Richmond Dog Show Society

Breed: Lancashire Heeler
13/09/2026 Richmond Championship Dog Show - Lancashire Heelers I would like to thank the Richmond Committee for inviting me to judge at short notice, at their very last show at Loseley Park. A special mention and thank you to my steward, Mark, who was very efficient in keeping the ring running smoothly. I would also like to thank all the exhibitors for entering and bringing your dogs. They were all presented in excellent condition, with good dentition and lovely temperaments. I felt very heartened to see such promising youngsters coming through, but was equally thrilled to see the seniors looking so fit and sprightly. My Best Dog and Best Bitch came from opposite ends of the spectrum, which says a great deal about the versatility of our breed. We mostly managed to avoid the forecast rain, just unlucky to see it arrive at the end. I hope you all enjoyed your day as much as I did. Veteran Dog (1,0) 1st. Whitemans, Ch Madincrowd Edred. What a lovely start to the day. I have judged this seven-year-old dog before, and he continues to belie his age. He just gets better and better as he matures. He has good width to his skull, the darkest of eyes which are well shaped, and a very gentle expression, with good ear set completing the picture. Very well muscled, although slightly long in loin. Good angulation both fore and aft gives him excellent movement, while maintaining a strong topline on the move. MPD (0,0) Puppy Dog (1,0) 1st. Fairest, Skipest Last Of The Mojitos. Well, what can I say? He may have stood alone, but what a stunner! This young ten-month-old puppy has all the physical maturity of a much older dog. He has a close-coupled, deep body with the most exquisite forechest. His angulation both fore and rear is superb, as is his topline. Although not always standing still — he is still learning — he always stands four-square when he does. Lovely to go over, with a super head shape, expressive eyes and ears all in proportion. Good on the move in all directions; I was captivated. Thrilled to award him the CC & BP. I am sure it will be the first of many in his future. Congratulations! Junior Dog (1,0) 1st. Grant-Parkes, Parabar Popgun’s Podolkhi. This 13-month-old has much to like. He has the most lovely head, with super dark, well-shaped eyes and good depth of muzzle. The whitest teeth I think I have ever seen; dentition was excellent. He still has a lot of maturing to do in body. I would like to see a little more forechest, but he has enough front angulation to give good movement in front. Slightly loose behind on the move, which will hopefully firm up as he matures. I found a good undercoat beneath his longer topcoat, which was a little soft in texture. Post Graduate Dog (2,0) 1st. Bingham & Musk, Kavalo Tougher Than The Rest. At 23 months, this was another youngster who impressed me with his maturity. Lovely head with well-shaped, dark eye and good ear placement, giving a very pleasing expression. Excellent bone and substance, with a very mature body shape. He has a good ribcage extending well back. Well muscled, with good angulation providing excellent movement. Slightly longer in coat than 2, but still harsh in texture. Another nice dog for the future. 2nd. Dawes, Ribblespride Don Pedro Of Daweslean. At 19 months old, this lovely young dog, with the sweetest of temperaments, still has some maturing to do. Although shorter in coupling than 1, his ribcage is still developing. A masculine expression on his lovely head, with good reach of neck. Well angulated; I would just like to see him firm up a little more in movement. He has plenty of time on his side. LD (0,0) Open Dog (4,0) What a lovely class! 1st. Webb, Foveaux Magic Dance. Just under two years old, this lovely dog catches the eye. From his excellent harsh coat with the deepest of tan, he has a presence that says, “Look at me.” Excellent head, lovely wide, flat skull, nicely shaped eyes and good length of muzzle. Well bodied for his age, with good rear angulation, he is all in proportion. To be picky, I would just like a little more forechest. Nevertheless, his movement was very good, holding his topline firmly on the move. Pleased to award him the RCC; I am sure it will not be long before he is a champion, if he is not already. 2nd. Grant-Parkes, Parabar Puzzling Piper. Unlucky to meet 1 today, as I liked him a lot. Slightly longer in loin, but so well off for bone and substance. The widest of heads, another young dog just over two years old with so much maturity. Very masculine, with a good, strong neck and excellent reach into well-laid shoulders. Good movement in all directions. Slightly soft in coat. 3rd. Leyeside Mister Wilds At Dawslean. Res. Parabar Puzzling Pilot. Veteran Bitch (1,0) 1st. Thwaite, Ch Ribblespride Ladytron. Twice I had to ask her age — she is nine years old! She neither looks it nor acts like it, though. This beautiful bitch is so fit and well muscled, which shows in her carriage and in the way she moved around the ring effortlessly. A quality girl deserving of her champion title, she is so feminine, with the loveliest head and expression. Although not the biggest, she is well bodied, with a good spring of rib and close coupling. Tight elbows against her body, and very good front and rear angulation, give her a super outline and the firmest of toplines. Another who stood four-square at all times and richly deserved her CC and BOB & BV. MPB (0,0) PB (0,0) JB (0,0) Post Graduate Bitch (5,1) 1st. Budd, Parabar Primrosa. A five-year-old, very feminine liver bitch of pleasing proportions. She has a lovely, wide, wedge-shaped skull, excellent eye shape and good depth of muzzle. A very good forechest and shoulder placement, she is deep in body with a good spring of rib. Closely coupled, with good rear angulation, she is good on the move in all directions. Just occasionally she sinks as she stands, losing her usually level topline. 2nd. Felstead, Oreiphos Ease My Heart. This 18-month-old feminine girl is a very different type to 1. She has some maturing to do in body still and is slightly longer in loin; however, she has the height, so should mature nicely when she does. She has a very nice head and expression, with good eye and ear placement. Although she only has eyes for her handler, she has just enough cheekiness to show herself off to her best. Loved her personality. 3rd. Kavalo Glory Days. Res. Foxthyme Miss Demeanor. VHC. Parabar Pelatory’s Pichu. Limit Bitch (6,1) 1st. Bellinger, Foveaux Jean Genie At Heelstone. Nearly two years old, this bitch took my eye. She is well up to size but still feminine throughout, with a lovely head and expression. Deep bodied, with a good forechest and well-placed shoulders, with elbows tight to her body. Fabulous rear angulation, which she uses to good effect, powering around the ring with purpose. Pleased to award her the RCC. I feel she is on the brink of gaining her title and hope to see her accomplish that soon. Unlucky to meet the veteran on the day. 2nd. Budd, Tudorbrook Hocus Pocus. This five-year-old bitch is really lovely for type. She has a super head, with the darkest of eyes and gentlest expression. Good reach of neck, lovely front with tight elbows. Well ribbed, with short coupling. She moved well and looked a picture in outline. Just not quite the presence of 1 today. 3rd. Tudorbrook Morgana At Ribblespride. Res. Foxthyme Miss Demeanour. VHC. Parabar Pelatory’s Pichu. Open Bitch (3,1) 1st. Lawrence, Foveaux China Girl. Litter sister to the winner of Limit, but smaller throughout in stature. Nevertheless, she is well boned and has ample substance. Feminine head, beautiful eye shape and ear set, with good depth of muzzle giving her the prettiest expression. I feel she has a little more maturing to do in body, but she has it all there and it will come. Could have a slightly firmer topline when standing, but like her sister, she moves very well in all directions. Harshest coat of the day. 2nd. Budd, Kavalo Dancing In The Dark. Another youngster who, with time and maturity, should do well. She has the sweetest nature; she just did not want to play ball today. Another with a good, harsh coat in gleaming condition. Good bone and substance, with super forechest and good angulation both front and rear. Lovely dark eye, but did not want to use her ears. Moved well in all directions. Judge: Elaine Syrett
