.
Postgraduate Bitch (3, 1abs)
1. SAUNDERS-JONES - Bernshell Balakovo. 4 year old girl giving a square profile. Pretty feminine head of good proportions, with dark eyes and friendly expression. Well presented with lovely harsh wiry jacket. Balanced angulation front and rear which carried her around the ring with reach and drive.
2. SQUIRE - Figosky’s Nutmeg. 19 months female, giving a square profile. Beautiful feminine head with good planes and correct bite. Some of the neatest ears of the day. Jacket had a harsh texture but will need stripping for future shows. Still has some maturing to do. Was balanced on the move from all angles.
Limit Bitch (3)
1. GEORGE & REEVES - Adreana Trubute to Dasval. Solid 2.5 year old girl. A little long of square in profile. Strong neck was set well into shoulder and flowing out to slightly sloping topline. Lovely feminine head of good length and decent head planes, dark alert eyes and neat ears. Well presented with harsh wiry jacket. Good return to upper arm and lay back of shoulder. Rear angles in tune with front for angulation. Was well balanced on the move. She would challenge for top honours with a little more conditioning. RBCC.

Lovely feminine head of good length with dark eyes and neat ears. Plenty of forechest and depth with good bone. Was balanced on the move but lost out on vigour and drive.

Lovely depth to chest, lay back of shoulder and forechest extending beyond point of shoulder. Pretty head of good proportions, with dark eyes and neat ears. Free, balanced and easy on the move. Handled to advantage.
2. COX & BOWMAN - Lux/Bel Ch. Zarina vom Schloss Ehrenburg to Grovelea (imp DEU). 4 year old black and silver female, a little long of square in profile. Good colour with correct markings. Champion Bitch (2)
1. FISH’s - Ch. Riesenheim Moon River. Lovely 3 year old girl with lots to like. She was almost square in profile, with a strong neck set well onto laid back shoulder and flowing into a slightly sloping topline. Head had lovely proportions, with alert dark eyes, correct bite and neat ears. Forechest extended beyond point of shoulder, chest had decent depth and spring of rib. She was well presented with a harsh wiry jacket. Lovely angulation front and rear meant she moved well with enough reach and drive. BCC and Reserve Best in Show.
2. PARKER’s - Ch. Draxpark Crown Jewel. Another lovely 3 year old. Very similar in style to one. Lovely topline with neck flowing well in to shoulder and topline. Well presented with a harsh wiry coat. Pretty feminine head with dark eyes. Prominent breast bone that extended beyond point of shoulder. Decent return of upper arm and lay back of shoulder giving pleasing angles that were matched at the rear. Very unsettled on the move.
Veteran Bitch (1)
1. SAUNDERS-JONES - Eskaidee Play With Fire at Bernshell. Belying her 8 years, this girl presented a nice profile with strong neck set well on to shoulder and flowing into slightly sloping topline. Well presented in a harsh jacket. Chest had a decent front with fill and depth to elbow. Maybe a little upright in return of upper arm but was balanced and moved well with reach and drive.
