It’s an honour for me to be given an appointment and I’m grateful to every exhibitor who goes to the trouble and expense of giving me the opportunity to judge their dog. An increase in the variation of type was what struck me for this appointment and the challenge facing the judge when needing to identify and assess the qualities that create breed type. I checked all mouths but don’t always mention them below because I found no problems, nor did I find any exhibits showing any respiratory constraint. I focus more on the tail set than the presence or otherwise of one, although I can see how this will become more important as we move forward. Most of the dogs’ movement was compromised in such a noisy distracting hall. Hat’s-off to that small number of dogs who were able to block it out and focus on their handler. I was delighted with my winners and proud to highlight such excellent examples of our breed.

Class 867. Minor Puppy Dog (1/0)
1st 1357 Bosties Urban Outlaw (Ms C Grange) Black brindle baby with a super square head; dark, well-placed eyes and lovely dark pigment throughout head; good width and depth of muzzle; reluctant to use his ears to best affect; straight front with correct proportions in body and a pleasing outline when moving with good rear angulation; correct tailset; topline settled when he moved but in such a noisy hall his movement was disrupted and erratic today.
Class 868. Puppy Dog (0/0)
Class 869. Junior Dog (3/0)
1st 1380 Demorace Atmospheric (Mrs D Rodaway) Smart brindle medium-sized, well-marked dog with excellent balance throughout. Lovely square filled head with correct forehead to muzzle width and depth, dark eye, nose and lip. Well-placed ears of correct size, giving him an excellent expression. Strong but elegant neck of correct length leading into well-placed shoulders, and pleasing forechest, straight front and tight feet. Correct topline and tailset creating a lovely effortless movement and one of the strongest on the day albeit again, I suspect the noise outside in the hall was distracting him from giving his best performance. Only beaten today by two excellent and more mature male specimens. 2nd 1374 Burlesk Varlove Billy Whizz Bang NAF (Mr G & Miss N Mccallum & Laing) medium-sized black, well-balanced dog with pleasing depth to foreface. Nice square head but would have preferred a slightly deeper muzzle and the finish of full pigmentation to his nose and lip to create a stronger expression. Good ear shape and size; correct mouth and good reach of neck with a clean smart outline into the correct level topline and tailset. Straight front and tidy feet; correct rear angulation so no surprise he moved well both ways and to be commended for achieving this in such noisy surroundings. 3rd 1387 Dam Prestige Sky over Shawmut (Imp Srb) (Mr R & Mrs K Sandells)
Class 870. Post Graduate Dog (3/1)
1st 1363 - Vickvally The Big Dill at Honeydukes (C & S Harrison & Stoner) Small, compact, typey black brindle with super head and expression and lovely large dark round eye with small well-set ears; darkly pigmented large open nose, correct foreface which gave him the correct balance to head and muzzle, producing a wonderful expression. Correct shoulder and rear angulation, level topline and correct tailset. An unexaggerated and well-balanced outline. Nice straight front movement. 2nd 1351 - Glenauld Manhatten via Borestone (Miss R & Mrs F & Mr D Connell & Neilson & Neilson) Medium black brindle, slightly longer in loin than my class winner. Strong square head with adequate proportions but would have preferred a larger eye to improve his expression. Good lay of shoulder, straight front and strong forechest. Level topline, good tail and set-on, pleasing rear movement.
Class 871. Limit Dog (5/1)
1st 1392 - Valbrown’s Not for Sale for Rintintina JW (Imp Hun) (Mrs M. Svitanova) Eye-catching well-marked chestnut brindle with a lovely balanced outline and head piece which was finished by dark pigmentation that helped accentuate his round eyes, nose and lips. Lovely shape and sized ears which he held bang on top to give him a great expression. Good length of neck and shoulders with a strong forechest, correct angulation to shoulders and rear, level topline. Moved with ease both ways albeit without much urgency. 2nd 1370 - Ever Single Verlaine The Poet at Glenauld (Misses L & S Mair) Another balanced, compact well-marked chestnut brindle with strong square head finished with tiny ears. Not quite the strength of muzzle or size of eye that the class winner had. Strong neck and shoulders and straight front, good feet, level topline and correct tailset with nicely muscled rear. Movement was strong, straight and determined but to be super fussy (for such a close class) would have preferred slightly more spring to his step. 3rd 1384 - Hilltops Skepta Boy Knows (Imp Usa) (Miss Z Sabri)
Class 872. Open Dog (6/0)
1st 1368 - Ch Chelmbull Return of The Mac at Nerros (Mr P & Mrs N & Miss M Keenan) beautifully presented, smartly marked, medium-sized black brindle with immediate impact of a square and balanced dog with no exaggerations throughout his frame. A mature strong square clean skull with a lovely deep stop and square muzzle free from wrinkles, large open nose, dark eyes and well-placed ears producing a great expression. Strong clean neck into well-laid shoulders, straight front and the best of feet. Level topline which rounded into the correct tailset. Good rear angulation. Moved straight and with a lovely balanced gait. DCC 2nd 1377 - Multi Ch Primo Cavaliere Goffredo at Havance (Imp Ita) Multi Jch (Mrs S & Mr P & Ms L Quick & Quick & Carta) How spoilt was I to have a difficult decision to judge. Another first-class medium-sized black brindle with a lovely outline. Strong head, large open nose, dark eyes and lips. Strong neck with a rare and attractive forechest holding well-laid shoulders, straight front and good rear angulation which produced one of the best movers in the show. Level topline and correct tailset. Splitting hairs with my winner but the slightly greater length of muzzle gave a cleaner expression. RCC 3rd 1373 - Burlesk Tiger King (Mr G Mccallum)
Class 873. Veteran Dog (1/0)
1st 1352 - Ruciona Mor'du The Brave at Halloxwishes (Mrs Y & Mr L & Mr C Cox) a slightly heavier-type brindle with correct body proportions and head size but his muzzle was a little too large compared to his skull and his pendulous lips detracted from the desirable expression. Good dark pigmentation and large open nose. Nice size and placement of ears although not used to full-affect today. Good angulation front and back and level topline with correct angulation of croup and tailset. Moved well both ways.
