Boston & District Canine Society

Breed: Chihuahua (Smooth Coat)

My thanks to the Committee of Boston & District Canine Society for the invitation to judge Chihuahua Smooth Coats and to all the exhibitors who brought their dogs under me. I thoroughly enjoyed my day and was particularly pleased with the lovely atmosphere around the ring and the sporting way in which my decisions were received. A big thank you must go to my two excellent stewards, Grant Hughes and Wayne Patterson. They worked well together, kept everything running smoothly and kept me smiling throughout the day. Thank you both.

Chihuahua (Smooth Coat)

Minor Puppy Dog (7,2)

1st BURROWS, Mrs A – Anadeia Ehlark at Lauloura

8 months old masculine youngster with a pleasing overall shape. Well-rounded apple-domed skull with large, flaring ears and typical expression. Would prefer a little more strength of underjaw. Slightly longer cast than my ideal but balanced overall with good tail set and carriage. His movement was his strength today, moving positively and accurately and covering the ground well. Well handled.

2nd STANBURY, Mrs S – Yorone Too Timer via Inixia

8 months old of pleasing shape, although slightly longer cast. I particularly liked his muzzle, which was of good length and shape. Ears a little upright when fully alert but settled into a better position when relaxed. Good body shape and correct sickle tail. Once he settled he moved positively, he was certainly enjoying himself and giving his handler a hard time today.

Puppy Dog (2,0)

1st HOLMES & PLATEK, Mrs C & Mrs J – Laptek Cool Hand Luke

10 months old a very well-balanced youngster. Attractive apple-domed head with large, well-placed flaring ears and a typical saucy expression. Would prefer a little more strength of underjaw. Pleasing outline with good tail set and carriage. Moved soundly and positively coming and going, maintaining correct head and tail carriage throughout. A very promising youngster. Beautifully handled. RDCC & BP

2nd BURROWS, Mrs A – Anadeia Annael

11 months old with a pleasing apple-domed head and nice overall shape. Ears not quite as flaring as the winner and I preferred the muzzle and expression of first. Well-proportioned body with good angulation and correct tail set. Moved soundly. Two nice young dogs but the stronger breed type and saucy expression of the winner decided the placings today.

Junior Dog (5,0)

1st HUNTLEY, Mrs E – Am Ch Knockout Chuck A Duck for Jahneemahs (Imp USA)

14 months old dog with a pleasing outline and overall balance. Attractive head and typical expression, although I would prefer a fraction more length to the muzzle. Ears could be a little more flaring but he held his shape well and won the class on his more positive and accurate movement. Well presented and handled.

2nd PLATEK & HOLMES, Mrs J & Mrs C – Laptek Whole Nine Yards at Cazants

10 months old a very attractive young dog with a lovely head and expression, which I preferred to that of the winner. Excellent shape with much to admire. Unfortunately today his movement let him down, particularly in front where he was rather high stepping. A quality youngster who could easily reverse these placings on another day.

Yearling Dog (4,0)

1st NEATH-COYNE & COYNE, Mrs S A & Mr S – Jorazan Sox It Toem with Buffrey JW

Twenty one months old very pleasing young dog with an attractive outline and excellent ear placement. I particularly liked his muzzle length, giving balance to the head and contributing to his typical expression. Slightly longer cast than my ideal but nicely proportioned with good tail set and carriage. Moved confidently and positively. Would prefer slightly firmer pasterns as he can stand a little ten-to-two at times but overall a quality dog with plenty of breed type. Well handled.

2nd HICKS, Miss E – Legado De Lagos Oh Dios Mio at Casiatodo (Imp Esp)

Twenty months old compact dog of lovely overall shape. Pleasing apple-domed skull and good ears. Solid and compact through the body. Muzzle a little too short and I preferred the head proportions of the winner. Nevertheless, a quality dog with much to like and two very different but pleasing exhibits to choose between.

Post Graduate Dog (2,0)

1st WALTON, Miss G – Perimeade’s Midnight Dream

Twenty months old compact, balanced dog of pleasing proportions. Attractive head with good ear placement and a typical saucy expression. Pleasing topline with correct tail set and carriage. Moved positively around the ring. Would prefer slightly firmer front pasterns as he can stand a little ten-to-two but overall a pleasing, typey Chihuahua. Well handled and presented.

