Midland Counties Canine Society

Thanks to the Committee for the invitation to judge at this year’s show. My thanks to all exhibitors for presenting their dogs and accepting my decisions so graciously. The friendly and sporting atmosphere, both in and around the ring, was a credit to everyone involved and made the appointment particularly enjoyable. My grateful thanks also to my ring stewards, Jodie and Steve, whose efficiency and good humour ensured everything ran smoothly.

1st 3439 Caradoc's Shuffle The Deck at Amaqqut (Imp USA) (Mrs J Sheehan & Ms B Williams) Icelandic Sheepdog

Ten month old male presenting an appealing, well-proportioned rectangular outline. Very alert and interested in everything going on around him, making good use of his well-placed erect ears. Muzzle could be a touch shorter in relation to skull but he has a lovely typical expression. Good depth of chest for his age. Correct double dewclaws on the hind legs. Particularly liked his movement in profile, where he really came into his own once settled, showing an easy, ground-covering gait. A super youngster with so much to like, full of breed character and promise. Beautifully presented and very well handled. BP

2nd 3430 Starrytails River Nettle (Miss Issy Eley & Mrs Pat Edwards-Brown) Miniature American Shepherd

Twelve month old presenting a pleasing shape and balanced outline with a lovely neck flowing into a firm topline and well-set tail. Particularly liked his attentiveness to his handler, so typical of this intelligent and responsive breed. Good overall proportions. Somewhat untidy coming towards and needs time to settle and tighten up. Beautifully presented.

Eighteen month old, alert male with a pleasing, well-proportioned outline and the typical rugged appearance of the breed. Well-placed ears contributing to the lovely characteristic expression. Good front construction although still chest still needs to develop. Pleasing topline and correct coat for his age. Moves well when settled. Still some maturing to do but plenty to like.

Twenty-two-month-old, well-proportioned male presenting a balanced outline. Particularly liked his masculine head with excellent balance between skull and muzzle, well-placed ears and good pigmentation. Correct bite. Good front construction although just needs to tighten a little coming towards. Particularly impressed with his profile movement, showing an easy, free flowing, ground covering stride. Still a young dog who needs time to mature and tighten up but much to like. RBD

Three year old masculine male presenting a pleasing, breed-typical outline. Strong masculine head with well set ears, muzzle that could be a touch longer in proportion to skull. Lovely pigmentation, good depth of chest, pleasing topline and well-placed tail. Correct coat. Tends to move close going away and would prefer slightly stronger hocks. Well presented and handled.

Seven and a half year old breed-typical male presenting a very pleasing, well-proportioned outline. Masculine head with well-placed, high set ears. Muzzle could be a touch longer but lovely expression and good pigmentation. Good depth of chest, pleasing topline and particularly liked his overall proportions. Moves true coming towards but it was his easy, effortless profile gait that particularly appealed. Covered the ground with an economical stride and gave the impression he could keep going all day. Correct coat for his age. BD & BV

Nicely proportioned head with a typical, alert and attentive expression, although her ears are a little heavy. Correct coat for her age. Somewhat untidy on the move, particularly coming towards and needs time to tighten up both coming and going. Very well handled.

Seven months old and still very much a baby but with lots to like. Lovely feminine outline with a well-proportioned head, typical expression, well-placed ears and excellent pigmentation. Particularly liked her attentiveness to her handler. Good overall balance, although would benefit from a little more depth of chest and stronger pasterns as she develops. Correct coat for her age. Moves well in profile, maintaining her outline throughout. Just needs time to mature and gain a little more confidence in the ring. A really appealing youngster who impressed with plenty of breed quality and promise for the future. RBB

Twenty two month old feminine bitch presenting a lovely, well-balanced outline with good overall proportions and the elegance so characteristic of the breed. Particularly liked her feminine head with good proportions, excellent pigmentation and an appealing alert expression. Correct coat for her age. Really comes into her own on the move, where she settles into an easy, rhythmical stride, covering the ground effortlessly with good reach and drive in profile. A very breed-typical bitch with much to like, particularly her movement. Very well presented and handled. BB & BOB

2nd 3431 Whitehemi's Chimaera (Mr C & Mrs D Henshaw) White Swiss Shepherd Dog

Twenty two months old, pleasing feminine outline with good proportions. Some loss of pigmentation on the nose and would like to see a little more depth of chest. Giving her handler a hard time today and unsettled on the move today, making it difficult to fully assess her movement but presents a pleasing outline when standing. Just needs to settle and show herself to best advantage.

Six years old, well-proportioned feminine bitch presenting a pleasing, balanced outline. Feminine head with good chiselling and lovely dark pigmentation, although muzzle could perhaps be a touch longer in relation to skull. Good depth of chest and strength through the body without losing femininity. Particularly liked her movement in profile, showing an easy, ground-covering stride. Well presented and handled.

2nd 3432 Var Des Monts Lokiralgris at Puidelup Ja (Mrs J Huntley) Icelandic Sheepdog

Two years old, well-proportioned bitch presenting a pleasing, typical spitz outline. Alert and interested in everything going on around her making good use of her prick ears, which contribute to her lovely characteristic expression. Good bone, thick coat and a tightly curled tail carried over the back. Ground covering profile gait. Well handled.

Nine year old bitch in excellent condition for her age, looking and acting like a much younger dog. Lovely shape and balanced outline with a pleasing feminine head, although would prefer a slightly less rounded eye. Good depth of chest and particularly liked her balanced angulation. Wearing her summer coat but this did not detract from her overall appearance. Moves really well when settled, showing an easy, balanced gait. A credit to her owners for her condition and enthusiasm at nine years of age.