Class 874. Special Beginners Dog (1/0)
1st 1352 - Ruciona Mor'du The Brave at Halloxwishes (Mrs Y & Mr L & Mr C Cox) see class 873
Class 875. Good Citizen Dog Scheme Dog (0/0)
Class 876. Minor Puppy Bitch (4/1)
1st 1366 - Aprika Hollywood Dream (Mr D M James) a confident black brindle with an eye-catching squarely balance profile. Lovely dark pigment in all the right places, large well-positioned round dark eye, large open nose, tidy well-set ears, correct depth to foreface with balanced depth and width to muzzle producing a super feminine head and expression. Correct length of neck leading into superb shoulder placement and desirable forechest, straight front and level topline with the correct low set tail. Good rear with hocks well let down, moved well both ways. Beautifully presented and well-handled. 2nd 1386 - Lorddones Shining Star (Miss D Sambrook) Another quality seal brindle puppy with a lovely head and expression, strong head, dark eyes, nose and lips, well placed ears, good neck and great shoulder placement showing off a lovely forechest and straight front, a little longer in loin than my winner and a reluctant mover in the hall today. 3rd 1358 - Bosties Urban Whispers (Ms C Grange)
Class 877. Puppy Bitch (3/0)
1st 1355 - Vickvally Ruby Aura (Miss P Gallagher) feminine dark mahogony brindle, well balanced square head with well set ears, dark eye and pigmentation throughout her lovely dark trimmings, straight front, good forechest and good rib, tail present, moved straight in front and a little close behind. 2nd 1376 - Olleyville The Enchanted (Mr D & Mr S Parker & Martin) well-marked black/white with a lovely balanced outline. Feminine head and expression with correct skull to muzzle proportions, pleasing dark eyes and open nose, good ear set, giving her a superior head and expression, however she refused to show herself off to her best today despite being masterfully handled she fell victim to the noisy hall and remained very reluctant and distracted. Straight front, good forechest, nice rounding over croup to good tailset, good angulation moved a little wide in front and adequately in the rear. I think the school card would read “could have done better” and with better conditions, I’m very sure she will. 3rd 1388 - Dolce Vita Selection Dragon Tail with Shawmut (Imp Ita) (Mr R & Mrs K Sandells)
Class 878. Junior Bitch (4/2)
1st 1381 - Demorace Born Free (Mrs D Rodaway) an eye-catching stylish medium shade brindle with a gorgeous outline which she held superbly on the move. Attractive head carriage into well-laid shoulders and level topline, straight front, neat feet, strong but feminine head with perfect balance between skull and muzzle, darkly pigmented with a good sized round eyes giving her a wonderful expression, super tidy ears held bang on top, moved with long straight graceful strides coming, going and in profile, beautifully presented and expertly handled, delighted to award her the BCC & BoB 2nd 1393 - Geeseco Devil in Disguise (Ms G Turner) A well-balanced black brindle with a lovely outline, not the strength of head or muzzle of my winner but a nice feminine head with an elegant clean neck and good shoulders, deep chest with a graceful sweep into the waist and level topline with nicely angled croup and tailset, straight front, tidy feet, moved a little erratically today as did many exhibits.
Class 879. Post Graduate Bitch (2/2)
Class 880. Limit Bitch (4/1)
1st 1372 - Aprika Graceland JW (Miss S Masters) medium-sized brindle who can sometimes stand rather apologetically, but once the handler got her attention, she presented a lovely profile with a level topline and good tailset. The squarest of feminine heads with excellent pigment to her lovely dark eyes, nose and lips giving her a first-class expression. Straight front with lovely forechest and good angulation front and back. Deep well-sprung and filled chest. Tidy feet. Moved economically. 2nd 1378 - Wildax She’s A Showgirl (Miss E & Mr G Rankin & Hickin) medium black-brindle, feminine head with a good depth of foreface but would have preferred a stronger muzzle and darker eye to complete the picture, clean balanced outline and level topline with straight front and good rear angulation, moved well both ways. 3rd 1383 - Jayneze Miss Winniepeg among Clovipop (Mrs C.E Rowell)
Class 881. Open Bitch (7/2)
1st 1390 - Ch Vickvally Miss Chicago Soul JW (Mrs V Schfaild) a beautiful square mahogony brindle bitch with lovely balance and proportions to her outline, her head is strong with beautiful dark features and square with the correct balance between head and muzzle but splitting hairs between my top winning bitches today she had a little more layback in muzzle than is my preference, although I’d still take her home in a heartbeat. Short-coupled, deep chest, straight front, tidy feet, good rear angulation and she moved freely with purpose and grace. RBCC 2nd 1369 - Ch Antrix Sukey Tawdry (Mrs A Kennedy) A larger seal brindle with excellent conformation and movement. An unexaggerated head with dark round eye, nose and lips producing a clean head on a strong feminine neck and attractive carriage and excellent front and shoulder placement, level topline, correct tailset and correct rear angulation. Not surprising that her excellent conformation produced strong straight movement both coming and going. 3rd 1391 - Ch Aprika Fargo at Rudino JW (Mr D & Mrs P Scott)
