RICHMOND CHAMPIONSHIP DOG SHOW 2026

MINIATURE PINSCHER

! would like to thank Richmond and the exhibitors for entrusting me with their dogs today. Before the show, it was pointed out to me via email that the entry was relatively small. This was information I chose to ignore, and I am glad I did; while small in numbers, the entry was absolutely full of depth and quality.

I fully understand that this venue can be difficult for exhibitors to travel to, and with the show falling on a Friday, navigating the M25 is understandably not desirable to most. I am therefore incredibly grateful to everyone who made the journey. The standard of the exhibits was excellent; in several classes, I truly was splitting hairs and genuinely wished I could have awarded joint first places. Thank you for a wonderful day of judging.

VETERAN DOG (1,0ABS)

1st Parker’s Ch Vardenais Lumos JW. 9 ½ years Red, I have judged this lad before and he is like a fine wine, as he matures he just seems to get better! A thoroughly elegant, sturdy gentleman with a clean head and flat skull, delightful alert expression, he has a graceful slightly arched neck which flowed into seamlessly into a clean shoulder and a correct firm topline. He still moves very well with drive and purpose, well presented in excellent condition, BVIB,

MINOR PUPPY DOG (0,0ABS)

PUPPY DOG (2,0 abs)

1st Watkins & Bugden’s Hawksflight That’ll Do. A very promising and eye catching boy, he is well balanced and square and showing excellent balance and bone for his age. Pleasing head with dark sparkling eyes and correct bite, Clean throatless neck and moved with a steady level topline. A naturally spirited puppy who displayed a beautiful, high-stepping hackney action on the go-around. One with a bright future.

2nd McLoughlin’s Krieger’s Oor Bryan. A very smart, well-proportioned red dog standing slightly taller than the winner but packed with breed type. He possesses a lovely, clean head with an excellent, high earset and a keen expression. Stands on beautifully tight, cat-like feet and displays lovely dark pigment. A highly elegant exhibit I just preferred the firmer, more precise topline of the 1st place winner on the move today. Nonetheless, a high-quality dog with great animation.

JUNIOR DOG (1,0ABS)

1st Watkins, Bevis & Bugden Hawksflight Too Darn Hot. A top-quality black & tan who caught my eye immediately. He possesses a beautiful, elongated head with a lovely dark, keen eye and an excellent, high earset giving the quintessential alert expression. A highly elegant, well-proportioned body showing a lovely, short-coupled silhouette. Cleanly and sharply marked with rich tan, and crucially, showing no breeching to the rear legs. On the move, he tracked cleanly and displayed a beautiful, precise hackney gait with super presence. Beautifully handled to showcase his constant animation. I was pleased to award him the RCC.

OPEN DOG (2,0ABS)

1st Coull’s Vardenais Hot As Hell JW. Red. I judged this boy when he was a puppy, I loved him then and gosh, he has matured into a magnificent specimen. He possesses a beautiful, clean, elongated head with a lovely dark, sparkling eye that yields a wonderfully keen, mischievous expression. Short-coupled and beautifully balanced, he boasts a super neck flowing seamlessly into an excellent lay of shoulder, giving him a pristine, elegant silhouette. Stands on exceptionally tight, compact cat feet. On the move, he was a standout, exhibiting a precise, high-stepping hackney gait combined with powerful rear drive while holding a perfect topline. It was an absolute honour to award him the CC and BOB.

2nd Scourfield’s Ch Pernickety Make Your Mark at Danton. A beautiful red exhibit of high quality. He possesses a lovely, clean head with a nice dark eye and excellent expression. Short-coupled and well-balanced, standing on tight, compact cat feet with a strong, correct topline both standing and on the move. Moved around the ring with great style and animation. I really was splitting hairs in this class; it came down to minor details, and I just preferred the precision of the rear movement of the 1st place winner today. A super dog who pushed the winner incredibly hard.

VETERAN BITCH (0,0ABS)

MINOR PUPPY BITCH (0,0ABS)

PUPPY BITCH (2,1ABS)

1st Bevis,Corr,Venezia&Mackie. Hawksflight That’s a Wrap at Stecal.

A very promising 9-month-old red who shows loads of potential. She possesses a lovely, clean head with an alert expression, a well-shaped, balanced body, and excellent dark pigment throughout. Still very much a baby, which showed slightly on the move today; while she has a super side profile, I would prefer a slightly tighter movement as /she was moving a little close behind. However, this is entirely typical for a puppy of this age. A lovely prospect who will surely mature well. BCC & BPIB.

JUNIOR BITCH (1,0ABS)

1st Mackie & Preddy’s Hawksflight Race The Stars. A gorgeous black & tan exhibit of high quality. She possesses a lovely, clean head with a dark eye and excellent earset, yielding a very keen and alert expression. She features a lovely shaped, well-proportioned body and stands on neat, tight cat feet. While she could have done with a little more enthusiasm on the move today, she still moved accurately and showed herself off to her best advantage when standing, presenting a beautiful, elegant outline. RBCC

YEARLING BITCH (1,0ABS)

1st Cherry’s Danton Firefly at Shanandi A red exhibit with a very pretty head, lovely dark eye, and good earset giving an alert expression. She features a well-shaped, balanced body and stands on good, neat feet. She was carrying a little excess weight today which affected her overall condition slightly, but she still moved OK. This was particularly commendable considering she had a sudden change of handler in the ring, which she coped with very settledly. A nice type.

POST GRADUATE BITCH (0,0abs)

LIMIT BITCH (0,0ABS)

OPEN BITCH (2,0ABS)

1st Coull’s Vardenais Petite Noir A black & tan exhibit of high merit. She has a super head and high earset, though I would just prefer a tad darker eye to complete the expression. Features a well-shaped body with an excellent lay of shoulder and good, neat feet. When settled, she moved excellently, showcasing a beautiful, precise hackney motion. Unfortunately, something in the ring environment must have spooked her as the class progressed, causing her to lose her sparkle and confidence. It was such a shame as I really liked her and her quality is undeniable.

2nd Colborne-Baber’s Ch Danton Buttercup at Borneways (JW) A red exhibit with a lovely head, dark eye, and beautiful expression complemented by a good earset. She stands on neat, compact cat feet and moved out OK. However, she really wasn’t showing to her best advantage today, as she was persistently dropping her tail, which unfortunately spoilt her overall outline. Having judged her before, I know she is capable of showing much better than she did on this occasion, but her fundamental breed type remains clear.
