Scottish Kennel Club

Breed: Tibetan Mastiff

SKC – General Championship Show – 14/05/2026

I would like to thank the Scottish Kennel Club Committee for inviting me to judge this majestic breed at my first Championship Show appointment; an experience I thoroughly enjoyed. It was a well-run double show with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere throughout.

My steward was excellent - approachable, well organised, and kept everything running smoothly despite working single-handedly.

Post Graduate Dog (1, 0)

1st – Nicoll – Bobby Digital – A dog of smaller stature and substance, but still in proportion. Broad head, with marked stop. Correctly sized blunt muzzle with well opened nostrils. Expressive, oval eyes of medium size. Substantial shoulders, with good back and firm topline. Deep, broad chest with well sprung ribs. Agile in movement for a large dog and shown to best advantage by his handler. Good feathering on tail and hindlegs. Could be more up on his toes to improve overall outline and would benefit from a stronger rear. A dog boasting a calm and patient temperament. Reserve Best Dog.

Open Dog (5, 3)

1st – Roberts – CH Callowdale Tenzin Nyima – A good example of the size, stature and nature of a dog of true Tibetan Mastiff type, presenting the trademark noble and dignified look. This black dog demanded attention in the ring and looked to enjoy every minute in there with his handler. Broad, strong head with a well-defined occiput and stop. Fairly broad muzzle, blunt and square from all sides. Very expressive eyes with close-fitting rims. Powerful jaws with correct scissor bite. Well-laid shoulders and good bone throughout. Excellent straight front and a deep chest. Maintained a strong back and topline standing and on the move. In good coat, with an impressive mane and well feathered hindlegs. Moved freely and powerfully in profile, though notably not as strong in the rear on the up and down. Fantastic temperament, a joy to go over with undeniable ring presence. A pleasure to award Best Dog and Best of Breed.

2nd – Nicoll – Method Man – I have judged this dog previously and was impressed with his movement for a dog of his size; he did not disappoint in that respect today either. However, he was not exhibiting the same level of breed type as my winner here. Broad, heavy head with a defined stop. Good pigmentation of nose, with well opened nostrils. Would have liked a more correct scissor bite. Heavy in mane with a well feathered tail. A touch longer than ideal and would benefit from stronger pasterns and tighter feet. Well-muscled shoulders and second thigh enabling him to move with power and agility. Independently minded and aloof.
