Bournemouth championship Dog show Sunday 09/08/2026
Judge: David Smith, Breed: German Shorthaired Pointers
Firstly, I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge at this show. Bournemouth is a special show for me as I won my first CC in GSP’s here, and the following year I made up my first show champion Thank you also to my y stewards who were very organised and made my judging so much easier and efficient. I had broken fingers so was struggling to write anything, so they helped in this regard too.
Secondly, I would like to thank the people that bought their dogs for me to access., I try to be as honest as possible, based on what I see on the day, and I am guided by the breed standard and from the experienced mentors I have had over the years. I feel it is important to maintain type although I feel this seems to be changing considerably even since my last appointment. I was fortunate to have dogs here today that really portray the outline that in my opinion fits the standard well. Showing for me should be about type and what is good for the breed moving forward.

1st: 3504 ELLIOTT, Mrs Lorraine & ELLIOTT, mr Finlay & ELLIO Ankerwycke D'artagnan (ai), he is such a baby and at his first show, in outline he is very typical for type. He has a super reach to neck leading into excellent lay of shoulder, I would like a little more length to upper arm, but his return is good. Short back and slightly sloping croup to well set tail. His jacket is excellent and he stands on super bone and feet. He should have a bright future and moved with precision and good foot placement. He drove well from behind and carried his topline very well. BP

1st: 3501 DANDO, Mrs Angie Pruso Blues N' Twos, this dog is a very honest young man. In profile is very true to type and still his best is to come. He is short in back and again has the slight slope to croup to create the typical shortie outline. Pleasing in head with eye starting to darken. Good ear set and creates that soft biddable expression. He has the correct length to skull and muzzle length with the slight roman nose. Good neck into well placed shoulders with superb return and length to his upper arm. He is short in loin with good depth to rib without too much tuck up. He is very balanced dog which for me shows quality but has enough bone and substance to do his job. He moves true and has an economic effortless gait. RDCC
Class 1762 PGD (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 3515 PRIOR, Mrs Velda Simone Alger Desjiem Starman Of Whinchat (ai), This young man is no where near finished yet and can give his handler a hard time but for me stood out today. For type he is a picture of an honest GSP. His head is just a picture from all angles with excellent back skull which I feel is lacking in the breed. His eyes are dark already and of correct shape, his roman nose and working in his head creates such a soft and welcoming expression. He is short in back and maybe a little longer in loin than I would like, but don’t think this spoils his outline as he is a rangier dog. His front is superb with excellent lay of shoulder not at all broad through the shoulder blades and has excellent length and return to upper arm. When he relaxes in the stack, he looks a picture and when he moves you really see him come together. His stride is effortless and efficient, and he is so clean coming and going. DCC
Class 1763 LD (2 Entries) Abs: 0
2 very different dogs in this class but both have breed specific qualities.
1st: 3502 DESOMBRE, Professor Terry Braneath Peregrine, I just preferred this dog for type in outline and another that gives his handler a hard time, when he relaxes, he makes a much better shape and his topline drops into place. His head is ok and he has a nice dark eye. Good neck into ok shoulders and he is short backed with an excellent crisp coat. For me set up he made a more typical outline and stands on super feet. He moved out so much better once relaxed and was tidy coming and going.
2nd: 3508 MAPES, Mrs Sally & MAPES, Mr Antony Agdenusher Mulberry, for me just lacked the overall quality throughout of one, more of a workman like dog. He is strong through neck with an excellent return of upper arm. Stands on super bone and good feet. He moves very well with a fluid stride that is effortless. He can go a little wide behind and didn’t converge as well as 1. He was presented in super muscle tone and condition.
Class 1764 OD (3 Entries) Abs: 1
2 completely different dogs in the class
1st: 3519 SERPA, Mrs G & GRAHAM, Mrs J Winterwell Tubby Tompkin From Nyliram JW, this dog is more of the type I prefer and set up is a typical little brown GSP dog. His angles fore and after are well balanced. His head is very nice and has a super expression. From the front he is a little loaded through shoulder. He is short backed and stands over plenty of ground. His muscle tone behind and depth through second thigh is superb. He is super short coupled in loin and so well balanced throughout. He moves well but does tends to pick his hocks up to high causing a kicking up affect. His footfall fore and after is superb.
2nd: 3517 RUSSELL, Mrs Lynda & RUSSELL, Miss Hayley Fraulynzway Lightning Bolt Jw a bigger heavier dog than 1 and in my opinion doesn’t make the picture of one set up. He does have some excellent qualities one of which is his coat which is presented in super course condition and just gleams. His movement is very fluid in profile, and he glides effortlessly with his footfall coming and going excellent. His second thigh is also superb with width lacking in the breed. He was so well handled and at one with his owner.