2nd KNIGHT, Mrs K – Okeanid Ambre Solaire at Aritito

Three years old, slightly larger mould than the winner but compact in body with a pleasing outline and correct tail set. Attractive apple-domed head, although I would prefer a little more length and refinement to the muzzle. Ears carried rather upright when alert. Would also prefer firmer pasterns. Moved reasonably well in profile but was a little untidy coming towards today. Well handled.

Limit Dog (5,0)

1st MAGRI, Mr J – Monicachi Money Man at Rozamie

Twenty months old dog of very pleasing overall shape and balance. I particularly liked his head with well-set ears, a typical saucy expression and pleasing length of muzzle. Compact in outline and really came into his own on the move, where he excelled in profile. Front could be a little tighter but his overall type, shape and positive profile movement won him the class. Very well presented and handled.

2nd BURROWS, Mrs A – Anadeia Eowyn at Lauloura JW

Amost three years old, another dog of pleasing shape with much to like. Good head with sufficient strength and a pleasing overall outline. Moved soundly, but today he did not have quite the same positivity and freedom in profile as the winner. Well handled.

Open Dog (6,0)

1st TAYLOR, Ms L – Ch Arkoschi Don't Stop Me Now JW

Twenty months old, very typey dog with lovely overall shape, compact and solid without losing his breed character. Pleasing apple-domed head with well-placed ears and eyes giving a typical expression. Good topline, correct tail set and balanced angulation. Particularly impressed in profile movement, where he moved positively while maintaining a firm, level topline. Beautifully presented and very well handled. DCC & BOB

2nd HUNTLEY, Mrs E – Jahneemahs Looney Tune

Seventeen months old, another lovely dog who made this a very close decision. I particularly liked his expression and character with an attractive head and excellent attentiveness to his handler. Ears a little more upright than my ideal. Pleasing compact shape, good topline and correct sickle tail. Moved very well and maintained his outline in profile. Two quality dogs.

Veteran Dog (1,0)

1st HOBBS, Mr J R – Ch Aristodemos Spaceman Nikitos

Seven and a half years old dog who certainly does not look or move his age. Pleasing overall shape with a well-proportioned head and nicely pointed muzzle. Eyes a little more prominent than I would prefer. Maintains a good topline with correct sickle tail. Moved particularly well, showing enthusiasm and positivity throughout. Presented in excellent condition and a credit to his owner. BV

Special Beginners Dog (2,1)

1st FELLONE, Miss E – Frapachi Once Upon A Dream at Emarachis (IKC)

Eighteen months old who placed Reserve in Limit Dog earlier in the day. Apple domed head with good stop. Unfortunately, by the time he returned to the ring he appeared to have had enough for the day and was giving his handler a hard time, making it difficult to see him at his best. Sympathetically handled. BSB

1st FELLONE, Miss E – Frapachi Once Upon A Dream at Emarachis (IKC)

As Above.

Minor Puppy Bitch (2,0)

1st SLAVINEC, Mrs S H – Charonchi Forever You and Me

Seven months old, still very much a baby but with lots to like about her. Feminine apple-domed head with well-placed ears and a pleasing muzzle. Needs time to strengthen through her pasterns and topline, as would be expected at this age. Tail carriage could be more consistent standing although she carried it correctly on the move. I particularly liked her bright, interested temperament and she moved out positively.

2nd HUNTLEY, Mrs E – Jahneemahs Kiss for Keeps

Six months old with much to like. Lovely apple-domed head and well-placed ears. Rather reluctant to make the best of herself today and did not consistently carry her tail on the move, which decided the placings. When she did settle and use herself she showed a very pleasing shape and moved nicely. Hopefully confidence will come with maturity and experience.

Puppy Bitch (1,0)

1st MURRAY, Mrs F A – Copymear Such A Charm at Davixity

Nine months old bitch, slightly larger mould, full of character and certainly enjoying her day. Attractive head with flaring ears, good muzzle and pleasing eyes. Slightly longer cast than my ideal and can lose her topline at times. Correct tail set. Moved reasonably in profile but a little untidy coming towards. Still very much a baby and giving her handler plenty to do but an appealing youngster with a lovely temperament.

