Midland Chihuahua Club

Breed: Chihuahua (Long Coat)

I thoroughly enjoyed my day judging the long coats and would like to thank the committee for the invitation. My two stewards, Melanie and Holly kept the ring running smoothly and I was grateful for all their help. Finally thanks to the exhibitors for bringing their dogs for me to go over. When assessing the dogs, the first things I look for are balance and outline, and I was concerned to see that several exhibits had incorrect tail carriage. The standard calls for a sickle tail, high set and carried over the back, yet a number of dogs were more reminiscent of a Pomeranian, with the tail lying flat along the back. Not only is this incorrect, but it also detracts from the dog’s overall outline. I also noticed that several dogs were short in neck, which again affects the outline. Few sights are more pleasing than a dog moving briskly around the ring with its head held proudly, displaying a clean neck, a level topline, and a correctly carried sickle tail. On the positive side, mouths were generally much improved compared with the last time I judged and sportsmanship was very much in evidence.

MPD (8,2a) 1. Todd-McCoid’s Rubyanlo Mr Majestic. At almost nine months old, this mature puppy stood out in the class. He has an apple domed skull, large flaring ears, dark round eyes with good pigment, a scissor bite, and the typical saucy expression. I really enjoyed watching him move briskly around the ring, showing reach in front, drive from the rear, and correct tail carriage. He should have a bright future. BPD & RBPIB 2. Burrows’ Anadeia Finarfin at Lauloura. An eight month old cream dog with dark eyes and good pigment. He has correctly placed ears, which he uses well, and a slightly pointed muzzle. He shows a good turn of stifle, and he moved well. 3. Schmid & Light’s Chantibbar Clyde

PD (3.1a) 1.Sangster’s Kirlasidh Speed Bonnie Boat. Just turned nine months old, this fawn sable dog has a coat of the correct soft texture, which is coming in nicely. He has dark eyes, a correct bite, and he moved well, showing a great tailset and carriage. RBPD 2. Wragge’s Happy King. A ten month old red and white puppy with large flaring ears and an apple domed skull.