Class 1766 SBD/B (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 3507 HAYDON, Mrs Kirsty Rookcross Elanor, more my type in make and shape and had the better coat of the 2. Feminine throughout and short backed creating a pleasing outline. I personally would like more turn of stifle and a shorter hock. Super feet and ok front angles. Moved ok
2nd: 3499 ATKINS, Miss Alicia No More Cloudy Days, preferred this young ladies head and rear construction. Coat a little soft. She stands on nice bone and feet and remains feminine throughout. Good length of neck leading into ok shoulders. Moved ok
Class 1767 VB (4 Entries) Abs: 1
Lovely lineup of older ladies and doing the breed proud for longevity, still all fit for purpose
1st: 3509 MCILWAINE, Mr & Mrs A & V Winterwell Steppin Stones To Benoveor, this lady won out on her precise effortless movement. She is nice for type, short backed and in excellent muscle condition. Her head is feminine and has a dark enough eye. Strong neck and good shoulder placement. BV and Vet Group 4
2nd: 3522 THOMAS, Mrs J & THOMAS, Dr C & TAYLOR, Mrs C Knabynnus Aurora Borealis VW, this dog really does belittle her years and is still in superb condition. She is so well handled producing the best out of her. Set up creates a lovely balanced picture from her feminine head clean front short back and well-muscled hind quarters. She is slowing down on the move now and certainly not helped by the heat today. She gave the younger ladies a real push.

1st: 3518 SERPA, Mrs G Winterwell Starry Night At Mylanuka (a.i.) JW, really typey solid liver young lady who gave a good account of herself. She is so balanced set up with a really pleasing outline. She has a nice feminine head and eye just starting to darken. Strong arched neck leading into excellent shoulder placement with good length and return of upper arm. She stands on good bone and feet and is presented in excellent condition. On the move she is fluid and precise. One to watch for the future.
2nd: 3506 FILBY, Ms A Brown & Mr C Desjiem Rebel Rebel (ai) Jw, this young bitch is going through a growth spurt now but has some super qualities. Her head is lovely and she has a lovely dark eye with super expression. Her neck is strong and well arched leading into superb shoulder placement with excellent length and return to upper arm. She needs weight on her as she looks hollowed out through the loin right now, but I feel maturity will help this. Her coat is of the correct texture and is in gleaming condition. She is super sound on the move and is effortless in side profile.
3rd: 3520 SMITH, Mrs Lynda Margaret & SMITH, MR DAVID JOHN Rookcross Rosie Cotton At Abbeyaire
Class 1772 LB (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 3523 WARRINGTON, Mrs Sue Eileen Zakova Aria, Nice type of girl who is feminine throughout, stacked up I would like her a little shorter in back and less angulation behind. Firm topline with correct croup and tail set correct. Lovely bone and substance and remain’s feminine throughout. She moves very well in profile and is tidy enough coming and going.
2nd: 3521 TAYLOR, Mrs C A & TAYLOR, MR C & THOMAS, MRS J & T Pingarypoint Puzzled At Knabynnus, another nice girl who is feminine throughout. Just preferred substance of 1 and her side gait movement today. She is presented in excellent muscle tone and condition. Her neck into shoulders is so clean and her elbows well tucked in. Her front angles are excellent. She moved precisely and clean coming and going.
Class 1773 OB (6 Entries) Abs: 0
What an absolute superb class of quality gsp’s this was, probably the best line of bitches I have had the pleasure to judge. All of them in my opinion could and should win top honours.
1st: 3497 ADAMS, Mrs Claire Louise & ADAMS, Mr Karl Sh Ch Keigame Mystique Aurora JW, in my opinion this young lady is just a bit special and so typical of the breed. This girl was just what I was looking for today. A neat tidy package with nothing overdone. When I started in this breed this is just what they were like. From every angle she screams type and quality. Short in back with excellent angles fore and after. Clean over her front. Her head is beautiful with a dark eye, roman bump, nose like looking down the barrel of a shot gun. She has substance but remains feminine. Her arched neck leading into the cleanest of shoulders. Topline solid and correct tail set. She moves economically and converges coming and going. BCC BOB
2nd: 3500 BUNKER, Miss Kathryn Sh Ch It Ch Winterwell Little Itch At Karitagan, another I have admired from the ring side for some time, and it was a pleasure to finally get hands on her. She is handled so well and at one with her handler. She has super substance and stands fore square on the best feet. Wow, she is tight in condition with super muscle tone and excellent coat texture. This girl would do a day’s work and then some. She has a lovely expression with a dark eye and excellent head working. I would like a slightly smaller ear. She is short in back with a strong loin. Good angulation fore and after and moves very well, Fluid precise movement. I preferred the topline of one on the move. RBCC