Junior Bitch (5,0)

1st CORBETT, Miss M – Starceylon Empress by Mandistarz JW

Fourteen months old feminine bitch of pleasing size and shape with delightful temperament and character. Lovely apple-domed head, pleasing muzzle and good front. Ears can appear a little upright when fully alert but settle into a better position. Correct topline and tail set. Particularly impressed in profile where she moved out positively while maintaining her outline. Could strengthen slightly through the pasterns but a lovely young bitch with much to admire. Well presented.

2nd HICKS, Miss E – Legado De Lagos Microsoft at Casiatodo (Imp Esp)

Fifteen months old, another lovely bitch with excellent character and a pleasing overall outline. Attractive head, although I would prefer a little more length and point to the muzzle. Good tail set. Moved well but occasionally lost her topline when moving on a loose lead, which ultimately decided the placings between two quality bitches. Well handled.

Yearling Bitch (2,0)

1st HICKS, Miss E – Legado De Lagos La Fama at Casiatodo (Imp Esp)

Twenty one months old feminine bitch of pleasing overall shape with an attractive head and well-placed ears. Good muzzle and typical expression, although I would prefer the ears to flare a little more as they appear rather upright when alert. Correct sickle tail. Moves well coming and going, although she loses her topline a little in profile movement. Well handled.

2nd MURRAY, Mrs F A – Davixity The Evangelist

Thirteen months old, stronger and heavier bitch than the winner and also slightly longer cast. Attractive head, although the muzzle is a little shorter than I would like. Lovely temperament and character. Moved rather wide going away today and I preferred the overall balance and proportions of the winner. Well handled and presented.

Post Graduate Bitch (2,0)

1st BARKER, Mrs S T – Baralicia Mini Maestro

Twenty months old bitch of pleasing overall shape, although slightly longer cast. Attractive head with good eye placement and a pleasing muzzle, although I would prefer just a fraction more length. Preferred her firmer topline to that of second. Moved well coming and going and showed pleasing profile movement. Well presented and handled.

2nd KNIGHT & MOGGRIDGE, Mrs S & Mrs V C – Twiglet Tiny Dancer

Three years old bitch with a lovely expression. Muzzle a little shorter than my ideal and ears can appear rather high set, particularly when fully alert. Pleasing profile movement, but she does not always maintain a level topline on the move, showing a slight rise which affected the overall picture today. Well handled.

Limit Bitch (6,0)

1st FOTHERGILL, Mrs D – Diamonchi La Dolcie Vita

Two years old compact, solid bitch with a lovely character and temperament. Attractive apple-domed head with nicely flaring ears and a reasonably well-pointed muzzle. Straight in front with a pleasing topline and correct high-set sickle tail. Very attentive to her handler. Moved well in profile, although a little untidy going away. Well handled and presented. RBCC

2nd STADING, Mrs L – Stadmeyer Jesslyn JW

Three years old bitch who appealed greatly. Attractive apple-domed head, although her muzzle is a little shorter than that of the winner. Unfortunately she was reluctant to use her ears today and seemed determined to give her handler a hard time, which affected her overall expression. Pleasing shape with good topline and tail set. Moved particularly well in profile, maintaining her topline throughout. Well presented.

Open Bitch (8,0)

1st HORNBY, Mr K & Mrs S – Ch Bramerita Posh Totty

Five and a half years old very typical bitch presenting a compact, balanced outline. Her character and temperament appealed greatly. Feminine apple-domed head with pleasing ear set and expression. Would prefer a little more strength through the front pasterns and a fraction more length of muzzle. Correct topline and tail set with balanced angulation. Very positive on the move, maintaining a firm, level topline throughout. A lovely typey bitch with much to admire. Beautifully handled and presented. BCC

2nd GINGER, Ms J – Jodeschi Glamour Puss JW

Twenty one months old feminine, typey bitch with a beautiful temperament and character. Attractive head with a correct muzzle and expression. Large flaring ears, although perhaps set a touch lower than my ideal. Very attentive to her owner and presented a pleasing overall picture. Particularly good in profile, moving positively and with purpose. A close decision between two lovely bitches.

Special Beginners Bitch (1,0)

1st KNIGHT, Mrs K – Okeanid Donna Karan at Aritito

Twenty one months old bitch of pleasing overall shape. Lovely apple-domed head with nicely flaring ears, good open nostrils and plenty of breed character. Front could be a little wider and she carries her tail rather tightly over her back. Slightly more angulated behind than my ideal. Moved very well in profile, maintaining her topline and showing a lovely temperament and character throughout.
