Humberside Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club

Breed: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Many thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge at this double show. I thoroughly enjoyed my day and had some lovely bitches to assess; my appreciation goes to the exhibitors for bringing them. My thanks also go to my stewards, Philip and Sue, whose efficiency kept the ring running smoothly. I was seeking a Cavalier who was both well constructed and true to the breed standard, particularly in relation to head properties. The standard calls for a skull almost flat between the ears, a shallow stop, and a length from base of stop to tip of nose of approximately 3.8 cm (1.5 inches), and this was reflected in my placings. Overall, I found the Cavalier bitches to be happy, healthy exhibits, though I did encounter a number of dirty ears and a couple of poor mouths.

Veteran B (2,1a) 1. Colavecchia’s Carolus Miss Elsie A beautiful, well marked eight year old blenheim presented in excellent condition. She had an almost flat skull, high set ears with long leathers, dark eyes and pigment, and a gentle, feminine expression. She moved soundly, displaying her good reach of neck, well placed shoulders and level topline. Her owner should be very proud of her and I was pleased to pull her out into the last four in the challenge. BVB & BVIB

Vintage B (2.0) 1. Colavecchia’s Carolus Miss Liberty VW. Another lovely oldie from this exhibitor, this time a twelve year old who is still moving soundly and with style; she has a pretty head with the typical gentle expression that defines the breed; a credit to her owner. 2. Fox’s Lewharle Izzadorable for Lynmily VW. A heavier marked Blenheim, also twelve years old, though showing her age a little more than the first; a lovely girl who lost out to the winner on movement.

MPB (11,1a) 1. Inglis’ Verheyen Coral at Craigowl I liked the make and shape of this ruby puppy, just seven months old. She still carries some puppy fluff which gives her a paler appearance, but her true ruby colour is beginning to come through. She has an appealing head with dark eyes and good pigment. She excels in profile, with a good reach of neck, well laid shoulders and a level topline which she maintained on the move. BPB 2. Bacon’s Timbric Paloma Faith. Attractively marked blenheim with rich chestnut markings. More mature than the first, being almost nine months old, and she hasgood bone and substance. Long ear leathers frame a pretty head, and she moved with drive. 3. Richardson’s Kringleholme Mystere

PB (4,0a) 1. Lovel’s Lovetrac Born to Perform. Small and compact this eleven month old blenheim was well balanced with almost flat skull, dark eyes and pigment and a gentle expression. She had good reach of neck and well laid shoulders and was of a happy temperament. 2. Richardson’s Kringleholme Mystere Just seven months old this well broken blenheim was in a larger frame than the first but was still well balanced. She has a classic head with lovely dark eyes and good pigment. On the move she has a tendency to drop her head, which makes her appear longer in body than she is, she moved soundly throughout. 3. Brewer’s Bowfort Miss Peachy

JB (2,0) 1. Hogan’s Arrowbien Grace Kelly of Stavonga Well broken blenheim in good coat. She has an almost flat skull, large dark round eyes with strong pigment, long ear leathers, a shallow stop and the correct length of muzzle. She moved soundly, keeping a level topline throughout. 2. Chapman & Ireland’s Ellemich Pure Passion This was a small, neat blenheim with good bone and substance. She has large dark eyes, long ear leathers, was well presented and she moved with drive.

YB (1,0A) 1. Welch’s Fennyfare Siren for Toraylac Mature blenheim with an almost flat skull, gentle expression and correct head shape. She is well constructed and moved soundly, though her handler needs to practise keeping her head up, as dropping it spoils her outline on the move.

NB (4,1a) 1. Chapman & Ireland’s Ellemich You Make Me Blush. Richly marked Blenheim of correct size; she is small and compact, with large dark round eyes, black pigment and a sweet expression. On the move she kept a level topline, though today she was a little proud of her tail. 2. Towse’s Arrowbien Audrey Hepburn at Miletree . This young bitch has a beautiful head with large dark eyes and strong black pigment, framed by long ear leathers. She carries a full blenheim coat and moved with drive, though she was not as good in profile as the first. 3. Lenihan’s Fennyfare Little Paris

GB (5,0a) 1. Cunningham’s Verheyen Valerie. This fifteen month old blenheim is beautifully balanced, with good reach of neck, correct layback of shoulder, a level topline and the correct length of leg. She has a beautiful head with an almost flat skull, long correctly set ear leathers, large dark round eyes and jet black pigment. She presents a lovely profile and moves with elegance. I was pleased to pull her out into the last four in the challenge. 2. Hamilton & Hogg’s Invincible Angel Magic Oak at Hamhoggs (Imp Pol) This was a heavier marked Blenheim with good conformation and who moved with drive, keeping a level topline. She has long ear leathers, large dark eyes and good pigment, though a little more fill under the eye would complete the picture. 3. Bloice’s Scotlass Roses in Bloom

Special Mid Limit Blenheim/Tricolour B (8,1a) 1. Rhodes’ Calonlan Sweet Dream. This was a richly marked blenheim who was small and compact, with good reach of neck and correct layback of shoulder. She had an attractive head with an almost flat skull, long ear leathers, dark round eyes and black pigment. She was well balanced and moved with drive. 2. Searle’s Stonepit Dominique . Well broken blenheim with dark eyes and black pigment who was soundly constructed and nicely balanced. She moved well but I preferred the flatter skull shape of 1st. 3.Colavecchia’s Carolus Camilla

Special Mid Limit B/t or Ruby B (3.1a) 1.Owen’s Hansowens Night Star . I judged this three year old B/T as a seven month old puppy and I’m pleased to see she has grown on into such a lovely girl. Her coat gleamed and her tan was richly coloured. She looked good when standing with an almost flat skull, dark eyes, strong pigment and a correct head shape. She moved soundly, keeping a level topline.. 2. Hazeltine’s Juzandia Relight My Fire. This ruby had a pretty head with lovely dark eyes and long ear leathers. She looked good in profile but tended to lose her topline on the move.

LB (8,1a) 1. Cox’s Emberlace Christina. This well marked blenheim was small and well balanced, with good reach of neck and correct layback of shoulder and she moved well, keeping a level topline. She had a gorgeous head with long ear leathers, an almost flat skull, dark round eyes and the correct length of muzzle. I liked her a great deal and was pleased to pull her out into the final four in the challenge. 2. Lovel’s Lovetrac Angelica This was another quality blenheim small and compact and who was well constructed and good for breed type. A close decision but I preferred the more shallow stop of first.3. Bennett’s Rishtte Tanisha of Remmya

OB (7,1a)  This class was full of quality, which made for some difficult decisions, as any of the first four could have taken the class. It was a pleasure to go over such lovely dogs; thank you for bringing them. 1. Waters’ Sweetbriar A Singer . This three year old, well broken blenheim was in top form today, her coat gleaming and richly marked. She had a pretty head framed by long ear leathers, with dark round eyes, black pigment, good dentition and a gentle expression. She was well constructed, enabling her to move soundly whilst keeping a level topline. In the challenge she stood out for her overall balance and shape. CC & RBIS 2. Tremain’s Bonitos Companeros First Class (Imp Deu) This heavier marked elegant blenheim pushed first all the way and had an almost flat skull, dark round eyes, shallow stop and gentle expression. She has good balance, reach of neck and a level topline which she kept on the move and was very attentive to her handler. I understand that she already has 2 CCs and she certainly deserves her crown but was unlucky to come across 1st in such good form RCC  3. Smith’s Ch Beaudale Little Bit Naughty
